Subject: BS: Need some extra 'oomph' thoughts, please
From: katlaughing
Date: 07 May 12 - 01:39 PM

For various reasons, I have been struggling with depression, whilst waiting on a procedure which will help the cause.

I dislike asking for help, but a friend, again, reminded me it's okay to ask friends, so please, if you've a mind to, add me to your good thoughts, etc. I know my Rog would appreciate it, too. As the brunt of all this he catches a lot of whiney-titty-baby stuff.:-)

As ever, thanks a bunch.

Richard, I am heartened, but do you remember was it Wave of Sorrow? I've really only got that one and one about Colorado. Thanks for letting me know!

Three auld wifies sittin on a waa
haudin on each tae the ither
Incase wan should fa
They each pull oot their pill box
the contents to compare
and aw the young fowk passin by
were seen tae stop and stare
but in our hearts we are the lassies
who used to dance and sing
whose joyous lilting laughter
could make the wild birds sing
But in our hearts we are still the lassies
who went coortin in the park
and sneekit hame in the mornin
tae the singin o the lark.

Here you go, kat.... :0) The final piece of music, the intro to it, is just wonderful!

Brule at Mount Rushmore - A Concert for Reconciliation

And...both The Guardian and The Daily Mail over here have both done stories saying how James Anaya from the UN has said that stolen land should be returned to the Native Americans, including the sacred sites, such as Mount Rushmore....

ALSO, Japan has closed down it's final nuclear power station today, turning away from that form of deadly power forever...AND...Germany has banned fracking!

So, The Good Guys are arriving by the bucketload, kat...

Oh..and tomorrow is the very first ever National Day to remember all the Native Americans who have been massacred...The FB 'share' photo for tomorrow...

And AND, as if all of that wasn't enough to cheer you up, Chief Oren Lyons has 'officially' arrived in Facebook, writing on his own page!!! I am now SUCH a Happy Bunny! :0)

Oren Lyons - Faithkeeper - Facebook page

I really hope your smile comes home again soon, kat...Big hugs until it finds its' way back to you. :0) x

Lots of love headed your way , just wait a sec and I'll lob it over the mountains.

My once a month pick me up comes along tomorrow in the form of a local open mic. Try to find one near you and get out on stage.

Here's a song, might cheer you up a little...

I wanna have a mid life crisis
but if the truth be told
I can't have a mid life crisis
My wife says I'm too old

I wanna drive a bright red sports car
with a pretty young blond for a date
I wanna have a mid life crisis
My wife says it's too late
She said
I coulda had a crisis at Forty
        or even at Fifty Five
If I'd wanted a mid life crisis
I should have done it while I'm still alive

I want a pick up truck with monster wheels
I want to be stacked up with sex appeal
I want tatoos on my arms and chest
A Harley and a black leather vest
I want to let my hair grow long
I want to get to Nashville with this song
I want a Cowboy hat and belt and boots
I want a hand tailored white silk suit

I wanna have a mid life crisis
but if the truth be told
I can't have a mid life crisis
My wife says I'm too old

I wanna drive a bright red sports car
with a pretty young blond for a date
I wanna have a mid life crisis
My wife says it's too late
She said
I coulda had a crisis at Forty
        or even at Fifty Five
If I'd wanted a mid life crisis
I should have done it while I'm still alive

I wanna drive a bright red sports car
with a pretty young blond for a date

Spoken:
I don't think my wife would go for the blond
But how about a sports car?

When I was in my teens I helped an elderly lady across the street. She told me she was in her nineties. Shook her head as we passed some girls jumping rope and said a bit wistfully "You know in my mind I can still do that."

Keriste, I'd have posted before now but I thought the thread title was '. . . extra oompha thoughts' and I couldn't figure out what it was doing in BS and not above the line in music, and oompha music reminds me of irritating noise with a tempo-ed discipline.

Stress is a great contributor to depression. Witness the economy. Capitalist bastards took a chunk of the money out, spread it among their friends, stressed the world's finances and poof, depression.

Riding on a road in Alberta on the way to a MVC and the Rescue truck hit a big dip in the road, and poof, depression.

BUT, there's a reason it's called a depression and not a never-ending glide to madness: there is an upside on the way. Hold that thought, Kat.

Thank you, everyone! For the laughs, love, etc. I was able to go for an osteopathic treatment today which was helpful.

Also, I called the insurance co. again to see if they really did expedite the approval for the eye-rawn I need.:-) Surprise and thankfullness. They did and I am scheduled for this Friday at 11a. All should be much improved a couple of days later barring any allergic reactions. I will take a benadryl before just in case. I feel nervous, don't know why...I don't mind needles, though 3-4 hours could get a bit tedious. Maybe I'll take the laptop.

Thanks, so much. I'm off for a nap, now.

The great Sid Caesar had this story. He said(paraphrasing here...), " I had EVERYTHING, a hit T.V. show, I could buy any car, point at a house and it would be mine, but I wasn't "HAPPY."

"I met a friend who gave one simple direction. If you put your thoughts on "HAPPY" that will be your experience. If you let your mind drift to that which reminds you you are depressed, then THAT happens."

Ridiculously simple, but watch a funny film, PLAY with some kids, DO something good for somebody else, the direction of your thought HAS to change. You CANNOT be depressed while laughing. Unless of course, you are BONKERS...LOL...:0)

The expression, "he has lost his mind," is quite apropos.. For ME, that means you GAVE UP the CHOICE as to which thoughts YOU LET your mind entertain. It's not the wife or lack of one who is to blame. Nor is it your SITUATION. It's all YOU.

Kat, anger and depression are very much the same thing, except anger going out, is just anger, usually mixed with frustration..depression, is anger turned inward, with a sense of hopelessness.
Anger, can be an addiction, to satisfy your receptors(in the nervous system)...much like fear, or lusts....lose the anger with your will, and discipline...before long, you can break the addiction. Re-channel, that energy, into your music. It can come out in several different ways, such as love, fun, something spiritual etc etc... The results just might NOT make you very angry..or the people around you!..The frustration and hopelessness will subside....but remember, art for therapy might be good therapy, but might not be great art. That's where 'craft' comes in.
I honestly wish you the VERY best....turn that unrequited passion into a masterpiece!!!!!!!

Highest Regards!!!

GfS

Hope the injections have you up and bouncing around like the wee lambs i passed on my way to town this morning.

Here I was a day ahead of myself. The infusion will be tomorrow, as in Friday!

Thank you, Megan, I really DO appreciate your comments.

GfS, I understand the psychological and metaphysical quite well, as does the therapist I go to when I feel a need. The depression is not ongoing; it comes from some problem which arises. I love myself and am not angry at myself. Any anger comes with things over which I have no control. I will not go into any more on the subject. Thank you for your best wishes and, now, please do NOT turn this thread into one of those types of threads in which you go back and forth until the true purpose of the thread is lost. Thank you.

To the rest of you, thanks, very much.

Kat, good luck with that treatment. Did they offer a reason why this might be needed - a dietary omission, etc? Is it something you can prevent in the future? Taking iron supplements too often can cause constipation, but once or twice a week should help the blood without binding up the bowels.

I cannot take the tabs,SRS, and they would take too long to build up. One of my kidneys is tiny with little blood flow, probably from birth and the other one has been trying to take up the slack all of my life, apparently. I didn't have any trouble until I did the Atkins high protein diet. The docs believe it had a deleterious effect. (I'd done it for a few months, losing 50lbs, but I do NOT recommend it.)

The kidneys produce something, can't remember what, which helps to make red blood cells. When they don't do that as well as should be, one may become anaemic. Anyway, it's a balancing act between protein, sodium, and medicine which help the kidneys out.

I feel apprehensive, though I also feel all is well. I have been looking forward to it as I know I will feel better, though it will take 3 or 4 more sessions. I just hope to get some sleep tonight OR while there as I am taking a benadryl and alprazolam (xanax) before going there.:-)

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts, folks.

I'm crying right now for the kindness of you for checking in.

It went well in that I showed no allergy symptoms, so far. The first nurse was a bit of a prat. Seemed as if all she cared about was the bare minimum..left a lot to be desired including having to start an IV line in the bend of each elbow and having one bleed out and the other one she pulled the needle out of a little sheath too soon, so tried to wiggle a "limp dick" sheath into my arm! LOL.

Then along came sweet, sweet Anya who got one started bingo on the top of my forearm so no bending to be worried about; handed me the tv/nurse call control and the chair control AND put an extender on the O2 line, so I didn't have to drag a bottle into the bathroom with me as I'd had to when the other gal was there and made sure I knew she thought I was a slacker. Well guess what? I get to request Anya next time and shall!

That will be next Friday, along with an echo-cardiogramn, the the following two Fridays and that should do it. It won't be so scary next time now that I know what to expect.

Thanks, again, everyone.

Glad to hear that, Bert.<:0

I had a fairly good night's sleep and felt very calm this morning before and after about half way through the echo. I had to lie in a very uncomfortable position on my left side. Even with my own memory foam pillow, I developed a major headache. I've never had a migraine, but this sounded like. I was in excruciating pain. We bought some lunch which was awful, then went back for the IV Iron, but it was not happening. The nurse took one look at me and asked me if i'd like to postpone. I did. Could not get out of there fast enough and home to bed. I am reschedule for the second iron infusion next Thursday. I slept from when we got home, 1130a, off and on, until almost 7p!

Thank you, very much.

lol, bERT! tHANKS, AGAIN, TO YOU STEADFAST FRIENDS. This is really the first time I've been out bed and stayed up for anything length of time today and a lot of yesterday. The headache from Nurse Ratched came back from hell...she even tried to get me toss my breakfast, a very benign smoothie. Called the doc on call, with my history of sensitivities to meds, he said to go back bed, take two heat packs and call him in the morning...well, not literally, but that's he meant to say! It has helped. I don't remember the last time I had a headache like that, the Tylenol I used was like a spitball at Goliath.

I have an appt. with my osteopath tomorrow afternoon. I am sure she will be able to help with an adjustment.

There's some other stuff, but that'll do for now. Depression keep rising but the therapist wants me to wait until after the next inusfion on Thursday, then i'll see my doc on friday get the results of the echo by then. If my heart shows up a happy camper after all the mauling I went through, I'll be pleased regardless. I'm trying to keep "in the pink, on the road to wellville" in my mind!

There are a couple of headache types that Doctors often don't tell you about.

One is the hangover that you didn't earn headache, that can be caused by a lack of B vitamins.

Another is the odd time of day for no specific reason headache which can be caused by a lack of protein.

Missed this thread when it first appeared (am trying to get "caught up" on Mudcat after not partaking for 3-4 weeks).

Kat, I've long admired how generous and supportive you are to so many others on Mudcat. And I suffered from low iron once and remember how very hard it was to keep going...

You are an inspiration to many of us on here; I hope things are on the upswing for you from here on in.

Hugs and 'ooooomph' abounding,

Kat, we're still keeping you in our thoughts. Get all the rest you can. The Tylenol that works for my headaches is the Tylenol migraine or the generic equivalent, even though they aren't migraines. They combine acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine so they aren't so easy on the stomach, but they do kick the headache.

Thanks, folks for your kind words and suggestions. The osteo manipulated that twisted neck & preztel contorted shoulder of mine and the headache has been gone since, but then the cardio called after looking at the echo. It wasn't grim, but Rog and I both have some work to do (eating and walking-wise) if I want to be around much longer, but then, of course, docs have to "lay it on the line." I am working with a healer, have you all to help out with such generosity, and my Rog and grandson, Morgan, to give me an immediate boost. I love it, when Morgan came in this morning, he knew serious stuff has been going on. We've always talked of how I'll always be here, in some form, for him, even when I die. I reminded him of that, today. Have gave me a nod, looked me right in the eyes and said, Um-hum, I know mama, then gave me a big hug.. He is an old soul.

I was thinking about having told my cardio I still have three more books to get published. Then, this morning I thought about starting a "What's your greatest achievement?" thread, but didn't. If I had , it would be writing my books, but before that or anything else, it would whatever hand I've had in shaping Morgan's life having been in it from the start. Other than Life, I'd say that's the great gift I've ever received, too.

I will be around, just taking it easy until we're done with the iron infusions. Please remember I do appreciate all you say and do.

Thanks, CL! I forgot to say if anyone knows an expert seamstress to please send them to the surgeon who put in the metal aortic valve to show him how it's done. Apparently it is not that uncommon for the skin to not heal quite as much as they'd like over the stitches, so there is leaking just as there was before that big, nasty surgery took place! (Last year I thought the cardio was joking when he said there may be a loose stitch or two!)I am over being angry and there's something else going on which is just as dicey, life-wise, but nothing of "immediate" concern. So, we're good to go once I've got the iron topped off.

I am filling up with Light, Life and Love and so happy you all are part of it!

Seamstress? Tailor? If my meme and pepe were still alive . . . among other things, they ran a haberdashery. I hardly remember my pepe, but my meme could do anything with a needle and thread. Mom wasn't as skilled, and I'm far less so. Maybe you need to ask one of the people on the sewing machine/quilting thread!

I'd be more than happy to teach penmanship to doctors, though! Most of them need it!

That's one of my fav. scenes, Bert. Thanks.

I feel kind of numb, right now. Some important things seem to be worse, now, than they were last year, health-wise, yet alternatives may involve needing to go away to a a major uni-hospital, etc. We are going to try getting me back on track with the juicing, meds, and a few other things. Thank goodness, our primary care doc is an internal pro and does not think the specialists here are all "god." Looks like, now, another thing to start looking into is funding, what the ins. co will cover, what else I may qualify for, etc. UUUggghhhh, I'll I want to do is lie down, sleep, then get my books finalised. In stead it's doc visits, test, grandson two weeks until 1/2 day summer school, then half days.

You are such a loyal & caring friend to Ann & myself, it grieves us to hear that you are struggling with depression. There is little we can do to help from a practical point of view, but we love you very much & based on personal experience, we know, unequivocally, there is light at the end of a 'tunnel called depression'. Don't forget, whatever the weather, the sun is always shining...the clouds just get in the way. Will send you a PM with more personal stuff which might help with that 'lift' you are seeking.

hi Kat,

You don't know me. I'm a sometime lurker on mudcat really, only contribute a little, and have been for the last 10 years or more, and I always so appreciate your part in making mudcat the place it is. You come across as a very warm, very wise, and very smart individual! Anyhow, just sorry to hear that things are being tough for you at the moment.

Here is a song for you (not written by me, I hasten to add!) but the best I can offer by way of a 'hope you feel better soon' kind of present whilst simply sitting at my keyboard... I like the 'But the sun will swing the seasons, And ever win the day' line.

GOOD INTENTIONS (Paul Metsers)

It's one day we'll go sailing
Oh you, my love, and I
We'll take us down to the water
Where fair the waters lie

   And then, with good intentions
We'll try our debts to pay
But the sun will swing the seasons
   And ever win the day

Then one day we'll go climbing
Come closer to the stars
And hope that those in spaceships
Will leave them as they are

And one day we'll start building
We'll use what comes to hand
We'll join what comes together
And bind what needs a band

Our Dear Kat, assuming we're still around in ten years time, a photo or two would be good too. Graduations are (usually!) such joyous occasions. Our Grandson who lives in Charlotte NC has just graduated from High School & will, very soon, be off on a gap year, spent in Denmark. We never thought he could be so adventurous...up until the last few months, he'd always been a bit of an introspective, 'stay-at-home' chap...just goes to show!

I don't know Kat so it is hard to give advice to lift the spirits. To get all mushy, warm & fuzzy, touchy feely but...

When I feel low I just stop and think of how other people are doing. I look at those poor folks in other parts of the world and I realize How well off I really am. I am just feeling sorry for myself.

Try feeling sorry for someone else who is 1000 times worse off than you are. Maybe even help them out.

Like Arlo said:

"During these hard days and hard weeks, everybody always
has it bad once in a while. You know, you have a bad time of
it, and you always have a friend who says "Hey man, you
ain't got it that bad. Look at that guy." And you at that
guy, and he's got it worse than you. And it makes you feel
better that there's somebody that's got it worse than you."

"I've heard that one of the factors to a long life is keeping goals out there"

I agree Bobert.

I have a standard lecture or a large chunk of advice I give to the younguns when they are maturing but seem to be lost, not knowing what they want.

I call it being Goal Oriented. I say they will not be happy unless they have a clear objective, make all of their decisions based on reaching their objectives and they can see that they are making progress reaching those objectives.

Otherwise they are drifting around with no mile markers along the road of life to tell them where they are at and where they are going.

Believe me, it keeps you going, putting one foot in front of the other and takes the worries away.

When I was a little girl there was what seemed to me to be a very old man he seldom drank. Ocassionally however he would get gloriously drunk and mum and I would kneel on the couch and watch him waltzing his way home.

It was always the same dance three steps forward waltz in a circle then a step back it may have looked strange and doubled the length of his journey but he always made it home safe.

Through ilness, trials and loss I have found I have found that sometimes the only way to get to the goal is by doing the drunk man waltz.

The other day I was sitting at my window so far from my childhood home and memories of our old neighbour began to dance through my mind. As I replayed his strange journey home I suddenly realised something I had missed as a child. For him the journey wasn't long he had a tune in his head and although his goal was to get home he did it his way and enjoyed the dance.

When life seem to be dragging me backwards I will remember him and instead of seaing each backwards step as a deafeat I will listen to the music in my head and keep dancing.

Beautiful piece, Megan, absolutely beautiful.

We're all out here Kat, keeping watch, listening to You...listening to each other; praying, thinking, meditating, doing what we each do in our intercessions. I firmly believe that within us all is an untouchable, incorruptible 'essence of self' (Perhaps that's what people mean when they talk about 'Soul'). It's the complete You, secreted away, protected from everything Life can inflict, safe & inviolate. When the time is right, it will blossom & restore You. Your energies will return & you'll be ready to re-take your rightful place in the World. These are not metaphorical ramblings...metaphorical, yes, but taken directly from my own experience, following some deeply troubling times I endured some years ago.

Every gem you write, Megan...draws tears at its beauty, takes my breath away in awe. Thank you. (*tuning* up in my head.:-)

Nigel, your reminder about a safe place is most timely. A healer I am working with told me I need to get back in my body..it's been too scary to be in it with all the docs' pronouncements!**bg** I am to remind myself and my bod that what we are doing is for its betterment and it is safe. Your music is a good reminder of that. You know I love it. Thanks, again, for sharing it!

I know I am usually more forthcoming about what is going on. Without saying too much, my heart, lungs, and kidneys are all involved. Not in dire straits, but enough to get the docs' attention and mine. As they said, today, "yours is a complicated case." (Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that the surgeon's knots from 7.5 years ago are loose in spots, so the new heart valve can't work as efficiently as it could have. It could be my tissue didn't scar over as much as "we'd like." Angry?! Me?! Not sure, yet, but paying attention and trying not to freak out.

There, guess the kat is outta the bag a bit more.

Thanks, again,

kat

Kat, even if the stitches aren't as tight as they all should have been, anger will only make them worse, so take some deep breaths and help your doctors sort it and fix it.

As as been stated before, having a plan, even with baby steps, will help you feel better. Not just a general "getting better" plan, but an outlook that involves things to accomplish along the way. "Make X number of jewelry pieces" or "sell X number of books," if you want a simple list to cross out, along with "clean the kitchen counter" and have some more physical goals like the exercise, walking, breathing, good sleep goals you've been working on.

I like that song that Jess A posted, of the Melrose Quartet. Are you the "Jess" mentioned in the title? You're part of a great group! Thanks for giving that song link to Kat!

Trying to refocus my mind on more positives: I have been free of Tylenol and Benadryl for about three weeks, now. The alternative pain med, all natural, which I signed up for, is doing a bang-up job of keeping the constant pain of fibromyalgia under much better control than anything I've ever taken before and it's only 10mg taken once in the evening.

Tomorrow I get another iron iv infusion. Might have to take it easy for a few days as it could lower my already low BP. (I've had it up to here with taking it easy!)

And, I like both of them, Meg, thanks!

A so-so day...feeling a bit more energy, maybe from the second iron infusion on Friday. Rog kindly took me to a dept. store and pushed me around in a wheelchair to find some decent 100% cotton tees which we did. They are a good quality, very soft.

I feel trapped, kind of, in a stalemate of positive vs negative from a certain doc. Having trouble getting my mind to focus on the former more than the latter. Of course, being trapped in the house by not being able to drive, nor get around without help doesn't help.

You're right, SRS, getting the new meds to work for sleep and pain is helping to realign everything, but my brain needs to catch up. It's still mired in fear when logically it doesn't make sense.*sigh*

I guess I need to be patient with myself AND puir Rog. I think I've about driven him out of house and home!:-)

Tomorrow I shall try to get a few things done..paper stuff and will have Morgan here in the afternoon.

Thank you all for your help...I really, really appreciate it.

:-) I manage to make myself meditate this morning, followed by 25 minutes of qi gong...first time in weeks. See the therapist tomorrow and the pulmonologist on Wed. The iv infusion went so well I've scheduled the last one for this Friday.

My mind is still mired, but I have managed to get a few things done, too. I know the therapist said to take three weeks and do nothing but what my bod wanted, but I can't stand just lying about so much while the dust layers build up, etc. in the house!:-)

I know...float, just float...:-)

He He a little story of another scardeycat to make you smile. Cookie was the runt of the litter there were days when she jumped at her own shadow. One day the young lad down the road who babysat her when we had to go away came up to check what we were needing.

He told me he couldn't find Cookie we searched the house unsucucessfuly eventually we went into the bedroom nothing seemed out of place till I looked at the top of the bed. There was a tiny bump that mewelled pathetically when I gently nudged it. Our own little scardy cat had moved so fast when Triss entered the house that she had managed to co up between the sheets and the quilt without moving anything out of place.

Be good to yourself you are worth the effort

There are more books in you than one, Meg. I can't wait to read them. Love that story, too!

Hawker, nice to see you AND the rest of you, too!

I have a huge sigh of relief and some good news.

We met with the pulmonologist, today. She says she is happy with how I am doing, now we are back on track with certain meds, and explained why cardiologists and pulmonologists never look at echocardiograms in the same way and don't have much to do with one other because of their differences.

Anyway, what had happened was the cardio read the echo, said everything was worse, no surgical options left, etc. scaring us half to death, literally. In between all of this was the new alternative pain med which we are still not done trying different combos of to get it just right, if possible, and weight gain from the lack of meds for a couple of weeks (another experiment), and the iv iron infusions plus my first ever (and I hope last!) migraine, and a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I am glad the past few weeks or so are over!

I've been so scared, sleepless, tired, overwhelmed, etc. This one really knocked me for a loop. The way the cardio sounded, I felt terminal, up close and personal.

Of most concern, is the pulmonary hypertension, but as long as i continue to keep my O2 sats above 90% AND remain 100% compliant in using my bi-pap machine at night, the doc is NOT concerned about the ph and doesn't need to see me for 6 months!

Note to self: so, now you have three docs, a therapist, and a healer telling you they believe you are doing well and have no need to be so scared. Are you listening? Floating?:-)

I know one thing, I am THANKFULL to all of you for your help. I know I still have a lot of challenges, probably always will, but I can face them when I know of the wonderful love and support I receive right here on Mudcat. Thank you all so very much!

Do these doctors ever talk to each other? That might help them sort it out and put a stopper in the one who scared you so much!

I'm glad to read that the doctor today thinks you're coming along. Time to sling the O2 cannula over your shoulder, pull yourself up by the bootstraps, and get yourself moving again. :)

Ah, it's okay, CL. They are usually quite considerate...always shut their dogs up when they start yapping and are generally friendly. If it happens again I shall speak to them from the bedroom window or mention it the next day. Thanks, though.

The oomphing is working, folks! Thank you! The iron infusion went well, yesterday. Today, I was able to walk around the pet store, pushing a cart instead of riding in a wheelchair, though I did ride in one at Goodwill where we went shopping. Altogether I was out with Rog about 3 hours and did okay. It is too darn hot here and I had to put my legs up when we got home as I had some swelling, but it's all getting better.

We'll see how next week goes with Morgan here in the afternoons...I hope I have enough energy to do a few things around the house with him. Still can't drive alone (can't turn the key or unhook the seat belt due to old tendinitis, plus I've lost muscle tone in my arms.)

Thank you, again!

Thank you so much, Ann and Nigel. I just put an update in the fire thread. It is 103 farenheit with terribly drying winds.I am okay thanks to air conditioning and a swamp cooler, but the mood is still a tough go. I hurt some tendons in my fingers and would like the pain to go away. It's very wearing, not just for me, but my Rog,too. My therapist reminded me behaviour follows our thoughts. i am trying to fire enough cylinders to *see* myself driving, again and dusting our household clutter. Tall order at the moment.

Thank you all.

Kat, I know it's hot now, but I wonder if you can make it feel less in control if you did something like a back yard picnic breakfast with Morgan. One of those early in the morning affairs where the sun hasn't heated the day beyond comfort; a little summer ceremony when he can cook the French toast and you can slice the fruit and you can enjoy nice part of the day. I have to say that the mornings I get up early enough to walk the dogs are the ones we all enjoy most. They're happy and frisky and hungry - probably just like Morgan!

Or something along those lines. It really does help your spirits when you can enjoy the nice times like that.

From: Megan L

One day the weather was driech grey and damp the sort of weather that drags the spirit down. Giving myself a shake I decided to head down into the town. I stopped by the pier to watch the boat longingly, much as I love my island when you are feeling down the boat represents escape.

A mother and her little girl wandered away from the other people standing near the boat. Both were crying the woman was trying to hide her tears but the child looked like her heart was breaking. Her mother sniffed away her tears explaining her husband was leaving the island to try and find work. I lifted the little girl to sit on the rail as I held her safe then we both waved at the boat as it drew away from the pier.

As I looked down at the water I spotted a shoal of tiny fish. We watched them dart around the water occasionally one would swim of alone for a few moments then swim back to the shoal. It is amazing the daft little stories that spring into your mind when trying to divert a child from tears.

One small group appeared to be following one particular fish and those became a class going out on a trip round the harbour with their teacher with all the naughtiness a primary school outing can muster. As we worked through all the little fishes giving them names and jobs along with lots of silly voices the tears dried and little gurgles of laughter filled the air.

When we parted I felt refreshed and greeted the next person I spoke to with a smile. Sometimes it is the effort we put into making life better for others that improves our own.

Go on lass make lots of happy memories with Morgan even if it is spreading a blanket on the lounge floor and having a picnic on a rainy or to sunny day.

Heya, everyone. Just wanted to let you know I will mostly unavailable until after the 20th. Going to give my grandson a last week of fun, I hope, before school starts. Also, working on getting my hands healed up...the tendinitis has been exacerbated by fibromyalgia which flared up, I think, because I drove the car for the first time in a year, last week. The heat has also been brutal; I simply cannot go out in it as it is life-threatening.

I really AM doing better...just have to make it through the last of the heat and get the kid launched into third grade.:-) Lost 13 lbs since end of May.

Philosophy

Is your day begun with a smile or a frown
Are you looking up or looking down
Do you wear a smile upon your face
Or do you curse the human race.

I would far rather make someone smile
To rest and forget their cares a while
I would rather seek the good in life
Than burden folk with wrath and strife

Cannot remember how long ago i wrote this perhaps back in the 70's

Sometimes when I'm depressed, I like to think of crazy things to do. Such as, I used to live next door to a Mime. One night I drove him batty by playing a blank audio tape all night.

Be well, my dear, maybe the cd you ordered will help to cheer you up.

I heard from Kat this evening, asking me to let all of you know that she is okay, but she just isn't up to the Internet right now (don't we all know that feeling at times!) She'll write again in a day or two.

Take care, Kat, rest up and come back when you're ready.

The glorious intertwining harmonies, beautiful period costumes and choreography on a grand scale in this clip from Oliver Twist always make me smile: Who Will Buy

(My husband just came by as I was watching the clip myself, and commented, "One of the finest sequences ever committed to celluloid". He does have a way with words...) ;-)

Hope you're feeling better soon.

People can be so anoying! There I was yesterday enjoying a perfectly good grump. Well I mean it's not even November and we were having snow showers.

Then I received a text from my self appointed almost 40 daughter (Now I know why I never went for the real thing.)

"Yippee isn't it brilliant it's snowing"

"Naw it's cauld"

"Lets go out and sledge"

"Theres not enough snow GO AWAY PEST"

A long pause later i was just settling back into ma grump.

"We love you Momma Bear"

A perfectly good grump ruined by the mental picture of her standing there swinging her hip and scuffing her toe before running away grinning.

I love the people I adopt as family

Reflect upon your MC posting for the year 2012.

Consider...your recent change to a non traditional med.

I am concerned for you...there is much more going on.

Thank you all so much.

Yesterday was a good day...no crying spells!

No sleep the past three nights, but the pharmacist said to take the new med in the morn and it should not be a problem. (My doc said take it at night to sleep through any side effects, but the insomnia is the only one, thankfully.)

love to you all,

kat

Depression is such a complex problem and unique for each individual.

Firt off, good quality sleep is the single most important factor in emotional well-being. Theta, delta, and REM in roughly thirty minute stints with five or six total cycles of 90 minutes each and every night being ideal. Any disruption of that will have cumulative negative effects on your emotional well being.

Fibromyalgia impacts sleep negatively. Non trad meds taken at night might also do that. Pain medications can disrupt sleep as does pain, as you well know.

Heart problems cause anxiety. Anxiety disrupts sleep. Sleep apnea must be treated if it is evident or depression will persists no matter what meds are taken. Beta blockers like inderal contribute to depression. Any persistent low level lack of oxygen can eventually create depression.

Then there are the life issues. Fear of death, fear of death with unfinished business, loneliness, sadness over attenuation of emotional ties, losses we face as we age; jobs, health, people, pets, status, finances, dignity, unrealized dreams. There is so much that can make us sad and depressed.

Keep working on your health and adequate sleep Katie. Go to the therapist, come to terms with losses. Enjoy the present; your friends, family, grandchildren. Get lots of sunshine and fresh air. Enjoy nature Write, you love that I know. Tell your story, the painful parts as well as the bright parts. Good luck..You sound like you're better than you were in Spring.
love, harpgirl

When I was a little girl I had a floof cat. He was a huge gray and white long haired male. His notion of exercise was a brisk waddle from wherever he was napping to his dish, then back to wherever I was for some serous snuggling.
He was my best buddy.

When I was 13, we were told he had a tumor on his liver and he might live six months.

He did indeed live six months. He then lived another 11 years, napping, eating and snuggling. He died at not quite 18, of a gum infection.

There are two morals to that story 1: Don't take doctors' diagnoses too seriously. 2: Floss every day.
