Subject: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Letty Date: 16 Sep 05 - 03:09 PM Hello people, This is an early notice for the next Eurogathering, for all those people who like to book flightes and ferries early. Or who just like to know that I am indeed still alive (yes, I am, but barely as in last year of PhD, will definitely need the distraction!). Having missed the gathering in la belle France, I'm making sure I won't have to miss the next by being the organiser!

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: skarpi Date: 16 Sep 05 - 05:18 PM Letty , I am coming to Cork, I am gonna get fly ticket when I am back from the Us, in October and I am hoping my band is coming " Our Rose " . Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: MudGuard Date: 16 Sep 05 - 05:35 PM I intend to come (if I can find the money ...). Can I book floorspace? |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Doug Chadwick Date: 16 Sep 05 - 06:39 PM If it's Cork City, then presumably camping is not an option. What alternatives will be available for accommodation? DC |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Susanne (skw) Date: 17 Sep 05 - 05:13 AM Letty, glad to hear you are well and indeed keeping your promise! I'd love to come but just now it is doubtful whether I'll be able to get away on holiday at all next year. Mark me 'maybe', please. (And if I come I'd need to book floorspace somewhere too, not bringing the car.) |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Letty Date: 17 Sep 05 - 05:28 AM As I am in shared accommodation, floor space is highly limited. I will let you know in a while, as I have to ask my roomie for permission. A few other options:
I think hostels are the cheap option, esp. as they are mainly in the city centre. If you have to rely on buses, you might find yourself in trouble, as public transport is notoriously unreliable here.

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Wolfgang Date: 17 Sep 05 - 03:53 PM Skarpi, that's a pleasant surprise. The year after next year we could opt for Greece and see if you come over for the weekend. Iceland is a fascinating idea too, but as Greece a bit far for a weekend. Most probably I'll come to Cork. I only can say for sure in the second half of October when I know my summer semester time table. I think I'll take a B&B. Letty, where (which part of Cork) will the action be? So that I can opt for a B&B at walking (crawling) distance. Wolfgang (whose last visit to Cork was in 1968) |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 19 Sep 05 - 04:23 AM Hi Letty, what a pleasant surprise in autumn! I'm in the same situation like MudGuard, but I hope I can rise the money. Floorspace would be preferable, otherwise I'd go to a hostel (especially after the wonderful experience in Groningen - reaaly fine). So count me in with a very small question mark. And how clever you managed it with the date! Finally a year where I don't have to moo some good wishes, but can sing "Happy Birthday" together with a lot of mudcatters for an esteemed and learned colleague! |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Rapparee Date: 19 Sep 05 - 09:46 AM May, 2006. Hmmm....my wife is pining for a trip to Ireland...her relatives are Dingleites living in Cork city...hmmm...shouldn't interfer with the neice and nephew's graduations...hmmm.... |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Charmion Date: 19 Sep 05 - 09:47 AM Edmund and I have piled up a whole heap of Air Miles, so we might be able to swing it. We're still in the "toying with the idea" stage; going overseas two years in a row is kinda rich for our blood (well, mine actually). Looking forward to seeing the Moos at the Getaway! |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Letty Date: 19 Sep 05 - 10:00 AM Hostels in Cork (I plan to have the Saturday session in the city centre, but nothing has been booked yet):
Hope this is useful! Please don't inundate me with requests for floorspace. As much as I'd love to have you all in my place, I'm back to student accommodation (house-share), and so are most of my friends. This means I am NOT free to take in an unlimited number of guests. I do not mean to be unfriendly or a bad host, or that I don't care about money problems (join the club), it is just not possible! The spaces I have (currently 5: 1 bed, 1 sofa, 3 air beds) will go to previous gathering organisers first. If they don't take them, I will 'advertise' them. So, so sorry! Will invite you all back when I'm rich and respectable ;-) Letty |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: John MacKenzie Date: 19 Sep 05 - 10:07 AM Rich sounds good Letty, respectable though Mmmmm! G |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: mooman Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:04 PM I chatted with An Pluiméir Ceolmhar and his wife Joelle, and also last year's hosts Jill and Roger, and all have expressed an interest in coming to Cork in May 2006. Peace Richard |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Susanne (skw) Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:17 PM Letty, with so many alternatives I probably won't need floorspace at your place. The only thing is, I may not be able to book well in advance. Just in case: Is anyone looking for shared self-catering acc. and would be willing to let me have bed or floor space (whatever is available)? Seeing the line-up I really wouldn't like to miss this one! Anyway, how about the Viking? Is he on holiday, or facing another Ofsted invasion? |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Skipjack K8 Date: 20 Sep 05 - 07:33 PM I have had sharp words with said Viking today, and he is defo coming, even to the degree of supplying his beloved PA for the Saturday night thing. Richard, it will be luvverly if we can show Jill and Roger a good time in appreciation of Euro2005 in Niort9. They'm luvverly peeps. |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: alanww Date: 21 Sep 05 - 06:41 AM Hiya Letty et al. Brill! Its not on the MayDay weekend this year! So Sandy & I might be able to make it. It would be good to see everyone again. I've still got the Brussels 2002 T-shirt! Thanks also for the hostel links. Say, is the Cork Singers' Club still going? The website seems very old - latest details are of artists booked in the year 2000! I heard about it a while ago but have never managed to make it. Is it still unaccomanied singing every Sunday? "... as I hear the sweet lark sing ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: GUEST,catsphiddle@work Date: 21 Sep 05 - 07:07 AM Micca and I might be able to make it too. It will be our 1st wedding anniversary on the 7th! will look into flights and accomodation! |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 21 Sep 05 - 09:09 AM but there are SO MANY music gatherings all over Ireland (and some in Britain) the May weekend |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Rapparee Date: 21 Sep 05 - 09:17 AM My wife just said, "So, why didn't you tell me sooner?" So we're going to start looking into ways and means. |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: MudGuard Date: 21 Sep 05 - 10:51 AM Philippa, ask the organizers of those gatherings to change their schedules. ;-) |
