Subject: BS: Waiting for the estate agent to ring From: JulieF Date: 29 Jan 07 - 05:46 AM Well - took the plunge and made an offer on a house So now here I am sat at work, waiting for them to have rung all the interested parties to see if anyone else wants to offer before they ring me back with yeah or nay or even 'do you want to up the offer' Big gamble because of all the interest in the house - I've seen it once, daughter has only seen the blurb and pictures on the net and parents have been struggling with the web site so haven't seen it at all. Mightly big decision to take on your own. J |

On my second visit I found out that it was carpeted, it had an electric stove, and no phone connection! But I'm still here. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: Waiting for the estate agent to ring From: JulieF Date: 29 Jan 07 - 08:05 AM Thanks Sandra The estate agent just rang and they are keeping the bidding open until Thursday. Doesn't do the stress levels much good. And all our internal networks have just gone down. Dug up a cable in the carpark. All that's up is the internet but no external e-mails getting in and out ! Subject: RE: BS: Waiting for the estate agent to ring From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 Jan 07 - 09:58 AM So this isn't a simple matter of making an offer on the house and the current owners saying yes or no? Waiting for them to go the rounds must be agonizing. That's where I got lucky with this house. From the outside it was the true Ugly Ducking--it sat empty for over a year so I didn't have anyone else's interest to contend with. I interviewed the next door neighbor and then offered a low bid because he told me that two other low bids had already been rejected--and third time was the charm. I put a lot more $ in after I bought it, but the value of the house reflects my investment in it (unfortunately, so do my taxes!) SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Waiting for the estate agent to ring From: Schantieman Date: 29 Jan 07 - 12:47 PM Scary, yes, especially for the first time and especially on your own. Good luck. BUT a wise investment - MUCH better than renting. Hope it goes well Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Waiting for the estate agent to ring From: JulieF Date: 29 Jan 07 - 02:30 PM I think perhaps its possibly more scary because it isn't the first one - but it was a "we" that bought this house 20 years ago and now it's an older an wiser "I" . On top of that I feel a sort of moral obligation to my daughter ( 21 - old enought to make her wants perfectly clear but likely to be with me for a few years given university costs and the difficulty in getting on the housing ladder.) Actually if I was a first time buyer it might be easier as I think the seller will be tempted to take a slightly lower offer from a buyer who has no chain and I'm waiting for my buyer to sell their house. On top of that have to go to work tomorrow and face all our users who can't get back into the systems until the cable's mended ( 3 ish we think) adn they did the filing today. J |
