That would be O'Carolan Tribute by the Fureys and Davey Arthur, which must have come out some time in the 70s. Here goes.

[D]I sat and I [G]thought of a [A]man O'[D]Carolan
Who [G]played for [D]kings and [A]lords and ladies
To [D]hear him [G]play, oh [A]must have been [D]wondrous
To [G]feel such [D]music played [A]at his com[D]mand
And the [D]people [G]spoke of your [A]mighty [D]godly gift
Be[G]stowed on [D]you when [A]you were a boy
To [D]play the [G]harp with your [A]magical [D]fingers
To [G]compose such [D]music that [A]left no de[D]sire

[CHORUS]
And [D]blind man O'Carolan [A]where is your [A7]monument
[D]Build it so [Em]high that the [A]world it can see
[D]All the [G]people [A]now have their [D]music
Through a [G]blind [D]harpist that [A7]helped them to [D]see

O'Carolan's concerto, was your tribute
You wrote it so people would remember your name
And the big hills the small hills, was your beauty
That conversation between two hills

And Carolan oh blind man, you wrote such masters
You showed the people, you found our hearts
And you gave our music a new beginning
And from the people it will never part

And blind man O'Carolan where is your monument
Build it so high that the world it can see
All the people now have their music
Through a blind harpist that helped them to see

Then a mighty man who's name was O'Riada
He wakened the people from out of their sleep
And O'Carolan's music, it was a part of him
A man I remembered a man I admired

And he spoke of you with great admiration
He played your music with grace and with style
And we'll remember you Sean O'Riada
We will remember you for a long while

And blind man O'Carolan he was your monument
He built it so high that the world it can see
And through O'Riada we can be thankful
He showed us a blind man, that's helped us to see

I see we had a thread called "O'Carolan's Tribute" in July 2009.

I first heard this song on a double LP that cost me a quid at the end of the seventies. It was called All The Folk That Fits and, apart from the Fureys, it had several tracks each by the Bothies, Planxty, De Dannan and Christy, among others (including Billy Connolly!). It was the first music of its kind that I'd ever bought and I hadn't heard of any of them apart from Billy. The moment I first heard Raggle Taggle Gypsy/Tabhair Dom Do Lamh on that record was the moment I fell in love with Irish music.
