Subject: Tommy Peoples's fiddle stolen in London
From: Valmai Goodyear
Date: 11 Sep 09 - 08:22 PM

I've just been told that Tommy's fiddle has been stolen from his car in London in the course of Friday 11th. September.

He has borrowed a fiddle to use on his tour to Lewes in Sussex and Littlebourne in Kent.

If anyone gets offered a fiddle for sale in suspicious circumstances, tell the police.

Valmai

(Yes, I know you shouldn't leave instruments in cars, but ...)

Some of Tommy's CDs were stolen at the same time.

check Ebay for those CDs, you might find that seller is also offloading a fiddle.

The fiddle has a crack between the right-hand peg holes (repaired, I should think, but recognisable).

Just to elaborate on Ralphie's post, this is the description as so far obtained by the Stolen Instrument Gallery on Facebook

"The fiddle was stolen out of the car which was parked about 200 yds from The Corner House Hotel, 201 Camden Rd
London, NW1 9AA. It was taken in the early hours of Friday morning, 11th September.

It was in a black rectangular composite case. In the inside pocket of the case were two St Martin relics/medallions, a red glass heart, two D'Addario strings and a box set of Helicore strings.

The fiddle has a split or crakc between the E and A tuning pegs. It also has an unusual brown composite chn rest, which you can see in the picture".

If you're on Facebook (or even if not - why not join?) here is the link to the Gallery for sight of the photos

Enormous thanks to Ed Rennie for co-ordinating the Stolen Instrument Gallery and taking the trouble to phone this morning for further and better particulars.

I must say that despite his loss Tommy gave a brilliant workshop and evening performance at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club, both events being sold out. The concentration and attention in the room were almost tangible. This comment has just arrived:

'Dear Valmai
Thank you both/all for organising such an amazing gig last night. Literally took my breath away a few times. Real traditional music, taking us to some other place. I drove home without putting any other music on and had his playing going on in my head till I went to sleep around 2.30 am. On a par with hearing Paddy Canny in Miltown 1995.
best wishes
Neil'

Tommy performs this evening at the Littlebourne Barn in Kent - there are tickets still available.

And this comment has just appeared on Facebook from Mandy Murray, who contributed a fine floor spot with Ben Paley:

'Hi Valmai, thanks for a very special evening.Tommy is a master and his music touches me very deeply.I was sad that I couldn't find him at the end of the evening to say hello.I had my daughter,Aisling with me and he played her favourite tune-The F...airest Rose-a beautiful air.She was so moved-she burst into tears !'
