Dont forget the map provided by someone before. Grange Road for the Friday Night, Gillabbey Street for Saturday afternoon. Now that we have only about 6-8 people, the function room I had in mind for the Saturday night is a bit too big, so I'll go and find a quiet pub for that evening.

Andy - it's quite a stressful bike-ride from Sheila's (crossing ringroad and the like). I will have to work late on Friday (it's exam time here), so we could drive from a certain point at about 9. Phoning is fine, but after 6 as I will be invigilating before, and so cannot answer any calls.

I have just regained my throne at Lard Hall, and small-scale it may have been (the Eurogathering, not the throne), but it was still extremely enjoyable, especially 'relaxing' on that feminine inflatable vibrating thing in Kinsale.

I'm back and my rucksack will be back soon I heard (40 minutes change time in Amsterdam was too short for it).

It was small but a great gathering fot the listeners like me. I fell in love again as usual on Mudcat gatherings and with a new one as usual. This time it was 'The Contender' when I heard it sung Friday evening by one of the locals.

Friday was a very good session. The level of playing was so that noone was afraid to join and it was a mixture of tune playing and songs. The two Sunday sessions were very different in style. One was diddle di music only at a very high level of skill (locals and Doug) with all instruments you can think of. The evening was a fascinating singers' club night in a very friendly and inviting atmosphere. From very traditional to Joni Mitchell, and to storytelling. Only condition: No other instrument but the human voice.

Monday was travel time. The lucky ones like Andy (Mudguard) were cycling in pouring rain to start an Ireland cycle tour, the less lucky ones (me, in this particular instance) were overtaking Andy by bus on the way home. (When you read this, Andy; I've actually seen you from the bus to Kinsale, where I made a short trip to instead of Cobh; I did wave but in that weather you couldn't possibly see into a bus even if you had felt like).

The next gathering will be in or close to a town starting with M. Offers are still accepted. So far, and in this order of preference the towns named are: Milano, Munich, Muenster.

It was great to see you.

As others have said, a Eurogathering that was small, but perfectly formed, which managed to pack in the maximum of music, cultural activity and friendship.

The people of Cork that I met in the music and singing sessions, and in my B&B were most welcoming and hospitable. I even managed to get a song in at the Cork Singers Club on Sunday evening.

As well as being able to participate in the sessions, we were able to take in a very good blues band on the Saturday evening and a bit of blue grass prior to the singing session on Sunday.

On the cultural side, I manage to kiss the Blarney Stone and I found out on the tour of the Jameson Distillery, much to my surprise, that I actually like Irish whiskey. It was great fun tearing round on a speed boat with Skipjack giving me the full low-down on the racing yachts we were passing, using lots of nautical terms of which the only one I understood was "boat".

My journey home took a route through the Wicklow mountains which showed the Irish countryside at its most beautiful, particularly with the gorse in full flower. Got back home a couple of hours ago after a mill-pond ferry trip across the Irish Sea.

Those who couldn't make it this year really did miss out. It was great to see everyone that did attend, and thanks Letty for organising it.

Ah well, back to work tomorrow.

Hello, Cork is great (as I've already said) and it was fantastic toi see everybody again. Two good things happened to me in addition to all the other good stuff. One was that I started playing the fiddle again after a looooong break, and I'm going to keep going at it, and the other is that I got to be a whiskey taster at the Jameson distillery, so yet again at a Eurogathering I have received a certificate to hang on my bathroom wall alongside my Mudcat PhD Certificate and my letter from Bristol City Council banning me from swimming pools for two weeks because I had cryptosporidiosis.

Thanks Letty, it was magic! It ended on a high as well as we stuffed ourselves full of rhubarb tart at Blarney. Thanks to Skipjack too - I wouldn't have got there without him and his unique style of driving.

Oh, and When I got back and asked The Boy what he would have done if I'd brought a lovely collie called Meggie back, he said he probably would have gotten over it. Damn!! Still, I suppose it wouldn't have been the most practical of pets to move to London with.

Be kind to the collie Fibs and don't go for it. Collies are too intelligent and too active a breed to live in towns. Honestly they can have the canine equivalent of a nervous breakdown if they lead purposeless lives. They need sheep or kids or something the herd, chase, and worry about, otherwise their purpose in life is gone, and they decline.
I'm glad you all had a good time in Cork, and I wish I could have been there, always wanted to go to Cork, and Cobh, and the like.
Next year I shall be with youse all again, once you make up your mind where you want to hold it.

But the chances are better for next year. I am now drilling the drummers of a rural marching band in reading notes and beating them the right way. The pay is not so bad, and I hope to save my bit for next year.

That made me howl, Andy, as it is stage I and 2 of the 'Harmonzing the Single European Language' email that did the rounds a couple of years ago.

Wilfried, you were missed. I hope you have a Hohner accordion in the band. They are ideal for stamping up and down parade grounds.

Just a brief update. I have sown the seed for our next Eurogathering with my friends in Cassano D'Adda, east of Milan, and the guarded response wasn't negative, so hopefully it'll be a runner. If it runs, Bergamo Airport is the closest, or Venice if you are coming on the Orient Express.
