Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: susu Date: 20 Jun 05 - 12:55 AM Okay, I have been called out, and rightly so, but let me say this... Carol tends to come across to me as someone who sends invites to her pity party and then can't understand why no one RSVP's. I think if you are going to get indignant on behalf of others, then at least help the newbies to understand you are being altruistic (that means unselfish in case you don't know what that means CarolC) Now that being said, I didn't post for a couple of days because everytime I tried, my computer stated that "the page could not be displayed", so when I was finally able to post it I guess 3 days went by, I didn't realize there was a time limit on when you could respond to some elses post on here, guess I still have much to learn about 'Cat' etiquette. I could sit here and tell everyone about all the tragedies I have had in MY life but I don't air that kind of stuff to prove a point. Suffice it to say that I have had MANY, some of which are too gruesome for you people to imagine. I try to take each experience and turn it into something positive. But I digress, I DO NOT think that it is okay for someone to make fun of people in the manner in which you discribed CarolC, and (not that you would believe it) my heart goes out to WS for his loss. But hey it doesn't matter, according to some Hubby and I are not real anyway so who cares right? Susu |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: GUEST,Wesley S Date: 19 Jun 05 - 08:59 PM No - Clinton - I don't think that "Everything can be laughed at". I don't think the death of a five day old baby is funny. And since it was MY five day old son - Patrick Tate Smith - born on December 13th at five pounds 10 ounces- that was the subject of the joke I fail to see the humor in it. I find it interesting that you do. So here's something you can laugh at. If I ever get the chance to meet Martin Gibson in person I will give him a poke in the nose and a broken finger on his left hand. And since you find all of this halarious I promise the same treatment for you too. Now most of you reading this may think that I have just made a threat of bodily harm. I HAVE NOT. Only those of you with a highly developed sense of humor like Clinton will realize that I'm only talking about "Three Stooges" type slapstick. You know - the funny "HAHA" jokes when no one really gets hurt. The pie in the face type stuff. Clinton knows what I mean. Because Clinton knows that EVERYTHING is fodder for a joke. Jeez - I'm laughing so hard I can hardly stand it. Clinton - I'll bet you are too. No offense intended - I didn't mean it. This has all been a big joke. |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: GUEST Date: 19 Jun 05 - 08:08 PM The point is, Clinton, if you tell us what is causing you pain; we can then ridicule your suffering on the world-wide web. Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: CarolC Date: 19 Jun 05 - 11:38 AM Maggie, shut up and mind your own business. Susu, first of all, I would like to point out the fact that I STOPPED posting to this thread THREE DAYS ago. YOU are the one who brought it back to life. Secondly, I was not talking about myself when I said what I did about what "MG" did to the person who experienced the death of a child. Here's what happened. A Mudcatter, one for whom I have a tremendous amount of respect as a human being and as a good man said the following to "Martin Gibson"... On December 18th of 2000 my wife and I held my 5 day old son in my arms while the nurses disconnected him from the life support "miracles" that kept him alive. And I felt no guilt. Six weeks later I watched my Mother die of a brain tumor. I was relieved that she had effective paperwork in place so that the doctor and nurses wouldn't keep her alive beyond the hour that God called her home. I pray you never have the same experiences. I really do pray for you Martin. Because when that time comes you won't be looking for curse words. You'll find a dark quiet corner and try to be alone with your God and your soul and you'll pray - "Dear God - take my loved one now. Don't let them suffer another minute." Trust me Martin - that's what you'll do. "Martin's" response was, "Maybe you should have taken less drugs". Another Mudcatter, a lifelong professional musician who is well loved by many, who has Multiple Sclerosis, is no longer able to do the thing he loves most... play music, and who is able to find some solace from all of this by talking about music here in the Mudct with like-minded people, was being taunted by "Martin Gibson", who was making fun of the fact that this Mudcatter's Multiple Sclerosis was preventing him from being able to play music. This, along with some other kinds of non-specific abuse. There is a Mudcatter who uses a wheelchair because he does not have very good use of his legs due to polio when he was younger. This Mudcatter is a very capable person who has had many fine accomplishments in his life. "Martin Gibson" made fun of this Mudcatter many times by making references to his being incontinent (not able to urinate on his own, in case you don't know what "incontinent" means). Now this Mudcatter is not incontinent, but even if he were, being incontinent due to paralysis is not something people ought to be making fun of (or do you disagree?). NOW... maybe you can just sit back and laugh along with "Martin Gibson", or maybe just not bother to do anything about it while others laugh. I chose not to do this. I chose to stand up to that kind of cruelty. I have no regrets. |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Jun 05 - 12:57 AM Susu, I haven't bothered to read your post, just to note that you were the one who walked back into this fireworks stand carring a lit match. Let this stupid thread drop off of the page, will you! All of you! You're eating yourselves alive in here. |
Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: susu Date: 19 Jun 05 - 12:07 AM CarolC posted: "You have never experienced the death of a child, nor do you have any obvious physical handicaps or long-term life threatening illnesses. In fact, from what I saw when I met you, you looked to be one very fortunate individual. So I wouldn't expect you do know how it feels to be in the shoes of the people he did hurt." Good God WOMAN! WE HAVE ALL HAD TRAGEDIES IN OUR LIVES! That is life. So sad that you get offended so easily, especially if you KNOW that someone is trying to get a rise out of you. Maybe it is just your pathetic way of getting attention. As we say in Texas, BLESS YOUR HEART! Then you post... "GUEST, bleachers, I don't think it's productive to automatically assume someone is trolling just because they have flamed me a few times. Maybe Clinton is genuinely angry with me. Maybe he's just an asshole. Who knows? But maybe he really is trolling. So I have to give him a chance to show me what he is really doing before I determine that he is trolling. And then once I have done that, I can adjust my posts accordingly. It's pretty obvious to me at this point that he is trolling (or maybe he's just an asshole). Either way, I have been ignoring him since my last post to him on 16 Jun 05 - 04:00 PM (that was yesterday afternoon)." So let me get this straight...you can ignore Clinton but MG you can't? As for this comment to Hubby... "One of the few exceptions to that is my argument with Joe on this thread, which is none of your business. I have met Joe, more than once, in person, I have played music with him, and until this thread, I counted him as a friend." Why did you feel it necessary to state, "which is none of your business" do you think that adds more weight to your comment? Do you think anyone really cares? Evidently you chose to make it his business. So I suggest that you get some consistency and either always post to those who offend you or ignore them, but either way… QUIT WHINING! IT IS GETTING OLD! I don't care if you have been a member for several years, whereas Hubby and I have been here for a couple of months, BIG DEAL! Susu P.S. Say whatever vile thing you can come up with, I promise I won't get offended. |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: robomatic Date: 17 Jun 05 - 10:38 PM Gibson was not the source of 'a lot' of problems on the 'cat. He was an illustrator of those problems. Originally, before some of his truly atrocious personal references, I took him to be a sort of self-elected Lenny Bruce. His vituperation lost some of their pungency due to the readiness and, excuse the word, liberal application of his blather on all and sundry. It was reminiscent of a National Lampoon column where the supposedly witty host is replaced with Tourette's sufferers. MG was not entirely without logical thought. Indeed, he originated several threads with cogent quotations. However, he was often a fomenter and he wrote some mean nasty stuff directed at people he didn't agree with, and he interjected low-blow comments that were usually devoid of meaningful content that would advance the thread. Nevertheless, the truth that has often been stated in those threads, and occasionally mentioned in this one, is that all one had to do was ignore him and the others of his ilk, and move on. In other words, MG offered mudcatters the opportunity to prove they were better than him. An opportunity they did not take. The incredible size of this thread seals the deal. I recently re-watched "Life of Brian" and nothing rings truer to this moment than the disciples sitting around a table debating their call to take action as Brian is being crucified. Nothing can get 'em away from the table as they debate the need to anser a call to action. This thread shows that MG was not the problem, he was a mirror of the problem. |

Subject: RE: BS: For Real. I quit From: Ron Davies Date: 17 Jun 05 - 09:07 PM "Gibson" was the source of a lot of problems while he was here, and there were 3 items he was responsible for, which I have noted earlier and which are completely inexcusable. Any one of them should have caused his expulsion. There is now, as you should know--it's no mystery-- a strong difference of opinion on how to deal, not with trolls in general, but with a member who is in fact just a glorified troll. Again, I think everybody realizes the way to deal with trolls in general is to ignore them but a Mudcat member who turns out to be a troll needs different treatment, in my view. Your mileage may vary. Jeri-- "Making excuses"--not likely. Try not to read into a post more than is there. "Gibson" always had more than enough sparring partners,-- by no means just 'Catters--including during the month-plus that I was not one (not to mention the time before I started posting). By the way, I do not apologize in the least for defending myself (with sarcasm), nor does anybody else need to apologize for standing up to him. In fact I got kudos from some 'Catters for standing up to him, while not joining him in the gutter. He should have been banned. We cannot ban anybody. Joe can. It's also patently absurd to say that if "Gibson" were banned, everybody would be banned. In fact, it might have a salutary effect on some others (obviously not aimed at you). And it may be needed again. As you should know, he was all over the 'Cat. There is no reason to let sociopaths rule, even on the wild wild Net. |
