It's time my wooden, keyed simple flute got a good overhaul. Anyone have recommendations for good flute repairer in the UK? The area Derby/ Nottingham/ Stoke / Manchester/ Sheffield would be ideal.

2 well-known Irish players recommended John Dodd at "Top Wind" in London, as an excellent repairer who does complete overhauls. Only problem might be that he is re-locating to Ireland very soon, and may not be taking on any new work in this country. Worth trying, I would suggest. You can find their website by a "Google".

Paul
There is a guy in Kent somewhere called Chris A P McNeilly who can repair flutes. He is also a luthier of some note.
I can't locate his web site but if you pm me I'll let you have his email address.
Cheers
Ged

Of the 2 mentioned to you, Chris is great and highly recommended but beware Mr Dodd: he did a very disappointing & expensive refurb of a wooden flute for me. Left it with cork pads which didn't seal properly, string tenons which didn't seal properly and supplied an inappropriately runny wax for the joints, which also failed to seal them. I had to totally redo it.Sorry to disrecommend someone but I felt ripped off. It was my first wooden flute and I learned how to service them myself the hard way.

I'm sure John would be gutted to hear that eleanor. He has done an excellent repair and overhaul on both my wooden flutes. But alas he is off to the Emerald Isle at the beginning of November and is nearly finished at Topwind ....maybe even the end of this week.

Sarah

Thanks all. I've got a few names now, though sadly none are local. I'll follow those up.

One more for you - George Ormiston is a great maker and repairer - Tarbrax, West Lothian is the location.

You'll find him on the web.
