When I say BAGPIPES, I actually mean all types of PIPES. I have quite an old set of NORTHUMBRIAN SMALLPIPES that need some attention, slight leak in bellows and a very dry pipebag. I seasoned the pipebag but it still is not airtight (any suggestions anyone??) I also have a three-quarters set of UILLEANN PIPES that has similar problems.I think I possibly need a new bag for the Uilleann pipes. All this was due to my wife complaining about my playing some years ago, so I put them away. Now she is 'Quite deaf'(we also have moved to a house with outbuildings) so I don't bother anyone now. Can anyone help. I think this would be a good time to gather a list of PIPE-MAKERS.

many thanks.

Yum Yum.

Oh..........When I read the thread title I thought the little buggers were attacking you and I came here armed with axes and other implements of destruction. Glad you're not injured although I would suggest a shrink.

The best pipemaker alive today is Seth Gallagher, if you use Uilleann as a serch term and Gallagher you should find his website and his links will lead you to anything else you need. He is a great fellow, made my pipes, and could direct you to what you need, though I doupt he will work on a set of pipes he did not make, unless it is a really rare and valuble set, in which case he might have an interest in looking at it. He is in Cold Spring New York.
All the best
Larry

You could always try making a new bag for either set of pipes yourself. The following link is for Mike Nelson's wonderful article on how to make a set of Northumbrian Pipes and includes the making of the leather bag.

Kirk Lynch in Weston, MO, (near Kansas City) is also a pipe maker. His web page HERE, is still under construction but all the contact info is up.

Thanks folks, I was able to get in touch with Na Piobairi Uilleann from Dublin (talk about around the world for a short cut) not only did I get sorted out with new pipe- bags and bellows but I was given a piece of information that has led me to a quite rare set of Uilleann pipes less than twenty miles from my home address. A 200 year old set of Coin pipes, (not for sale) but I have been given the loan of them for as long as I wish. Thanks again, But it would be great to have a list of Pipe-makers from the UK, does anyone know if there is such a list compiled. God help the neighbours, my little wrinkly fingers are going 'hell for leather'to practice what I used to play over twenty-odd years ago.

Na Piobairi Uilleann had a list... they gave me a list for here

I have a list for Northumbrian, Scottish, and Uilleann in Ireland that I got off the internet... I think I just searched for pipe+makers+ireland

I know there is a mudcatter in Comber, N. Ireland who makes bags and should know some pipe makers...... I can't find his name.. but if you send John Moulden a private message he'll know the name for you..

send me a private message and I'll forward you my list, it has addresses and phone numbers so I don't want to post it here...
