Subject: ...what the Wild Goose Knows.. From: Uncle Jaque Date: 21 Dec 00 - 12:14 AM During a recent Paltalk I heard a song that brought back a lot of memories from my youth the '60s; I tried the DB without success to refresh memory as to the lyrics. About all I recall is the chorus, which goes something like:
"My heart knows what the wild goose knows; I know somebody out there has 'em; the fellow who sang it in the song circle! Verses, and, if possible, chord progressions would be appreciated. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: ...what the Wild Goose Knows.. From: Uncle Jaque Date: 21 Dec 00 - 12:48 AM Bless you, Sorcha! I'm going to shut down and catch a few Zs before work later this morning (my it is late!). Will be looking fwd. to your next response. If you could link to a website with the lyrics and save yourself typing 'em in that would be fine. This song came out when I was roaming the White Mts. of Northern NH, but knowing that I was soon off to the War with a broken heart - torn in several directions by a lost love, the ending of a tormented childhood, and a strong sense of migration instinct. It was the season for leaving, and when the geese went over that year I could hear in their cry my calling. That was over 30 years ago. Thanks! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: ...what the Wild Goose Knows.. From: kendall Date: 21 Dec 00 - 04:01 PM This put me to thinking about some of the songs of my youth..no Matt, not Greensleeves! Remember the radio program, YOUR HIT PARADE? some of the ones I think of fondly are, Wild Goose, In My adobe Hiecenda, Mule Train, Wayward Wind, Dark Moon etc. Today, I listened to Ed Tricketts new tape, Echos on the evening tide, and, one of the cuts is called Where in the world have the old songs gone? ...there is a line that just gets to me..."I cast my manhood down in a flood of tears and weep like a child for the past.. It is a wonderful tape, I recommend it most highly. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: ...what the Wild Goose Knows.. From: Uncle Jaque Date: 21 Dec 00 - 07:05 PM Wow, Kendall; "Restless Wind" (The ________[?] Sisters?); I used to sing that one until I was hoarse! I think we still have the well-worn 45RPM disc of it up in the attic someplace. Once in a rare while I will hear it on WLAM - that's about the only station that plays that sort of thing anymore. Most of the popular / rock & roll "Oldies" which I find annoying today, I also disliked back when they were top - 40 "Newies"! Abandoning all attempts at being "accepted" by the majority of my peers I listened, whrenever I could, to Kingston Trio, PP&M, Clancy Bros. and the like. And I was SOOO in LOVE with "Joannie" BAEZ... up until she quit singing and started whining ("protest" songs) exclusively, that is. What a catharsis it was riding my old Benelli 250CC hell-bent for leather through the NH mountains bellowing "Donna Donna" ("The Winds Are Laughing") at the top of my adolecent lungs into the slipstream! I sense another thread coming, here; "Songs that take You Back". Whattaya say, Old Compadres (some of whom have been around a fair bit longer than I have)? UJ - ME |
