Bill, it's Jug night, and I ain't there. More to the point, neither are you.

I think you flew over to the old colony yesterday, and all us Blighty 'Catters are curious to know how it goes, when it goes. Why, even Mrs Duck was asking after you a few minutes ago.

So whenever you can get hooked up, we'd appreciate some feedback on life with our 'Septic' mates, and how the grand tour is going.

Over to you, or whosoever has word of you.

Hope you have a storming time, mate.

Skipjack K8

ps Don't ask where you can buy some fags. I did, in '76 when I was in Boston for the BiCentennial Tall Ships bash, and I got a handbagging for my impertinence.

LOL and also don't go telling someone they are *fruity* in the sense you know over there! It'll probably get you the same reaction as asking for a *fag*.

This is going to be so much fun!

Yeah, Art. Allan's friend, David had some old injuries flare up from a fall which means he cannot ride in a car for any length of time. You can read about it in this thread, which Allan started as an explanation.

Well, only a little off, Vixen.

We will be playing our "Network Tour" kickoff gig tonight. Then tomorrow at about eleven we will actually pack up the car and go.

Of course, for me, the adventure began almost at the moment the idea was born and for Bill, it began when I phoned him and asked him if he were serious about a remark he made about making the trip. Turned out that he was!

I want to take just a moment here to tell you all something. It is because you all are out there that this trip idea came to be reality. A few months ago, when I first spoke the idea out loud, when I first sent a few personal notes to some of you, THAT is when I began to realize that this trip could actually happen. Since then I have been amazed by all of the people who have offered so very generously whatever they could to make the trip far more wonderful than I could ever have imagined.

It will truly be an amazing adventure. You are amazing people.

Thank you!

Here are some tips for the road boys:
If you are thirsty while driving, avoid beer and drink water instead.
If you notice the driver is drooling, it is time to pull over and switch drivers.
Watch the speed limit, and if you get caught speeding, tell the policeman you had to go to the bathroom real badly.
Try to eat healthy, food on the road can be really bad for the system.
If you get sleepy, instead of having a cup of coffee to wake you up, pop a few chocolate covered coffee beans, that ought to do it.
Don't pick up strangers unless they are really cute.
And one more thing........
Maybe you should get a mascot for your dashboard. Something meaningful a special to you, kind of like Catspaw's Cleigh.

From wonderful experience with both these gents, I can tell all who are about to have the pleasure of their company, you're in for a enjoyable visit. Allan will make your coffee for you in the morning, and wash your dishes at night, and in the middle, you'll have some fine musicmaking. Bill will introduce you to Yorkshire tea, some great stories, and some fine musicmaking. ..AND, they're both sexy! (of course some of you won't care about that)

I cannot wait til June 22. We'll have a barbeque on the gazebo with steaks, shrimp and beer or soda. Oh, and Bills favorite, Cafe Olay from 7-11 ;-) Bill and I will go out on my river in our kayaks. Others are welcome to go out too, but we only have two kayaks.

I guess this is setting the summer off too.

Cannot wait!!

Love, annap

Well, that means I have to get out a real coffee pot! Rog did find some Mexican instant at the store the other day which he says isn't too bad! I can't stand the taste of the stuff!**BG**

And, Bill, just so'se ya know...around here if you ask for Cafe Olay....people wil figure you want to go out for a Mexican dinner at Cafe Jose's; Las Magaritas'; El Jarro's; or La Cocina's! And, since ya said they took your tea at Custom's, I've got a line on a place we can get some supposedly *good* English tea, direct from the auld sod...we put it to the test when you get here!

Hey, Allan, my grandsons turn 2 years old tomorrow...an auspicious day all round!

From: Mrrzy

OK, 'tis begun. Here are my impressions of The Network Tour kickoff gig, whence I have just returned. Here are my impressions:

I arrived to a big hug from my sister-out-law, whom I had not known would be there. Allan was playing the guitar with a skinny hairy dude (playing the banjo) and someone who looked terrifically familiar (playing the most beautiful black flute). At that song's conclusion, Allan got up and gave me a hug and introduced me to the others. Bill handed me a Mudcat Cafe pin with Mrrzy on it, A present from England, he said. Familiar Man looked at me and said Mrrzy? Aren't you the woman I mistook for your double? And not only is BeauDangles one of the many, many people to mistake me for this person I obviously look exactly like, he's the one who made the best comment, the comment I have consistently repeated to all who mistook me for her in the several years since he and I met... which was Whatever you do, when you meet, don't touch or BOTH universes will be annihilated! And the punch line is... he didn't remember making the comment!
Don't you love it when your memories come back to you from someone else's brain where they've been hanging out for years?
The next thing I found out is that the person who was supposed to be working the coffeehouse had just quit in a huff, and the owner was thinking of just closing up. More to come, someone at door!

Well, I'm wild with anticipation about the gathering at LEJ's on June 7th. I just think the tour needs to be extended -- too much of a whirlwind, and we all want to have a chance to visit!

Maybe I'll just hitch a ride with you fellas and go back up to Casper for a visit in my old stompin' grounds. Kat, I say La Cocina, si? Although I've had their tea and it simply will not DO.

Oh, and Bill shouldn't ask anyone to "knock me up at 7" either, as one of my friends from the U.K. did, or he could find himself in some most curious circumstances...

Not only does Allan make coffee in the morning but he creeps around on little cat feet .... I've got a whole week's worth of dishes just a waitin' ...

I'm driving to Carrabelle (Gulf coast) to pick up fresh shrimp and scallops, early Saturday morning and my dad's already in the process of smoking his pork butts. I've got a stash of green tomatoes to go with the country ham, redeye gravy, grits, and buttermilk biscuits. Sunday we'll have a small gathering at my house with some people from around Tally ... then Monday it's to my Dad's pecan farm for the big bbq. I think he's invited the whole town of Monticello. harpgirl and son will be there and, hopefully, paddymac.

Oh, BTW, don't tell 'em, but I bought a new couch and am going to enlist their aid in taking my loveseat hideabed to the storage unit and picking up the new couch. Daddy is graciously loaning his truck.

Now ... if the horrendous blisters on my left hand will just heal before they get here, all will be well ... moonchild

I'll grant, having a double is weird. But I was digressing and would have gotten back to The Story, but then someone popped by...

So, anyway, the three of them (Bill Sables, Allan C, and BeauDangles) played much lovely music while most folks helped themselves to coffee and such since there was no "help" per se, Even the coffeehouse owner sat down, grabbed a guitar and belted something out with quite the set of pipes. I took a bunch of still pix and my sisterol wielded the video camera, so we have records of this beginning. Towards the end of the evening, one of my twins (the sleepy one) requested Castle of Dromore; I had to sing it, but it worked, out he went and the other one stayed up and cheerful till well after 10, when we had to close up shop. The singers went over to an Irish pub, but I had to take my kids home in the hopes of getting up for school today, boo hoo... and I am very much regret not being able to wet whistles with those guys! Hope the rest of the trip is as superb or better! I want to read all about it, whoever's next, get your fingers warmed up! The typin' ones, I mean, as well as the pickin' ones...

Could someone with blue-clicky fingers move this saga to a fresher page? Thanks!

Sent Allan and Bill off a couple of hours ago, sigh... it was hard to let them go after so brief a stay! But so sweet. When they walked in the door of my little shop, I finally believed!

We had a peaceful, small gathering, they got a brief tour of our little town, played and sang a few, we exchanged some gifts, and they're off. I too, am the proud owner of a Mudcat pin with my name on it! Thank you.

Wish it could have been longer, but it sure was nice to see 'em. I pass them off to the next stop, wishing I could have towed along!

Some random thoughts:

Bill's leather carving is absolutely gorgeous - I can't believe my banjo has gone strapless for so long! I'm going to start saving my money...

Translation wasn't technically necessary, though between my poor hearing and Bill's accent (or is it WE who have the accent?) we missed a few beats: it was a TOMATO sandwich the poor man was after! He finally got it, though.

Allan sang a wonderful funeral song, and I joined in, promising to keep his grave clean ;)

We all exchanged some tea rituals: Allan his mate, Bill extolling virtues of Yorkshire tea, and then politely drinking a glass of 'tay' North Carolina style (iced and sweet).

Allan and I took pictures of each other taking pictures of each other, looking like complete tourists.

More later: looking forward to reports from farther along the road!

Here's a glass to the 'cat, and to Max, and the new friends they have made for us.

Dani

I'm off to the Gulf to pick up fresh seafood and then it's too my local produce market for some of the fresh stuff. I'm going to also introduce Bill to a southern epicurean's delight ... fried green tomatoes! Yummmmm! If you haven't tried 'em ... your missing out on one of life's true delights!

Well, 12:35 (PM) here now and Allan and Bill pulled out ten minutes ago. This is like a game of connect-the-dots...Mbo, you are next!

What a wonderful time we had, from the moment they arrived last night until their departure.... As some of you may know or recall, Allan and I attended high school together and only "reconnected" last last Fall, so some of the time here was spent reminiscing and looking away rapidly from geeky high school photos in the yearbooks I so thoughtfully dug out.

Meeting Bill was another special pleasure. I have to say, his voice and delivery in person is much better than hearing him via Mudcat Radio even though the sound quality of same is excellent. There was not a dry eye in this house after several of the songs he sang.

Tea -- had that too, both Bill's Yorkshire and Allan's mate, and now we have two new things to crave for!

Those of you who have not yet had the Visitation, you are in for a great treat. Two really super guys, both excellent musicians, and both with the special warmth of character that Mudcat seems to draw to itself.

Could say more and more, but don't want to take up the whole rest of the thread space!

Peace, BarbaraLynn

We're ready in OK. I've been away from the 'cat for a couple of weeks, actually since 5/10. I went and got a shinny new knee put in, one of those pretty titanium ones, to replace my badly battered one.
The adventure sounds great so far. BTW, we have some Yorkshire Tae, but we're looking for the proper preparation from the expert, Bill.
Happy chords to you and your hosts.
