"Wow, it's been a long time since we've used this place....."(but with a
wave of the magical Mudcat Wand, the place is sparkley clean and ready for
party-goers).

"I heard there was going to be chocolate, guacamole, margaritas, and daquiris
arriving soon, so I thought I'd bring these cookies. Yes, they are, in fact, what
they appear to be.   I can't help it if the only cookie cutters I have are the "BIG
DICK'S" cutters that my sister gave to me at my own bachelorette shin-dig. They
aren't too obscene, because they also doubled as 'hatchets' for a Cub Scout
meeting that I didn't know was going to be at my house. Here, as everywhere in
life, it's all in the frosting."

"That would qualify as something old, I guess.

Something new? Well, what could be better than new love?

Borrowed.....hmmm.....We'll just 'borrow' a couple of quarters from the till and
punch up the jukebox.   For starters: A-eleventyseven   Stevie Wonder---For
Once In My Life.

Blue......jello in the pit, of course.

And after the obligatory pint-n-yer-honor, I can kneel on the barstool and hiccup:

If I leave all for thee, wilt thou exchange
And be all to me? Shall I never miss
Home-talk and blessing and the common kiss
That comes to each in turn, nor count it strange,
When I look up, to drop on a new range
Of walls and floors, another home than this?
Nay, wilt thou fill that place by me which is
Filled by dead eyes too tender to know change?
That's hardest. If to conquer love, has tried
To conquer grief, tries more, as all things prove;
For grief indeed is love and grief beside.
Alas, I have grieved, so I am hard to love.
Yet love me--wilt thou? Open thine heart wide,
And fold within the wet wings of thy dove."

(congrats Mortee and Allan!)

Can anyone tell me what Morti's favorite colour is? Or Failing that, Allan's? or both?

I do hope this isn't designed to be purely a bachelorette party because I really could use an opportunity to duck in out of the heat and to suck down a pint or two.

Mario, thanks for sorting the cookies. I felt the same way. Unless I am mistaken, Morti's favorite color is purple (the color of chocolate undoubtedly being second) and my own is/are blue or varying shades of it but I also very much like wearing bright red. (I like chocolate too but rarely eat any other than semi-sweet.) We differ also in our metalic tastes in that she prefers things that are silver and I like gold - or more accurately, brass.

Yes, purple features pretty heavily... and I'm sure she'll LOVE the cookies - in fact, I want one of those cookie cutters please!!! (seriously!!)

This could stand to be the longest running bachelor/hen night in history as they aren't actually doing the deed until next year, but my motto has always been 'never put off until tomorrow what you can do today, because if you like it, you can do it again tomorrow!'

I've got a nice easy drink of sloe gin here.... lots of ice, cut with a little soda to 'fluff' it up a little.....

Now then, what about a song....

Maids when you're young?

MMario, bear in mind that Purple( as Morty means) is the colour of the foil on a wll-known brand of British Chocolate!!! Cadburys Dairy milk (ask her about her encounter with a 1lb bar of it ,in her pram when she was about a year old, (there are pictures) which led to her mother not speaking to me for a month)

Here I go.

Geez, maybe I should have said they were 'tommy-hawks' cookies? Sounds more butch? Hey, it worked for the CubScouts....

Liz, m'dear.....If you PM me your address, I'll send you the whole collection of them (serious, there are three or four different sizes) they should be put to good use!

Chocolate guacamole margartias, Mike? Don't you mean a chocolate guacamole margarita flavoured daquiri? Noreen can make one of those, I'll bet.

Spaw.....eeeeewwwwwww *bg* So what if it's a friggin' year early. It'll take that long to find somebody willing to crawl into the cake. After Joe's bachelor party, it's sure as hell not gonna be ME anymore! Who knew frosting burns could sting like that?

SRS, maybe Sorcha will be along soon with the Glitter Go-Go Hamsters?

I second the motion, guys!! Toasts and songs to you both!

If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
I love her for her smile--her look--her way
Of speaking gently,--for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of ease on such a day--
For these things in themselves, Belovèd, may
Be changed, or change for thee,--and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheek dry,--
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou may'st love on, through love's eternity.

I'm not in a rush to have wildlife inside the tavern--just wanted to know what to look out for as far as where to put food and set drinks, where to put ones self (sitting) and where to put ones feet if there's any dancing at this party! ("Ones" is already possessive--does it need an apostrophe?--"one's").

Note to SRS: "Ones" is a plural as is used when speaking of counting by ones or by twos. Yes, an apostrophe is needed when using the possessive form. However, after a pint or three, who would care?

After a few pints, one's ones become less distinct than one's twos, due to the clear hardness of the intiial consonant in the latter.

Hardness in the latter? Back to the cookies are we?

G' Afternoon, all. The kitties have finally agreed to come out from their hiding places to eat and use the litter boxes. Seamus is sunning himself out back and conversing with the neighbors' dogs, so I can take a Tavern Break. JD on the rocks with a twist and a male genital cookie if you please.

Been practicing "Those wedding bells must not ring out" for days now.
"A shriek of woe; a glittering blade;
A lurch, a flash, a dart!
And like the lightening stroke, the blade
Had reached her trembling heart..."
A real showstopper, that one.

Oh all right. I will save it for the Getaway.

I have an overwhelming craving for a medium rare charcoal broiled burger with cheese. Who is on grill duty today? I brought some cole slaw and chips to go with it. And if I can't sing, I will drink - another JD please.

Pay no attention to the large yellow dog at my feet. Kendall took off for Old Songs and left Seamus in my care. He wouldn't mind a burger with cheese as well. Careful Morty, he's drooling on your train.

Depends on whether the coals are hot or cold. Hot coals could do a Dog impression (Woof!)
Jen - could I order a large glass (preferably Imperial Pint) of something flavoursome. Preferably malty with a hint of Fuggles hops and a chocolate afterbite.
It will be nice to chill out with such god company. I brought the sack of courgettes, all ready washed for the "Best wedding cake decoration " competition. You just need to provide your own Bowie knives to do the carving.
I'll just be passing time making Custard towers until the crowd arrives.
When the beer is pulled could you send it around to my table? Just put it on my bill...
Quack!!
Gtd.

Wow, you guys, congrats!

I lived with visions for my company

Instead of men and women, years ago,

And found them gentle mates, nor thought to know

A sweeter music than they played to me.

But soon their trailing purple was not free

Of this world's dust; their lutes did silent grow

And I myself grew faint and blind below

Their vanishing eyes. Then thou didst come, beloved,

To be what they seemed. their songs, their splendors, shining fonts

All met in thee and from out thee overcame my soul, with satisfaction of all wants

Because God's gifts put man's best dreams to shame.

don't check me on that; I'm pleasantly impressed with myself for remembering the lines.

Did you guys meet through the 'Cat or did you already know each other in real life?

Someone to sleep with me nightly,

What's a courgette? And what does it have to do with cake decorating?

I believe Seamus Kennedy only drools when playing the banjo. Seamus the golden lab drools on cue.

Terri will make such a lovely bride - dog drool on her train and charcoal on the back of her dress. How bought a glass of red wine for contrast, Morty? This is after all the virtual reality party.

Something old - a few Mudcat curmudgeons
Something new - Lily Ani
Something borrowed - you still owe me .30 towards the tip at the diner
Something blue - the sky on your wedding day.

Another JD here. I am getting sloshed and misty.

A courgette is a baby vegetable marrow (also zucchini) used successfully in past lives for competition carving. The green of the uncarved skin contrasts nicely with the creamy flesh. A gentle curlicue here, a bold slash there.... Works of Art!
Can I get mist now?

I always thought that tesselates were those things that women dancers in tawdry, smoke-filled bars wore. You know, the things they can twirl around by muscular action....

As for fightin' and generally raising a ruckus, smashing furniture, and stuff like that -- feel free, but I don't want to get involved. One war is enough for anybody, and these days I want to limit my wars to the boud type. Y'all chose up sides, Anomalies vs. Tessarects, and I'll just sit here and watch. And drink.

I'll let you know if/when the cops come. If they do, I'll try to catch them in a non-linear space/time/gravity paradox -- perhaps an ultra-Klein bottle -- and watch to see what happens if or when they approach the blue event horizon limit. Will they stretch to infinity? Will it be gory? Or will they silently and swiftly vanish away?

Good name for a group, that, Blue Event Horizon. Sounds like an even better Festival name.

QUIT, all you smokers! A tall cold gin and tonic, please ... oh, self service ... then I'll produce a bottle of Tanqueray oh hell, here's the lime juice; I'll just make it a gin gimlet, on the rocks ... then see if I can find my way to bed.

Never mind, better late than never, you'll have to settle for some Lipsi honey and duty free Metaxas as my gift. Although I live in Ascot I don't wear top hat and tails, hope cords and an old T-shirt are OK, I'm a conscientious objector in the fashion wars.

Worse than that are the logistical problems of setting out the formal table settings remembering that Cousin Diane doesn't talk to her mother Eileen, who hates her niece Alison's boyfriend Gary, who won't sit with anyone except Alison and her brother Shaun, who won's sit anywhere because he'll be at the bar all night until the fight starts.

Add the grooms' family to that and you're in for a happy night of fisticuffs!

Hold on a moment! I'm not totally sure there is enough money in the coffers to sponsor these women who are sure to be locked up (plus who knows how many more!) and there is certainly not enough to begin to post bond for the men! This may result in an entirely different meaning for BYOB!!

I'm sure he said something about a transmutation gubbins as an optional extra. If you are going to need so much cash, it might be worth the investment to convert some lead to gold!
Go for the ReverseBarleycorn model.
[John Barleycorn, John Barleycorn
makes a man into an ass.
He turns your gold to silver,
And your silver into brass]

Or maybe you could find that Potter kid you barred for being underage a couple of years back. He may still have that Philosophers' Stone he was trying to flog for a pint of Riggwelter!

Bond and/or bail money? Police? Not problems at all.

It's been arranged that everyone entering will be tagged with a Fourier-Poincare Multitemporal/dimensional Place-Flow Router. Smaller than a bit of dust, this device utilizes topological locii in such a way that Hesperis-Pith fuctions interact mobically with Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, dimensional "flow" being restricted and "channeled" through multi-mentational gateways. Expressed in low and vulgar terms, you can not only think your way out of jail but do so with the drink of your choice in your hand. For more discussion of this, see your local topologist.

Use the credit card and gold for booze and good times, dammit!

Well, we could be cynics and play Teresa Morgan's Wedding Song, but that's only for first time arounders -- for the starter marriage types.

Er, this isn't the first for youse guys, is it??

Ducking and diving, MA

(In a previous life I worked in a little library across from St. Michael's in Chicago -- yes, the one that's now a TV set -- and one very cynical guy on staff actually went out into the middle of the street when there was a wedding and yelled, "Fool!" at the departing car ...)

I wish I could remember the tune...

and the words....

and I wish I'd remembered it about 13 years ago......

Actually, Geoff, it is a primitive cannon for blowing open city gates. With a penchant for misfiring and blowing the gunny sky high.

c'mon - this place needs to pick up a bit!

According to the announcement - we only have 10 months, 4 days and about 23 hours before the big event.

That's barely enough time to wish 'Spaw a Happy birthday, let alone celebrate these Nuptuals!
