In the evening Gordon Tyrrall and Brian Peters perform at the Lewes Arms Folk Club (admission £6).

FLUTE & WHISTLE WORKSHOP

            Gordon plays flute, whistle, guitar & sings. He has played with the bands Iona & Dab Hand, as a solo artist & as a duo with Brian Peters & also Maggie Boyle. He specialises in Northern English dance music, particularly from the Joshua Jackson collection, Irish music, & in setting the poems of John Clare. As well as being in demand for folk clubs & festivals he appears regularly on radio, stage & television, his most recent appearance being in the BBCs' Pride & Prejudice.

             The workshop will cover flute (especially wooden simple system ) & whistle technique: fingering, decoration, styles, etc. - & their appropriate use in the instrumental traditional music & songs of England, Scotland & Ireland.

11.00   Discuss styles & aims. Play a tune or two.



12.30   Lunch



13.30   Begin to learn a few tunes by ear & written music



15.15            Tea/coffee break



15.30   Final play of studied pieces. Assess achievements & areas for                                              improvement.



16.45   Finish



N.B. Booking is recommended as numbers are limited. Music, maps & accommodation lists will be sent in advance.
