Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Jun 01 - 12:26 AM Yeah Bill....I heard he was actually searching for the lighthouse at Cape Keelrip to sing to the mating walrus colony. Spaw |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Ferrara Date: 06 Jun 01 - 12:52 AM Oh, I hope you do come, Kat -- and you too, MMario! That would be so fine. I'm setting up the program again this year and would love to hear as early as possible from people who think they MAY be coming. You don't have to know for sure, at this stage. And if you will let me know what your main interests are, I'll try to work them into the program. If you were there last year, let me know which workshops or concerts worked particularly well for you! I try to have variety from year to year, but there are favorite topics that we always try to include. Rita ps Mario, I heard you singing the "Mingulay Boat Song" -- was it tonight? Liked it (and your singing!) very well, started singing along, and later this evening I sang it at the Royal Mile Pub's shanty sing. Thanks for the reminder of a great song. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Naemanson Date: 06 Jun 01 - 04:13 AM Well, I am coming along this year. I wanta have fun too [pouting and whining] if only my daughter will let me. But then, she will be a senior and I can fly if I want to! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Fortunato Date: 06 Jun 01 - 09:39 AM I swear, BillD is getting downright sentimental in his decliningg years. Where's the old cynicism, Bill my boy? I think the Mudcat is seriously eroding his crusty exterior. Not that he's getting any better looking, but he sure is getting sweeter.
Howsomever, in this case I agree with him. The Mudcatters are a breath of fresh air for the Getaway. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you face to face, myself.
|
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Bill D Date: 06 Jun 01 - 11:16 AM why, Fortunato, me boy...it was ALL cynicism!...(hey, I just found out they PAY you if you stay sweet enuf to get TO your 'declining' years!...think about it...) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Barry Finn Date: 06 Jun 01 - 05:05 PM I'll be heading there again, this time there's a good shot I'll have the whole family in tow too. See ya all. Barry |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Dani Date: 06 Jun 01 - 06:07 PM That about seals it, Barry. I think I'd like to bring a daughter or two as well. I just can't wait. This is the highlight of my year, this annual wallowing in music. Dani |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: JedMarum Date: 06 Jun 01 - 08:16 PM I very much hope to make it! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Bill D Date: 06 Jun 01 - 08:24 PM hey, great, Jed...(and nice timing on the surgery, Barry)...*big grin* |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Barry Finn Date: 06 Jun 01 - 09:15 PM Ya Dani, I'm kind of muddy about the music too. Naemanson, this is the one you're gonna love espically if Big Mick does his "I'm 24hrs late" routine & then falls down on his face without even being asked (hee, hee, just having fun Mick). Hey Bill, you know us aging folkies (not that I'm including you in on the aged), anything goes when it's for musical high. Barry |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Naemanson Date: 06 Jun 01 - 09:29 PM I'm really looking forward to this! And (trumpet fanfare) this year's post-Getaway Mudcat Radio show (thunderous drums) will be the first (chorus singing the dramatic bits form Carmina Burana) concert for the Mudcat World Tour! If you thought that idea had died you have another think coming! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Big Mick Date: 06 Jun 01 - 10:47 PM I have got to see Barry's Family. I canna believe that God would allow him to reproduce................LOL. I am going to try and take an extra day that week so I can leave on Thursday night instead of Friday after work. That way I can collapse on Friday morning........LOLA. How the hell am I going to sleep without you in the next bunk snoring and making a racquet like a one lung steam bilge pump, Barry???????? Jed, you have to make it, pal. You and Mario, and all the rest would make this one hell of a gathering. And could we make some great music. Now if I can just find a way to get Dave Swan to join his bride (Pam, you just have to come again!!!!), Rick to keep his part of the deal, and Patterson to let me pick him up on the way,..........and we could have a helluva good time and a bored meeting of Patterson, Fielding, Swan and Lane, Layabouts at Large and for Hire. I want to have a quorum so we can vote on a new member. I am proposing Dan Milner be added to the Bored of Defectors as a full padnuh. I have observed his technique and find his ability to layabout to be second to none. And his wife is, and possess', the appropriate amount of character to qualify as a spouse of a layabout. I knew she was right when he and I disappeared to do a little fishing, and she just gave us this "Boys and their toys" smirk. Mick |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: wysiwyg Date: 07 Jun 01 - 09:50 AM On those directions above that run along route 15 in Pennsylvania-- that's right past me, five minutes away. Whose gonna stop and pick me up (and meet Hardi and explain where I'se going)? And what link can I post in the LINKS section for this year and for people to use to watch for next year? Shall I just post the URL for this thread, there, for now? ~Susan |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Bill D Date: 07 Jun 01 - 11:46 AM you gonna GET nude, Fortunato?, or you just gonna hide in the bushes and take pictures like usual?... and Susan...I 'think' that there will be a new thread listinf plans & prices as dates approach for just this year...(since Ferrara lives right here, and will be doing the workshop schedule, I may have a tiny bit of influence in the matter...it would avoid this thread getting to 327 posts)( I can also go harass Charlie Baum, who is 15 minutes from me *grin*) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Charlie Baum Date: 07 Jun 01 - 05:24 PM Don;t worry about a links section sopeople can find it from year to year. Each year, a fresh thread will, no doubt, be created. Besides, the only reliable link would be to www.fsgw.org and then click on the Getaway. (The actual full URLs for the Getaway are subject to change from season to season and year to year.) --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 14 Jun 01 - 08:14 AM Marge and I have solid plans for attending. It truly is a musical and Mudcat highlight. I hope Big Mick can drag Patterson with him. And Mick, I know I haven't been around the Mudcat lately, but I want to lobby to be part of the layabout club. Rita, I would be happy to help out in the performance workshop end. Perhaps a workshop on funny songs. I will be going to Commonground in July and will take a workshop on Worksongs with Sparky Rucker and Bob Zentz. Perhaps I'll have a few ideas in that area as well. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: dick greenhaus Date: 14 Jun 01 - 06:03 PM Fortunato- That slogan read 1932. I invented it to plug the first New Lost City Rambler concert in New York, and we distributed over 2000 tags to people who wore them without the foggiest notioon of what it was all about. On t'other side was a stylized blue eagle (remember the NRA, anyone?) holing a banjo and a guitar with the cryptic acronym: NLCRA (or New Lost City Ramblers Admirer) There's a copy of the tag in the old New Lost City Ramblers songbook. 1935 wan't nearly as interesting to return to. |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Charlie Baum Date: 14 Jun 01 - 11:32 PM Thanks Lorraine-- MaryMac--what she said--you're welcome to show up on Saturday night whenever you can. My first Getaway came on a very busy weekend and I was only there from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday morning wee hours, but I enjoyd it thoroughly, and later went on to become a full-time person (and--gasp--this year's chairperson!). Lorraine--you could have waded through the detritus of our sewer-damp basement and logged on and used my cookie when you were over here earlier tonight, but I guess you didn't. --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: JedMarum Date: 08 Aug 01 - 10:45 AM Looks like I will be there! I am pretty excited about the opportunity and have been working out some of the travel details. Can non-members attend? I see the website says members and friends ... I have friends from MD area who are not members, but may be interested in attending. Also; when do people show up? Will most arrive on Fri night? |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2001-Which dates? From: Charlie Baum Date: 08 Aug 01 - 11:17 PM No requirement to be a member, though members receive a discount, and you can join when you register. Many people show up on Friday after leaving work; since people leave work in places from Virginia to Connecticut and beyond, arrival times may vary, but by 8:30 p.m. or so, there's always informal good music going on Friday night. Well, the registration form is complete, but the FSGW website is an experimental exercise in changeability, as we're slowly instigating a new system that takes the burden off of the webmaster and allows committee chairs to update their info. Try this link to see if it produces a Getaway registration form. I'll produce a formal Mudcat link later this week, along with the brochure information. --Charlie Baum
