Declan: those jumbled conversations are something else. Now, you'd think with these modern computer thingies somebody could sort them into order, wouldn't you.
Four years ago, huh?Well, if someoene said to me "You had a conversation four years ago with someone called Declan about the Lakes of Pontchartrain" I'd say "What are you talking about?"
    Well, I wonder what we talked about.

Hello Greg.

I was reading (with a certain degree of embarrassment) our "conversation" on the previous thread about this song, which makes even less sense than it did then since the sequence of the posts has been jumbled.

That was during the last World Cup. 4 years doesn't seem to take as long to pass as it used to.

I'm all for people translating these songs into Irish, just so long as they dont turn up on American Celtic music websites as the original versions. Which, alas, will certainly happen.

Just a small point Declan, the CD may have been "Éist a Dó" in Ireland but I've only see it as "Éist Aris."

The translation is by Pronnsias Ó Maonaigh (aka Francie Mooney) who passed away recently. Francie was the father of Máiréad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan. Paul Brady recorded Francie's tribute to his local area "Gleanntáin Ghlas Ghaoith Dóbhair" for an album called "Éist" which featured various artists singing songs in Irish. Paul was a member of the Johnsons who had a hit with Gleanntáin Glaas in the sixties. He also recorded "Paddy's Green Shamrock SHore to the same air on "Welcome Hear Kind Stranger", which also contains the English language version of Pontchartrain.

Pronnsias' Gaelivc version was recorded by Paul and features on the follow up to éist called "Éist a Dó".

Went to a concert in Dublin last week and one of the musicians was Paul Brady. He sang his version of The Lakes of Ponchartrain through Irish and it was really beautiful. I have searched to see if I might find a recording or lyrics but to no avail as yet. Just hoping there might be someone who may have some information
