Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 21 Apr 04 - 08:20 AM I think you have a good point there, Daithi (and BTW, thanks for making the trek yesterday, it was great to see you, and you made it the cooking session that it urned out to be), so I'll start a new thread, as those watching in black and white on 405 line electric televisions are probably avoiding 400+ post threads. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 21 Apr 04 - 08:18 AM Richard, this time it won't be bears but whelks... 57 whelks to be exact ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: mooman Date: 21 Apr 04 - 08:14 AM If the previous three EuroGatherings are anything to go on, the whole weekend will be seamlessly integrated and "merged", possibly with the aid of many bears. Peace moo |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 21 Apr 04 - 07:14 AM Well it will probably "Merge" as far as Linda and myself are concerned - quantities of beer tend to have that effect ! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Dáithí mag Fhionainn Date: 21 Apr 04 - 06:41 AM Just stumbled home from the usual nonsense at the 6 Bells session last night- having been informed by the illuminati present that this 'ere MudcatEuro gathering is actually happening in Barrow - and not someplace called "europe", as I had erroneously assumed. Thus, my decision to spurn what I believed to be another attempt by the travel indistry to lure innocent offshore islanders into further debt with enticements to cross the Channel...sigh (sorry - Oaklet was at the pub last night , and is, i fear, contagious...) SO.. if it's all right with you folks I intend to attend - can only make the Sunday though, as I shall be lighting the Beltane Fire on the Saturday. Can I assume that if I turn up for the afternoon session this will "merge" into the survivors bash in the evening - thus saving me the trouble of an 80 mile round trip to attend both? Dáithí |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 20 Apr 04 - 06:25 AM With all these Catters coming over from Germany, I hope that we Brits won't have a problem with getting the sun-loungers first. Oaklet - can you sort out some whelks to act as chair attendants to ensure fair play ? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 20 Apr 04 - 03:35 AM And shame on you, Mudguard! There is a much better photo of me here, right front, too! Further propagating unfavourable photos will endanger my schnapps number IOU in earnest. ;)> Wilfried |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 20 Apr 04 - 03:19 AM Oaklet - thanks for the kind offer. By the way, since there is no Oaklet in the Profiles and Photos, are you a relative to an Oakley represented there (fiddling in Hull). If yes, do you look like him? Since I don't know the size of a Morris, and considering that I have to share it with a lot of whelks up to the gills, I will retain my backpack to the tiniest size possible. Eager to meet you Wilfried |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 19 Apr 04 - 10:50 AM Yes, Micca was standing on a stool and I was sitting down ;-) No, we were both sitting... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Apr 04 - 09:58 AM Was Micca standing on a stool at the time, or were you sitting down Andreas ? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 19 Apr 04 - 09:06 AM Oaklet, just to make things clear: MudGuard is not Wilfried. left one is me (right one is Micca) at Portaferry this year |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Apr 04 - 07:59 AM Oaklet - be careful that you don't get a nipple-ring caught on a passing tram ! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 19 Apr 04 - 07:51 AM Thanks Wilfried. You are now imprinted but please adopt exactly that pose, holding the beard like you are afraid that it'll be sucked off by the turbulence of a passing tram. I look forward to meeting you at the ferry terminal. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Apr 04 - 06:23 AM For those interested in badges, I should be able to make either 57mm or 30mm badges (thats actual badge size - so leave a reasonable border). I can produce Mudcat badges in either size complete with your own name. If you want to supply your own artwork you can bring it either pre-printed (on thin paper) or on a floppy disk in a standard graphics format. I can't rememember the diameter of the actual cut-out for the badges, but will check up when I get home - so you can print a circle for cutting purposes (to get more accurate alignment) if you so wish. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Letty Date: 19 Apr 04 - 06:05 AM As Ryanair has decided to fly an hour earlier, I'll now be arriving Friday at 12.50. This means I definitely have to take the 5AM train from Cork, and then go to the airport REALLY quickly. Iarnrod Eireann had better not break down like last time! Looking forward to it, Letty |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 19 Apr 04 - 05:56 AM Oaklet, to make identification of target Wilfried easier: Wilfried (right at the front) at Groningen last year |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 19 Apr 04 - 05:11 AM The 1971 Morris Traveller can be at the ferry terminal at 08.00, Wilfried, to collect and deliver you to Barrow. As most drive Morris Travellers in Hull - look out for a white one stuffed to the gunnels with whelks, being driven by a naked bloke with three pierced nipples. That should limit the list of potential taxi-drivers to 10 or so. If you have difficulties, please go to a public phone box (they are bright cream in Hull9), insert a selection of small denomination pre-decimal coins and ask the operator to be connected to Barton 962. Press the A button when the call is answered. Button B returns unspent coins. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 19 Apr 04 - 04:17 AM Hi YY - sorry for not replying sooner - yeah, I'm sorted after all. Thank you for the offer though! Looking forward to meeting you. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: YorkshireYankee Date: 18 Apr 04 - 08:28 PM Personally, I like 'Pay No More Than £57' I also humbly submit the titles 'Fare Thee Whelk' and 'WHELKOME TO HULL! Mudcat Eurogathering '04' for consideration. Have had no response thus far from anyone interested in a ride from Sheffield (or nearby) (Fibula, are you sorted)? If I don't get any response in the next day or two, I will go ahead & make train reservations, so let me know *soon* if you are interested! Eric, please put me down for a t-shirt (XL). Thanks! Cheers, YY |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 18 Apr 04 - 07:45 PM Well, Fibs, my sadness is not beyond happening to know that the platter that you clutch was number one in the album charts in the UK on the fourth of April 1987, when you were a wee girl. Those colonials, always sure to wait until an idea's a racing certainty, came to the party a bit late, and released their version in 2001. So it seems this will be 'Now 9 III', which buggers up that idea. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Doug Chadwick Date: 18 Apr 04 - 05:51 PM If any campers would like to PM me with an expected time of arrival and departure, I will PM back the exact location of the camping field. If your not a member and therefore can't send a PM ..........well, now you have a good reason for joining. Doug C |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 18 Apr 04 - 04:15 PM Fibula, to hear the whelks, play it backwards. And at 57 rpms, of course ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 18 Apr 04 - 03:20 PM My dearest Skippy, It worries me that I actually have in my possession a copy of "Now that's what I call music 9" and there are no songs about Hull on it, although the Ward Brother's "Cross that Bridge" may be an indirect reference, as might Genesis' "Land of Confusion". It does, however, have Gary Moore's "Over the hills and far away" on it, so it's worthwhile keeping. But no mention of whelks. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 18 Apr 04 - 02:08 PM And another thing. I was out gigging with that Bill Sables in Whitby yesterday, and he has kindly offered to compere the Saturday Night Concert, for which the bill is now complete. What we are hoping to be able to do is record the concert, and publish the highlights (which will be all of it!) as a fundraising CD for Mudcat. Early ideas for the title are 'Now That's What I Call Music 9' or 'Pay No More Than £57', but the marketing is at the embryonic stage. 9. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 18 Apr 04 - 08:53 AM Mooman, that is wondeful news indeed that Ken and his new bride can join us. Brilliant! Wouldn't be a pucka Eurogather without him. That's made my otherwise rainy day. Wilfried, I will have a local violinist, or somesuch collect you from wicked Hull9, and whisk you straight to the protective bosom of our quietly rural South Bank. Then we will try and integrate you back into Hull9 society safe in the phalanx of the cultural tour. So that's sorted. Who is this local aerophonist? Vinegrette rien. £57 is the price, TIOFLI terms (take it or .........). That's a contractual term beloved of lard traders. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Eric the Viking Date: 18 Apr 04 - 07:18 AM So Ken got a flight for $57! That's cheap. Last chance for T shirts, as I shall start the hunt this week. Hope it's not too late, been really busy and time has flown by. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 17 Apr 04 - 06:02 PM Vinegra? Are you sure you don't mean Viagra? I'd like the whelks to be standing upright ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 17 Apr 04 - 05:35 PM It would help with the catering if attendees could indicate whether you would prefer your whelks served with vinegar. Vinegra as we call it in North Lincs (due to its restorative properties) is extra. It costs an additional £57.00. The price level was suggested by a local aerophonist. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: mooman Date: 17 Apr 04 - 05:19 PM Dear All, Have just heard from Ken Gilman. He and Elizabeth will also be joining us in rainy Barrow-upon-'Umber from sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico. There's commitment for you! I've sent him the details of the rolling-pin wielding Mrs Styles in case she can help with accomodation. I'll leave it to our rather large friend to amend the attendance details and collect the necessary £57 or 100 stinking fish or equivalent in whelks. Peace Richard |

Wolfgang Wolfgang, what do you think how I was able to fix a post with the very few really important messages so fast? Forget all the fishmongery and mark, copy and paste these messages - especially mine to a special file named e.g. EuroMud4.* (*=doc, htm, rtf, fck or else). Yours faithfully W. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 17 Apr 04 - 12:14 PM Who am I to contradidict my esteemed and learned colleague MMario? But I must insist on the correct link And now the bad news, for you, Skip&c.: Due to booking difficulties I shall miss the initial meeting at April 30 and shall arrive by P&O Ferry on May 1, about 08:00 (whatever time you use in North Lincolnshire), in the morning, so the timetable declares, at the estuaries of lovely Humber (they talk about a town named Hull there), just opposite to Barrow upon Humber. Sorry, but you will have to endure me until May 3, 21:00 when the ferry will leave to Rottendam, where I shall mount the train to Krankfurt. Sorry, but eager to meet you and all the hellish Hullish vikings. Wilfried P.S. Excuse the orthography, my humble self being a little bit drunk: I just met an old teacher of mine, and had a jolly wet discussion for some hours about about the times some 40 years ago And you all: you are kindly requessted to sopp writing about whelks, wheeled elks and oll ather kinds of currencies amounting to 57 or what ellssssse it really disurbs me |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: YorkshireYankee Date: 16 Apr 04 - 04:45 PM Dave -- is that for Mudcat name badges? If so, I'd definitely be interested. Cheers, YY |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 16 Apr 04 - 01:35 PM Dave, if you bring the badgemaking stuff, would it be possible to do one or two non-mudcat-related badges? (I'll pay for material of course) If so, what size are the badges? I would bring printouts with me... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Les from Hull Date: 16 Apr 04 - 01:16 PM We don' need no steenking fish! Steenkin' badges, though - there's another thing. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Susanne (skw) Date: 16 Apr 04 - 11:43 AM Nor would Ryanair (or whoever we're flying with), I'm sure - but fortunately Wolfgang lives in an area where stinking (or other) fish are not all that easy to come by. Might think about 57 cooked whelks, though ... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 16 Apr 04 - 10:06 AM I'm thinking of bringing badge-making gear up with me (including lap-top and printer) - will anyone be interested ? Wolfgang - if you're thinking of paying in Wilfried's suggested currency, then you can forget the lift - we are not going to transport hundreds of stinking fish either in the car or the caravan. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 15 Apr 04 - 03:27 AM Oh, I forgot the current rate of change: 100 stinking fish = 1 liter of best stout. If there is no measure of 0.57 l in HMO labyrinthic nondecimal system, the next larger one is preferred. :0) ;)) |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 13 Apr 04 - 07:41 AM In that case, I'm keeping my tankard well out of the way of his whelks if they're likely to drink my beer |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Apr 04 - 07:38 AM I happen to know that Oaklet was involved in covert operations in market intelligence in the Bullring last week that involved whelks jugged in a gsllon of ale. It doubled as a cunning plan to get a seat on an overcrowded train home. |
