Subject: John Denver's pick-ups From: DonMeixner Date: 31 Oct 01 - 11:42 PM I was watching the Wildlife Concert that Denver did a few years ago. I noticed he had some pickups in his guitars that I am not familiar with. They looked like sound hole pickups but his guitars all had endpin jacks. Anyone have a clue what they are? made his Taylors sound great. Don |

Subject: RE: Help: John Denver's pick-ups From: Rick Fielding Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:31 AM Hi Don. Appeared to me he was using Sunrise pick-ups. Probably in conjunction with a Fishman 'under the saddle" unit. Perhaps the sound was mixed together before it got to the board. Sunrise was certainly the "state of the Art" a few years ago and were eagerly grabbed up by a lot of pros. I bought one after a three month wait, and promptly loaned it to a friend who was down on his luck. To my shock and horror...about three weeks later he sold it! (to the same store I bought it from) My experience is that the Fishman Rare earth (which I currently use) sounds 'bout the same. Rick |

Subject: RE: Help: John Denver's pick-ups From: GUEST,Don Meixner Date: 01 Nov 01 - 03:25 PM Hi Ed, No, I'm still going to Elderly to look at guitars. Looks like Next Thursday and possibly Friday. Looking very close to a Martin 00016GTE or the next size up. But thta Larrivee Lo-3E is still in my mind. I was interested in the pick ups he was using because they were some I'd never seen before. And they sounded good, at least on my TV they did. Rick, they were also miked as well. Which coul;d contribute to the nice sound. Blending the mids and lows via the microphone into the pick ups highs. Does that make sense? I'm just guessing. Don

Subject: RE: Help: John Denver's pick-ups From: Rick Fielding Date: 04 Nov 01 - 12:38 PM Not at all Don. Spot on. One of the reasons that I only use the Fishman "Rare Earth" humbucker, WITHOUT the internal mike, is 'cause ninety percent of the time there's a mike in front of me. I'm not much for bouncin' around on stage so I don't mind being stationary behind that mike. The two sources give a nice blend. Rick P.S. Good luck in your search. |
