Subject: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Wincing Devil Date: 17 Apr 02 - 12:21 AM For those of you on the other side of the pond, the Big Game Lottery is a multi-state lottery where the jackpot is up to $325,000,000! (225,656,787.26 GBP!) and I WON!!!!!A grand total of $2.00 Someones got to win sooner or later! WD |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Pete Jennings Date: 17 Apr 02 - 12:28 AM A whole $2? Chicken feed! Over here the National Lottery jackpot is a lot smaller - about $10,000,000 average twice a week, but there's a £10 ($15) prize that I've won a few times. To keep this post musically related, I spent it on beer at the folk club. Pete |

Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Ebbie Date: 17 Apr 02 - 02:23 AM Amergin, before I left Oregon to live in Alaska, for a number of years I made it a practice to buy a handful of lottery tickets for friends' birthdays. So far as I know, the most any of them ever won was $15 but the potential was there, so it was fun for us both. Gotta admit it was difficult for me to refrain from opening them myself. In Juneau we have 'pull tabs', whatever that is. I don't know how large the payoff can be. Ebbie |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Cappuccino Date: 17 Apr 02 - 02:44 AM I won ten pounds on the British lottery this weekend!!! Oh, don't little things make you happy?! -Ian B |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: C-flat Date: 17 Apr 02 - 02:57 AM I was three numbers OFF winning a tenner this weekend! |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Nigel Parsons Date: 17 Apr 02 - 03:56 AM For those confused by C-flat's comment, the UK lottery requires choosing 6 numbers which you hope will be the 6 numbers drawn by the tombola machine. Drawing all 6 scoops the jackpot (or a share of it) at odds between 13 and 14 million to 1. getting 3 right gives a prize of £10 (most weeks). so missing by three numbers means C-Flat managed to prophesy 0 out of 6. An additional (Bonus) number is also drawn, which gives an additional prize if 5 numbers are correct, plus the bunus ball. This gives a great differentiation between the fist level of runners up. The prize ranking is: All 6 correct 5 correct + Bonus ball 5 correct 4 correct 3 correct. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: MudGuard Date: 17 Apr 02 - 05:08 AM So C-flat had 6 correct numbers, but the machine spat out 6 wrong numbers? ;-) What range are the numbers? From the odds, my guess is 1 to 49? |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: greg stephens Date: 17 Apr 02 - 05:39 AM I have won £1.80 on the pools and £10 on the lottery. But the high point of my life was winning a gallon of Johnny Walker, the top prize in the Orford Harvest Supper raffle. I particularly enjoyed the hostile glares of the locals (I was a namby pamby community artist, visiting for one day only on a project). |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: gnu Date: 17 Apr 02 - 06:54 AM The 6/49 (every Wednesday & Saturday) is $5M Cdn tonight, and the Super 7 (every Friday) is $17.2M Cdn. I figure, if your gonna wish, you may as well wish for it all. If I win the 5 tonight and the 17.2 on Friday, I may even increase my annual Mudcat donation. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Bat Goddess Date: 17 Apr 02 - 07:35 AM The lottery's my retirement plan -- to keep this musically related, I'm a trad singer. ;-) Actually, we used to win $400 reasonably regularly in the Tri-State, and even won $1000 twice. Usually just in time to bail us out of some financial crisis or get something fixed on the car. I'd love to win sometime when it would be gravy. Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: SharonA Date: 17 Apr 02 - 09:08 AM For several years, I lived in a town that had its own lottery millionaire. He got the grand prize TWICE (first for 6 million, then for 2). Before he won, he had owned a little tackle shop on Main Street. After he won, he moved his store across the street to a larger location. Aside from that, he retained his hunting-and-fishing-and-running-his-store lifestyle. In other words, he already had what he wanted. |

Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Pseudolus Date: 17 Apr 02 - 11:09 AM I have an uncle who says he wins the lottery every day. He wins the dollar that he didn't spend on a ticket. He also loves the phrase that the lottery is a tax on people who aren't good at Math. He's a little weird, but we love him. We usually talk about him on the way to and from buying our lottery tickets!!

Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: CarolC Date: 17 Apr 02 - 12:08 PM And how much did the ticket cost, too? |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Wincing Devil Date: 17 Apr 02 - 12:12 PM Tickets are $1.
Cheaper than a movie, lasts a lot longer, and you use your OWN imagination to write the script! |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 17 Apr 02 - 12:15 PM A co-worker of mine and his wife played the same 6 numbers for three years, every week. They went to Florida on vacation, instructing a friend to purchase a ticket for those numbers while they were gone. The morning after the drawing, they called to discover that the six numbers had come up. In a state of euphoria, they called the friend. That was when they were informed that the friend had forgotten to purchase the ticket. Somethings are just not meant to be, I suppose. |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Amergin Date: 17 Apr 02 - 01:22 PM my high school counselor one a few million in the oregon lottery (megabucks it is called) several years ago....sadly he did not live to enjoy it for very long..... |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Paul from Hull Date: 17 Apr 02 - 06:27 PM Pseudolus, I was going to say the same thing! (course I was going to say it in Sterling rather than in Dollars...*G*) I see no point in betting against several million other people that I'm going to be the one that week that catches ALL of the £1 coins that every other participant is throwing up in the air! ...the pleasure goes out of gambling somewhat when youre sure you arent going to win.....*sigh* |

Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Benjamin Date: 18 Apr 02 - 12:05 AM Ah yes! The Big Game is coming to Washington State at the end of September. Two lotteries to choose from! They'd better pay out some day. These things are just like slot machines! |
Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Grab Date: 18 Apr 02 - 08:05 AM Best we've done is in a pub quiz last month. Me, my wife and a couple of friends went to this pub for a meal, and they had a quiz on. We got a grand total of 42/50, and usually there's some pretty good ppl at pub quizzes so we thought we'd be way off - but we were joint winners! The best bit is that we were joint winners with the ppl behind us who we'd swapped papers with for marking! Mutterings about cheating from the other ppl... ;-) Graham. |

Subject: RE: BS: I Won the Big Game Lottery! From: Hrothgar Date: 19 Apr 02 - 04:34 AM When I started my first statistics subject at Uni the lecturer asked "Who here has a ticket in Gold Lotto (that's our lottery)?" About half the class put their hands up. Then he said "Who doesn't have a ticket in Gold Lotto?" Most of the rest of the class put their hands up (there are always some who won't commit themselves!). And the lecturer said "I'm sure you'll be glad to know you all have an almost equal chance of winning." |
