Nice job - John Hardy

Subject: RE: Obit: David Carradine 3 or 4 June 2009 From: GUEST,TJ in San Diego Date: 04 Jun 09 - 04:39 PM I remember David's father, John Carradine, from movies like "Stagecoach," which kick-started John Wayne's career and "The Grapes of Wrath." In the latter, there is a sort of emotional "six degrees" connection to Woodie Guthrie and those for whom he sang. John Carradine had one of those unforgettable stentorian voices that often reeked of ham when he played preachers, shady characters or wayward frontier thespians. David was once married to Barbara Hershey, who was also known for a time as "Barbara Seagull." They were both flower children for a while and seemed to drift in and out of alternative lifestyles. He had seemed to have taken his craft much more seriously in later years. He also seemed to have evolved a sort of self-deprecating sense of humor, which makes it seem all the more odd that his life should have ended as it did. Perhaps an undisclosed illness underlies it. We may never know. Condolences to his family. |

I would hope that he could have used the Tai Chi powers of concentration to rise above those thoughts. |

Subject: RE: Obit: David Carradine 3 or 4 June 2009 From: Wesley S Date: 04 Jun 09 - 11:27 AM My understanding is that the "Kung-Fu" TV series was developed for Bruce Lee. But the network honchos decided that America wasn't ready for a TV series staring an oriental. So a few changes were made and Carradine ended up as the star. And I'm glad that they made a movie about Woody Guthrie but it grated on my nerves that they allowed Carradine to play a Mossman guitar in the movie. It's a great guitar but they weren't used widely until well after Woody stopped performing. A little point but sometimes we guitar players are bothered by things like that. |
