Now if you go out the backdoor of the Mudcat Cafe, make a left down the alley, then turn right at Tiple Street...you find yourself here in the Mudcat Tavern. Yep, it's me, your friendly bartender Lonesome EJ.

Now Max knows about this place, in fact he's dropped in a few times for a cold one. That couple over in the corner sharing a bottle of Cabernet? That's Dick and Susan. You see, this is the kinda place where Mudcatters can come, relax, tell a story, cry on a shoulder, play a tune or two, and best of all... we've got the most extensive selection of beers, wines, liquers, single-malt Scotch, fine Kentucky bourbons, you just name it. Me, I'm working on a frothy pint of Guinness right now. And,shhhh!, look over in the corner. There's Gargoyle. He keeps drinking those Tequila Sunrises and threatening to play a tune on that old beat-up Gibson he's got leaning aginst the table. Mick and RiB said they might drop by for some tunes later, too.

Anyway, I'm glad you found the place. What'll ya have?

A tall cylinder of George Dickel's 12-year will do nicely. Thanks. If I slip you a fiver, would you ask that feller if he could sing a show tune, say, "I Feel Pretty"? I've been sittin' around the house and listening to Nina Simone and could use some cheering up.

Whatcha got on the jukebox, Leej? Sometimes I think I'd like to hear "May the Bird of Paradise Fly up Your Nose," but that's purely personal. Maybe something soothing like "You've Got a Friend." I'll have one tall High Sierra Light--or a Foster's, if you don't have the Sierra (Got hooked on the Sierra at Quinn's Lighthouse when Fadac bought me one--or was it Dave Swan bought the first one? Anyway, Fadac was drinkin' it and I told the waiter to bring me one of the same, and I know I didn't pay for it.)

What time does the open mike start? The stage is kinda small here, so I don't know what we'll do if my whole band shows up--maybe go in shifts, or I guess some of us could sit on the edge. We got some new tunes to play for you; they're good stuff, written by one of our band members. Anyway, I'd better sign us up. Where's the sheet?

Well helloooo there, Bartender. Make mine an amaretto sour and eeezz on the sour, sweetie. Did you say this was close to the Border Up North? I was lookin' for a friend of mine, actually two or three, guitar and banjo pickers, talk kinda funny? Have you seen them?

Too, I thought another friend was going to meet me here, from down the ole' Ohio, let's see he had a funny name, something about a feline foot or something?

How about tuning that guitar up and forget that Bernstein stuff, let's hear some old Hank Williams, darlin', how about "I'm so lonesome I could cry"? Course, I'm not really 'cause you all are here! Nice place ya got here, Mr. Lonesome. This could become a real hang out, ya know?

Been meaning to ask you, LEJ...where'd you ever find that wallpaper? I do believe that it is the only wallpaper I ever saw that had catfish on it. Sure dresses up the place. 'Course I like the log walls over yonder as well. Damn! I left my glasses in the car. Could you please tell me what the hell that thing is that's hanging over top of the stage?

Good news, Phoaks, drinks are on the house tonight. Seems that Bert forgot to close his credit card tab last night, so we'll just add em on.

Now that thing over the top of the stage... that Banjer's banjo. When he's sober he plays it pretty well, but after a couple Zima's we have to lever it up in the air out of reach. Keeps the crowd from leaving early, y'know.

Seed...the sign up sheet is that chalk board at the end of the bar. Put your name, who else will be playing, and which tunes. Sorry, no amplifiers tonight.

LEJ, I think he means the other thing up behind the stage. That there above the stage is a mudcatalope. Funniest thing you ever did see. I just stopped in for a Black and Tan, half Guinness and half Bass. The bartender here gave me a Half and Half instead, Guinness and Harp, and that'll do.

I was sittin in the far booth and I scratched a nail on the wall. I think the layers of soot tell the tail of this ol' joint. Got the light gray for the silver mining, dark for the coal, kind of brown for the cigarette smokers from the modern folk Beat days, a white from the salt of the maritime folk, and some sort of green gook from the Celtic folk. Interesting history here.

All this time LEJ and I thought I was the bartender… You better not be skimming the joint. Glad to share the burden, I'll be out here mingling with the crowd of fine folk, if you need me.

Funny thing about the Mudcat Tavern is that the open mic never stops, nor do you have to be Onstage. We got mic's all over the damn place, picks up just about everything. 'Fact, we got technology you ain't never seen before. Just go in a circle and make sure everyone gets his or her fare share of turns and everything works out.

I'll have another Black and Tan please sir, and how's about a shot of Irish Mist. Sshhhhh, Bill Sable's singin' one of his fine ditties. That's a real nice strap he's got, wonder where he got it? You say he makes them himself? I'll be a monkey's uncle, he's one talented SOB.

Jes, yet another night at the Mudcat….

Well Hey there ya'll...Just happened to be in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop in to see who all was here...Hello Allan, Kat, Seed, how ya all tonight? Leej set me up one them there Zimas you're talkin' about.

Say what? Oh, OK, if you insist let it down where I can reach it and we'll pick and sing for a while. But it seems like there was as many customers ran out before them Zimas as did afterwards.

What ya wanna hear? Just before I came over I was practising some "I'll Fly Away" and "Ole Joe Clark". Let's see if I can find them on this here neck. I know they was on the other one. Strum, strum, strum, strum, pick, pick, pick, strum, strum, strum, strum, pick......Yeah there it is.....OK here we go....Old Joe Clark's a fine old man...

Hi....sure glad you're still open tonight. It's been a really tough day today and I JUST got out of work. Nice to be here among friends and share some music and harmonies. Where'd that old harness come from hanging over there on the wall...never noticed it before. Banjer, what key did you say you were playing in? If you're playing in C, mind if I pick along on the Autoharp? D'ya want to try swinging right into "I'll Fly Away" after "Old Joe Clark"? I think I'll sit here beside KatL...looks a little down tonight......my singing will have to make her giggle!!

Well now ain't this a place. I don't get to these places too often now. Way too depressin' for a non smoking, nicotine addicted, Club Soda drinker. Lot's of fine folks here though so give me a big tumbler of that crap with a 3 chunks of lime......not the little "twists" Leej, big chunks so I can get the stuff down.

So who's got a good song or a funny tale? Aw geez, Banj you gotta' tune that thing again, give us a break here huh? Why don't you and Seed do us a duet....TWO banjos...IYIYIYIYIYIYIYI...What the hell am I thinkin'? Oh well......in for a penny........

Hey Leej,

Have I ever shown you my old Guild 12 string?? You got to listen to this beauty, man.........See that pretty woman from Belfast over in the corner.........Names Alison, lives in Oz now. I think I will go over and take this Guild and let it have its head on "The Hiring Fair"......"And all were dancing in the lantern light, and music filled the air and I thank the stars for the harvest moon.......and the girl from the hiring fair". Hey Rick, do me a favor? Play a 3/4 arpeggio in D, I'll play the interlude on the Low D. The song title is "Far From Their Home"...............................all right, some of the rest of you take a turn, I want to concentrate on the Fair One...........Leej, I need a proper jar of Uncle Arthur's (Guinness to the rookies among you) and a wine cooler for this fine looking woman here........Could someone do some blues that will make my head bob up and down? COULD I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION, PLEASE?????....MY NAME IS BIG MICK AND I THINK IT IS TIME FOR A GROUP HUG........GENTLEMAN, STEP TO THE REAR, PLEASE...THANK YOU.......Lord, but I love this place.............

I think I'll have vodka, toimato juice and Jello; that's a BLOOD CLOT.

Next I'll try Vodka & Milk of Magnesia --- a PHILLIP'S SCREWDRIVER. If you won't make that try taking a mockingbird and putting it in 3 fingers of tequilla. TEQUILLA MOCKINGBIRD's are quite tasty.

Matter o' fact, I'll buy a round for the house! What, no takers?

Hey Art......just don't hang here too long, I think you're "needed" at a couple of other places. Must be hell to be so popular!!!

Art, watch that stool you're sitting on. If you keep spinning on it like that the top will come right off. See I told you Max was a regular here- four black and tans and I guarantee he spends the night in the bean bag chair. Catspaw, I can't change a hundred dollar bill on a damn club soda so I guess you're buying a round for everybody. Let's see Max is snoring, Art has the Blood Clot- double Stolichnaya again, Art? Ok- Mick has a Guinness, Alan C the Dickels, Katlaf's got the Amaretto Sour (ouch!),Craig C the Rum n Coke...is that it? Are you drinking Nightowl Darlin? And where did Gargoyle go? Did he leave or go to the john? If he left he forgot his guitar.

Catspaw, I had some relatives of yours and Rick's in here this afternoon. They drank me out of MD 20/20 and sloe gin and then offered to mop the floor and do dishes to pay. The two Canadian guys kept going "EH? EH?" and I told them if they didn't wear those damn hats with the ear flaps, they'd be able to hear what the two Hillbillies were trying to tell them. At any rate, I forgot to lock the back door and they slipped out, but said they would see you at your place for dinner. If those guys are relatives, why don't you try to get them on your dental plan?

Hey Seed, check out Big Mick chasing Alison around that table. Last time this happened, her old man came in and bopped him with a boomerang.

Oh and Allan, I almost forgot. That Catfish wallpaper is one-of-a-kind. It was actually created by fadac using a big channel cat he yanked out of Possum Creek. He pasted butcher paper on the wall, opened four cans of different color paint, and used the old "dip and press" technique to create those images. Stunning,EH?

Aw geez, now I understand............Those two peckerwoods and their Canajun' buddies showed up and ate several helpings each of Eggplant Parmesan and then cleaned me outa' possum jerky. I could have lived with it, but about 5 minutes later they were all in the downstairs bath and, well..........Karen told me to get them to hell out of the house so I loaded them in the van and dropped them all at the Sewage treatment plant. Paw had 'em all convinced that the gurgling and bubbling sounds would be soothing and help them feel better. They'll probably be sleeping there in the morning, the Sheriff will be called, then I'll be called. Screw the whole bunch of them...I'm not answering the friggin' phone.

I gotta' go....Karen's probably mad as hell that I left her with that mess so I'll be payin' some dues for that.

Seed and Banj...you did a fine job. Alright everybody, let's give them the support, the recognition, the cheers, the Clap they deserve.

G'nite All & Thanks---I'm feelin' right fine, even if it's only Club Soda. Must be the friends. Somebody kick Max in the ass and tell him thanks.........and Leej, nice spot here, good job. Night All.

On second thought, forget the singing, and wake me in the morning. It's been a long time since I've had a whole six-pack at once. ZZZZZZ......

Hey Mick,

I brought my Guild, too. I'll do you Leadbelly's "Good Mornin' Blues". That should get your foot a'tappin'. I play the bass runs using a G chord formation, but I usually capo up to the third fret to match my voice. I guess that makes it in Bb.

Well, Bseed probably doesn't have a harp in that key. No matter, I'm feelin' generous tonight, so I'll capo up another notch, into B (takes some of the ring out of the 12 string, though). I expect Bseed can cover it now.

I'm just drinking water with no ice (easier on the voice and I intend to be singing). I hear LEJ has a new cook making up a Chicken Fajita for me. Better wash my hands before and after eatin'.

Well, folks, I'm wipin' tables & tossin' empties, so we'll be ready when you drop by later. I don't play & I don't do more than sing along, so I asked Max & Lonesome if they could use a barmaid. I'll bring you the right drinks fast and with a smile. I know the regulars, but you new folks are welcome, too. I've got a hug for any who need 'em. I might even sit on a lap or two, if you're really down in the dumps. On my break, I'll have a glass of white wine at the corner table & chat with Craig about his lady. Good times come and go, but good friends last. Just one thing, boys, would you mind keeping your smoking to the back room? When I can't see through the air, my allergies *do* kick up! Hope to see you soon & I'll join in on the choruses.

What's that Joe? You want the words to that one? Well, I thought you could look it up in the DT. Oh! You already checked it out with your lap top? Not there, huh? I'm surprised Max would let the site even operate without that one there. Well, here goes.

Good Morning Blues
by Huddie Ledbetter (AKA Lead Belly)

Late last night, turning from side to side,
Oh, oh, turning from side to side.
I was not sick, I was just dissatisfied.

Woke up this mornin', blues walkin' 'round my bed.
Hm, Hm, blues walkin' 'round my bed.
I went for my breakfast, found the blues all in my bread.

I said, "Good mornin' blues, blues how do you do?"
Good mornin' blues, blues how do you do?"
"I'm doin' all right, good mornin' how 'bout you?"

Takes a brown skin woman make a moon-eyed man go blind.
A brown skin woman make a moon-eyed man go blind.
But a chestnut woman will make you change your mind.

I just happened to be passing by, out wandering when I heard the din coming from inside, a few strains of old melodies that sounded so sweet, so I figured I'd just hang out here in the parking lot and kick a few gravels with my foot while I listened....when damned if I didn't think I spotted an old Mercury that Neal Cassady used to drive. You remember what Neal's wife said about his idea of heaven...an old car and a girl.... If memory serves, he was originally from around these parts, if I am where I think I am. I get easily confused these days. This looks like a place that would fit him like a well worn suit. ....anyway I thought I'd just pop in for a moment...maybe I'd see Neal's ghost back there waiting for his father, shooting pool with Kerouac.... bbc, is there anything to eat? You know if Kerouac were in here he'd be eating. Seems like he was always hungry. I can almost see him sitting at that table by the window, crumpled and dirty, gathering himself together after having emerged from that boxcar on the railroad tracks out back. He had a way of describing a sumptuous feast of beans and cornbread washed down with gallons of black coffee as if it were a night of exquisite lovemaking.

Could I just sit at this table by the window for a moment? I can't stay long. Oh hell, while I'm here could you bring me some Beam on the rocks...no, scratch that, I'm in the mood for Austin Nichols Wild Turkey, 101 proof. Kerouac just went back for seconds, and he's talking that stream-of-consciousness stuff like his life depended on it. And if someone could play that "Good Mornin' Blues" they were talking about earlier, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, love...

Now, Mick, about those Fertility rites; it might be ya need ta coom back with me to the Temple for a bit more instruction in the Art of Finesse. Yes, Art, ya did a good job, but I think he needs a littl' reinforcement! Oh, and where in the Temple Handbook did it say brass bikinis were allowed?? Aiieeee! No wondering Alison was givin' him whatfor! I thought we women were the only ones allowed to wear any Xena-like intimates!

Well, bbc, another for me would be good. Darn computing has got the ole' muscles tight, again. Damn, don't you people ever go home?! Hey I'M JOKING. These shrimp are amazingly tasty, especially the horseradish/Pickapeppa/Louisiana Hot dipping sauce. Guess I'd better shift to a lager for cooling purposes. In fact, this St Pauli will do VERY nicely.

Steve Parkes, this is your lucky day cause I found one pint can of Joule's in the cellar. Put that Brit money away- it's no good here.Right, it's on Bert. Whew! This place is hoppin. bbc can you take this extra large pizza with anchovies over to Mick, but tell him we're fresh out of raw oysters? Thanks. Ready for another Metaxas, RZ? Who the heck's driving you home anyway?

Neil, funny you should mention Cassady and Kerouac. You know this place wasn't always the Mudcat. Used to be called the Minor Key in the late 50's and early 60's, and those boys would sit in a booth and listen to the be-bop jazz we used to have here, and eat about 3 pounds of onion rings and endless beer with whiskey backers. Sometimes, some nights, some of our patrons still see them, and the old dark green Merc that Neal drove. Cassady carved his initials on the wood pillar over in the corner there. Here, buddy, here's another Turkey rocks.

Peter T, you just want a beer? You know we've got everything here. Try some of this stuff from Iceland that Skarpi left last time he was here.

Hey, Sheye. I got a free one for you- anything you want. Shula left it on the Free Drink Board for you. She said for the old times.

Annap, this is the last of the Tanqueray. You want Boodle's after this? Oh,OK, I'll send Cletus after some more Tanquray.

Den, it's gonna take another 40 minutes on all those Guinnesses. Gotta pull em right y'know.

Animaterra, you got a Smith's Oatmeal coming. You want ice cold or cool?

That got everybody? Oh, almost forgot- Please, EVERYONE. Can I have your attention. Just one toast for a good friend, The Shambles, and for all the others that can't be here. God bless you, and may you be in Heaven five minutes before the Devil knows you're dead. Slainte.

When it gets LATE, I may be inclined to close my eyes, put away the 'harp and sing "The Twa Corbies", "Love is Teasin" or "Lucy Wan".....

We have the SeanM Light Lager, refreshing with a guaranteed grin in every pint. We have the BillDee Belgian Ale, for those who like a little spice in their beer. Or try Alice's Montana Real Pilsner, goes good with the Buffalo Wings. For the connoisseurs of traditional English Bitters, we have the Bert's Best, a mellow and friendly potion. Wow, this is Flower's? What is it... brown ale, porter? You say the label came off the barrel. Good anyway. I wonder where this comes from. Ask one of them Limeys that comes in here, would you.

Talking about Limeys, I hear them Beatles are getting back together again. No, I didn't hear who they're gonna get to play the harmonica, maybe that Julian kid. He don't play the harmonica? Ok, scratch Love Me Do and put in Harry Chrishna Everybody instead.

j0_77,

BOTTLE OF WINE it is. I think I can remember the verses. They may not be in order, but I think they will all be there. I can tell some of us aren't gonna notice one way or the other.

Sorry, LEJ, I don't know any Richard Thompson. I wish I did. And I wouldn't mind having some of his guitar skills to go with them.

Hey you guys,

Can't you let us Aussies get some sleep over here - partying all night and yahooing and carrying on. Well, I'm up and awake now so I'm joining in. I haven't had a chance to go round and say hi to everyone yet or to see everything that's happening but I think Havard knows a song that Mick maybe oughta take notice of - if we can get Havard to drop by. I can see Mick holding Alison in a bear hug preventing her from playing that whistle of hers, and I just heard her old man was on the way to sort things out with Mick. Never mind Mick, just sing this Dubliners song: I loved the ground she walked upon and your Celtic heart will be soothed, although your problem won't be solved.

I goota' head out...I'm still on the meds from the shrink after that hideous nightmare about me and RiB and Mick and Rick at Moonchild's party..uh, there's no marshmallow creme hear is there????

Damn, but it was one helluva' day......Like I figured I had to go bail out Paw, Cletus, Buford, and the Reg triplets. The Reg boys have to stay in slam til the Canadian rep brings copies of their work permits to the sheriff.

It was like I figured but worse. They had to break down the gate to get "closer to the bubbling and burbling" at the Sewage Treatment Plant and sure enough they were still asleep there in the morning! They got charged with B&E, Trespass, and 2 counts each for destruction of property...one for the gate and another for killing the grass where they slept!!! Honest to gawd, they KILLED THE GRASS AT A SEWER PLANT!!!!!.........'Course it gets worse........I GOT CHARGED, yep......since I dropped them off, they charged me with 6 counts of "Contributing to the Stupidity of an Idiot."

I gotta' get on to the house. Promised Karen I'd stay home and keep "the Boys" from stopping by. I dunno' where they're off to now, but Lord knows they're OFF.

Long day at work...tired....strolling around, turned a corner...warm sounds, warm feelings, COLD BREW!!!? LEJ, kindly pour me a Black and Tan...Hello Skarpi, I've wanted to meet you for a long time...Here's my Taylor 510C, with which I'd like to try out a verse of a new song I've recently written...Catspaw will probably identify with some of this, here goes...

I sat beside the Mohican River
Beneath the shade of the covered bridge,
There watched the deepening flames of autumn,
Burned there on that towering ridge.

I heard the cooling water running,
Among the rocks upon its flow,
There reveled in the silent secrets,
That only hills and rivers know.

I stood beside the trees of autumn
I stood there in the sun and rain
Then looked out on the hills of Ohio,
And never looked at life the same...

Okay, enough for now, maybe another verse later if you all want one...time for a drink EJ..WHERE'S THAT BREW???

Well, MAG, I was actually talking about the drink, but also handing one of the guys a line, which none of them picked up on.**BG** The song I knew had some words, "Honey let me be your salty dog". The drink, if I remember right, was vodka and grapefruit juice, with a rim of salt around the top of the glass. Vile stuff, ugh...mainly talking 'bout the song.

Jeri, a better version I've never heard!

And, PaulG., those are beautiful words! Let's hear another verse, eh?

Angus, darlin', whats yer favourite kinda dancing? I think you've got plenty o'willing partners.

How about a little of Steve Tilston's "Slip Jigs and Reels"?

Chorus:

And he did like the ladies, the rise and the fall
of their ankles and dresses out on the dance floor
And rollin' the dice and spinnin' the wheel
But he took most delight in the slip jigs and reels.

I'm gonna have a Yuengling Porter... oldest extant brewery in America. Hey, Lonesome, what's that mean - extant. Hey, get outa here!

Hey, Lonesome, what's that screaming I hear? Are they still whopping little Buford? Excuse me...

Hey, Skarpi, I just found this brown trout on the floor under your seat. I think it may have fell out of your back pocket. What's that? Hekla's about to blow her top. My old lady too! She's going to her folks house for the weekend. What's that? No, nothing I said... something I ate. It think it was the chili I had for breakfast. Hey, who asked for raw onions anyway?

Say, Lonesome, what does the EJ stand for. Frank McGrath says it stands for EJit. What's that? You don't think that's funny. I don't either, Lonesome, I only said it 'cause I was trying to get Frank into trouble. Your big brother used to call you EJit when you were little. What's his name, Liam? His name is Liam! Figures.

So who was it got 86'd today. Somebody says it was Sandy Paton. I haven't seen him around for awhile. I talked to Caroline today but I didn't say nothing. Yeah, musta been Sandy. Hey, Lonesome, I gotta go home and make a jury text of Child 83. The guys at work want me to sing it at the afternoon coffee break song swap tomorrow. Take care, buddy.

Hey, bbc, nice job. I got the late shift if you need sack time. But listen- I don't want anybody else slipping out into the alley with Art! I don't know what y'all are doing back there but- Hey! Fuzzy guy... I knew you'd be back, and I'm happy to honor your request for a round on your bankroll. Here's your Waterford Cream. If you leave, don't forget your guitar. If you stay, why don't you play us a song that means something to you.

Hey Max, let's throw a little Blues combo together. Seed and I could play harp, maybe you, RiB and Fielding on guitar. Who can do some vocal?

Angus, I got some Glenfiddich Single Malt if you want. Rocks? Somebody keep an eye on Katlaughing, she's had about 9 amaretto sours and keeps talking about taking some imaginary "dog" for a walk- did she go out in the alley with Art or what?

Don't let Banjer borrow that ladder! You know what happened last time!

Now... I've kept this stuff under lock and key, but tonight's the night. This stuff is called Down's #9. It's blended at Down's Pub in Waterford, and you'll not taste a better Irish Whiskey. They say it has magic in it. They say that those who drink a toast in it will be blessed in friendship, and that it has the power to heal. Everybody belly up and take a shot glass. Let us raise them to Max, our host, who built this fine establishment. Let us raise them to the Spirit of Music, that she will abide with us. And let us raise them to each other, that through friendship and mutual care and respect, all obstacles shall be overcome. Slainte! Let's have some music!

Fadac (with screwed-up mien) Verily, 'tis like the water of a northbound warthog.

Dai Shall I get you one in then?

Exeunt to bar, where much change-fumbling ensues. Singing of 'The Beverly Maid and the Tinker' begins, which clashes horribly with all the polkas, Steve Tilston and blugrass which has suddenly struck up.

Well hello! I found this flyer out on the sidewalk for "Fadac's Fabulous Night of International Polka". This is the place right? But I've gotta tellya, for a real norwegian country dance flavor, you're gonna have to serve "karsk":(tastes about as good as it sounds) put a coin in a cup, fill with coffee till you can't see the coin, add 180 proof norsk moonshine till you can see the coin again, skål!. You've gotta find a source for the real stuff from Norway though, that way the coin's gone by the time you drink up...Who me? No, I'll help ruffle the feathers on that big bird someone mentioned, an unopened bottle of 'Grouse? that's a crime against humanity, or this human at least. And awayayay we go - uh-one-uh, uh-two-uh

Ohhh me head. I feel like I have two heads this morning. Hey lonsome do you have enough aspirin for two heads. Maybe I should have the hair of the dog. Speaking of dogs where did Kat get to with mine? I'm sorry I missed seed he had a whale of a tale to tell about Annalong harbour, which incidently has the most dangerous bar in the world. The pub is right on the quay and the front door is about 12 feet from the edge. So if you take a wide turn coming out the door you'll find yourself threading water. Anyway your open early today and everyone is in fine voice for this unGodly hour...they're still here from last night. I'll be over here in the corner...where's me spoons...

Hey guys, just popped my head round the door (the attendants are waiting in the clinic bus with the engine running), to say Steve Parkes complained on another thread that no-one was insulting him. Wait till he comes in wearing what he's wearing in the Mudcat picture gallery and give him this voucher for the Eddie Grundy boutique for the sartorially challenged.
OK, I'm going, you don't have to throw beer mats.
[You don't know how lucky you all are I don't have a digital camera or scanner!]

The clinic let me out to tell this tale which Den's post reminds me:
Some years ago I went with wife & in-laws to a rugby match in Paris. We ,England, lost but we consoled ourselves with a good meal in a tiny backstreet restaurant. When we rose (with difficulty) to leave, the table groaning with empty bottles, I volunteered to get the coats. I opened the cupboard door where I had seen them hung and stepepd to space in...it was the top of the steep steps down to the cellar!
[and very close to Montmatre Cemetary!]

Fortunately a Frenchman, hoarse from shouting at the match, with whom we had been having a bilingual (+sign language) discussion during the meal, realised what was about to happen, grabbed my arm and dragged me back from the brink. A great shout went up from the regulars and my family were puzzled as I joined them on the pavement outside, still shaking!
My whole life had flashed before me- and very boring it was too, I resolved to get out more!
Well if the horses at Ascot do their stuff tomorrow, the next round will be on me.
tara a bit.

I got entranced by all the hubub I forgot I was hungry. I'll stick to the liquid nourishment for now, thanks bbc. If I can't stand it any more I'll just get some of the pickled eggs off the bar.....

Big crowd in here now, can't stir them with a stick...nice place you got here by the way, and popular too, from the looks of things....more music and laughter in one place than I've seen in a long time....

Animaterra, the only version of "Candyman" I'm familiar with in my limited experience is the one I've heard the Dead do:
"I come in from Memphis where I learned to talk the jive;
If I get back to Memphis, there'll be one less man alive." Funny you should mention that, I just happened to be playing along with that song the other day. I think I'm ready for another Turkey rocks, thank you. And jeez, the liquor that flows in this place! I love it! LEJ, you might consider hiring some help.

I'll sip my bourbon and keep my ears open....

.........So's anyway the Aussie sez, "If it's anything like a kangaroo, we will need the room".......... (room explodes with laughter) Alright folks, nuff of the jokes, back to the music........Hey Fielding, get away from that Guild, I have had it for 30 years. (someone comes in through the door) ......What the hell was that, when he opened the door? What, Kat? Light? Like from the sun? Time for the fertility rites? What the hell do you think I have been trying to practice all night? First I have to fight off Joe O., then that damn Alan and his big stick with beer bottle caps all over it. I thought he was trying to scale me. That damn thing looked like a 5' fish scaler when I was a kid. Then some crazy fella with a Belfast accent hollerin something about his Missus and calling me a lump. Sweet Jazus, FAIR ONE, but you have a legion of admirers. I guess I don't blame them, but I am going to have to get in much better shape. Hey Animaterra, WyoWoman, Helen, Jo.......come on over here.............Big Mick hug time........Ah hell, Rick, 'Spaw, RiB, come on over, let's share some good feelings...........Shambles show up yet? No? Don't worry he will, and we will do this again. Come on bbc......LEEJ, PUT DOWN THE DAMN TOWEL AND GIT OVER HERE..........Anyone seen Barry lately? How about Sandy and Caroline.........COME ON, PHOLKS, I HAVE TO GO TO WORK............What, don't worry Fair One, I will say goodbye to you personally in a minute........

Well, since all I've been doing here is drinking beer, everyone hold on, and if Joe is working his customary magic, this whole tavern is going to move to Round 2, so that people who have slower machines can party too. Everyone holding on to their tables? Mick holding on to the Fair....LEJ? Joe, can you transport everyone in the blue clickly thing NOW!
yours, Peter T.

I usually bring my own refreshments (Those of us who were brought up in the mountains usually prefer home-made). And being rather withdrawn, I'll lurk around on the periphery--but I'm really having a hell of a time. I've got the 5-string in the truck, and I might even join in after a period of quiet adjustment. This is right nice, ain't it?
