The naked truth is...

a whimsical allegory by Joel Mabus. It's not in the DT, and I don't have the lyrics, but it's well worth a listen if you can find it, all this talk of nekkidness reminded me of the song. (no spaw, it didn't remind me of Joel)

benjamin, how do you know how old i am?

if you check bbc's mudcat resources, i think you'll find that i just turned twenty four in november. and when i was hanging out with nekkid 65 year olds, i was young i was pure i was new i was nice, i was fair i was sweet nineteen.

open your eyes, man! there's a hell of a lot of beauty in a body that's been around the block a few times.

Liam, that was beatiful! Keep it up!

whoa! mudcat radio tipped me off that there was nakedness being discussed on this thread. so i says to myself: self, this is where you need to be posting.

anyone who thinks a sexy body is prerequisite for public nakedness is just plain wrong. please re-read rick fielding's post on "falling in love with mudcatters" for a particularly eloquent explanation. one woman stands out among my all-time favorite naked people: she was at least 65... probably older. she was about five-feet-nine-inches tall, with frizzy, salt and pepper hair halfway down her back. she stood tall and strong with her wrinkly little pot belly right out front and her breasts sagging to her waist. she was a classic hag. she looked you right in the eye so you felt she was seeing all the way down to the bottom of your soul.

and another of my all-time favorites: another old woman, this time a lesbian and dianic wiccan (she and her partner were both former nuns). she got naked for a full moon ritual, and gussied up by tying a bow around her saggy left breast. ha! show me the young sexy woman who can tie a bow around her breast and i'll show you the tragic victim of silicone poisoning.

I guess it's not the one. Chekov had his bass player arrive at a stately home to play for an event. The musicians arrived early so our bass player went for a walk. He saw a small pond and decided to take a dip. He stripped off and jumped in. While he was swimming someone stole his clothes so he had to go bak to the house naked. He sneaked in hiding whenever possible and eventually got on the podium (fortunately he was at the back) and crept onto the stage and played naked, hiding behind his bass all the time.

Bert, I don't think so. By recollection — which is often flawed these days — is that it was a serious classical musician who got sick of jumping thru other people's hoops to work in the business and actually went on the road with the naked act as a sorta up-your-nose gesture to the stuffed shirts. Wish I could remember more of the whos and whys of it, but it didn't seem important to me at the time....

And 'Spaw, if you're gonna try to rival BB for that kind of act, I think you'd better keep yer day job.

I have had a running joke about myself for years..(25-30 or so!)...that I want to be elected "Emperor of the Universe"....because there are so many things I'd like to change. Ususally, I tell people a few things, and they say "Hey, not bad! I'll vote for you!".....then I tell them a few MORE things I'd change, on a different level, and I get this look...and they say..."ummm...maybe I WON'T vote for you after all"...

I suspect that if everyone knew my entire platform, I'd get NO votes...*grin*...but that's the way it goes...

one of the problem with anyone getting the power to have any serious ability to make changes that affect a lot of people, is that the job often attracts those you don't WANT to have that power!...But they often are willing to lie to GET it!..You know the saying..."Power corrupts...etc..."....well, often, the corruption comes before the power...at least I am up front about MY ideas...so you don't have to worry that I'll be running things very soon...

So...what would I do?...well, I guess the major one is to put in place measures that would gradually reduce world population..not 'slow down growth'...**REDUCE**...In my view, there are SO many problems which will NEVER be solved if we just keep growing...(see? I lost a few votes right there...*grin*).....

then there are little things, like gun control, and MONUMENTAL changes in transportation/traffic laws and who is allowed behind the wheel of an automobile...(ooops...lost a few more votes...durn...)

the list goes on...been working on it for many years....

well, you asked...

well, neked, pot bellied, bald headed banjo players aside - when I saw this thread I immediately remembered one of those quotes that hit me like a ton of bricks, and marked a turning point in my life. It was one of those statements that I knew immediately was correct, and probably hit me at a most teachable moment.

Paul Harvey used an ancient Greek (I think) quote, he said; "A radical" (and in those early 70's I considered myself a radical) "is someone who wants to change the world, becasue it's easier than changing himself." I knew (at least in my case) that this was the truth. Since that moment I've focused on changing myself. I've been happier, seen real, personal growth and know I've I had an impact on the world around me. After this notion hit me; I started singing "when will we ever learn?" as opposed to "when will they ever learn?" when singing Where have all the Flowers Gone?. I think it strengthens the message, and keeps me involved in the healing process!

When I had the energy and enthusiasm that comes with youth I believed that I could help to change the world so I joined the British Labour party! so what happened? The Party changed but not the world, so now I try to change my small bit of the world by having respect for the earth that we live on and all the people I come into contact with. Not much I know but hopefully my kids will take up the baton and keep running with it until they pass it on to their own kids. One conclusion I've come to is that big gestures tend to be futile but lots of small ones can make small differences.

Every moment of every day the world IS being changed. All of those changes affect us in varying degrees.

There is all kinds of evidence that people with common cause, have effected change in their mutual interest.

All of those events will change each of us.

My usual question is do we accede to the changes that are wrought by and on behalf of those that gots, or do we work on a little change for ourselves.

I was raised a Quaker. However, I have also been a combat photographer in Ireland, in Belfast in the 70s, so, I am not a knee jerk non-violent reactionary. I have come to believe that there are cercumstances where small nations and marginalized people have a right to resist the violence of nations like the US, Britain and Russia and Germany, with whatever tools are open to them in the face of unthinking, immoral agression. On the other hand, dont forget that we changed sides right after WW2, building up IG Farbin the nazi state corporation as a tool to destroy Russia, finally winning the cold war by returning eastern Europe to facsizm and Russia to rule by the mafia. I dont know that that young man standing in Times Square saying, I will not be a part of the maddness, was not doing as much to save the world. I do not say this to demeen the actions of a generation that fought the greatest war of liberation in history. I never miss a chance to thank and shake the hand of any WW2 vet, if he or she fought in the Internaitonal Brigades of Spain, or the armies allied against nazism. What they did was nothing short of save civilization, however, much of what they did, was sold short by corrupt leadership afterwards. If you dont believe it, go to the Czech Republic and watch the walling in of Gypsies in new ghettos - and weep if you have an ounce of humanity, for the Jews of Warsaw and now the Gypsies of the Czech Republic. Peace
Speed the day
but NO PASSARAN!
SALUD!

Its one of the problems of the internet Soph......No inflection, no visual read of facial expression or body language. And unless someone launches into the occasional diatribe, most comments are too short and sometimes misinterpreted. Guilty as charged!!!

Wow! I couldn't see none of this coming!

Honestly, I like InOBU's quote. I believe BB took it the right way. I've heard said before that if you don't try to change the world, the world will change you. The world changing you wasn't meant to be taken as a good thing either.

Spaw, as for thinking about you running around nekkid- I'm really not sure how old you are. But at my young age, we NEVER think about anyone nekkid who's over 30! It's just not appealing! Sorry!

Its funny Spaw how the same set of words, written not spoken, can imply such very different things to the people reading them. For you they imply rigidity, for me they mean not being blown here and there at the behest of fickle fashion. I just think its a marvelous illustration of the opacity of language and that we should be careful not to always assume transparency.

Sorry guys.......Didn't mean to offend. I am offended though by rigidity, and the statement implies rigidity to me. Whatever works for an indivdual is fine by me. But when you stop challenging the things you believe..........I can't personally imagine it.

Catspaw, maybe Larry meant, that if you believe in something (hopefully good stuff like ethics, kindness, compassions, etc.) that no matter how challenging it gets 'out there', with all odds against you, you still maintain your faith.

As for banjo playing in the nude, I figure it's going to take me too many years to become a good player, so I thought I'd try a new angle to generate popularity. I must say, my performance doesn't look too bad in the mirror.

That's complete bullshit. Anyone whose life is not changed and whose thoughts, ideas, beliefs, feelings, and actions are not changed by the world around them is so staid and hackneyed in their thinking and in their soul that living would never present any challenge, or enjoyment to them. What was this guy's conscientious objection anyway? I would assume religious belief of the most fervent order.

Benjamin, I try to work on being a good person. If I want the world to change, I must change myself first. Keeps the goal uncomplicated and practical for me that way.

In light of the Gandi quote (weather or not it's word for word Peter) "If we want the world to change you must first model what you want to change," It asks two questons.

1)How do you want the world to change? What do you want to see people do differently?

2)How are you modeling that change?

To me, these questons are great to ponder through out the week, but if you want to reply, go ahead.
