AVAST, ye scurvy lubbers! Ye dismasted, incontinent bilge rats! Prepare to be boarded, ye mangy dogs! Where's me grog and where's a buxom wench tae serve it? Strike up a hornpipe, me hearties, there's a storm a-brewin' tae windward, and the yards are stripped bare, but I've a song in me heart and a parrot on me left shoulder that can curse in 7 languages, so what give a damn, says I! Lay on, ye whoresons, and the divil take the hindmost!

I know why people like pirates. They're so enthusiastic! Anyone see Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean"? Holy mackerel, what a stupendously good pirate he was! I give that movie 10 out of 10 stars. It was the most fun I've had at the movies in years.

I took the Quiz.

Me name is * * * Iron Roger Bonney * * *.

Me description: A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you are that person. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Arrr! It's a fine mornin', it is, and a fresh breeze is blowin'. Time to hoist sail and search for plunder, mateys! Shake the cobwebs out o' yer achin' heads, ye witless lubbers, and make sail or heave to and raise the white flag! Arrr! By thunder, the thing I like best about bein' a pirate is all the exclamation points I get to use! Arrrr!

...and the thing I like least is the accursed parrot guano on me left shoulder epaulets! Avast, ye blasted bird! Polly definitely needs a crapper!

So I suppose I would revert to my childhood nickname of Izzy Tin Drawers.

By the way, did you realise that the dread Pirate Bonney was actually a girl? Two of the best (i.ie., they made lots of dosh and didn't get hanged) pirates were women?

My boyfriend decided to take talk like a pirate day a little too far. He showed up dressed like a pirate last night, in a very cheap nylon costume, and yes, he talked like a pirate. It probably would have been a turn-on if the costume had been a little more classy...

GrayD:-
Benny Hill RIP was a British Comedian. He was a strange fish and was I beleive ambisextrous. Anyway he kind of embodied Brit Postcard humor from the 50's. He was popular here in Blighty and went over a storm in Japan. I though all their senses of humour were made by Nippon Laughso ;-)

He did a good if somewhat camp Pirate.

Hello. I am the Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. I believe that there have been concerns about my recent package of benefits, which seem to be in line, by and large, with compensations that accrue to other executives who, by sheer talent and sweat of their brow, are worth 48 million dollars more than the people who work all day at McDonalds. And if you don't quite understand that, you don't understand piracy.

yours,

Peter T.

Why do you think she was called Anne Bonney?

His name escapes me at the moment, but the best pirate example ever was an Anglican bishop. Can any one remember?

Aye, twas only a taste o' the cat he had and he were begging for mercy. Landlocked tho' we be, apart from the River Aire and the Aire and Calder canal, my offspring, steered her course to college in Pontefract to find that she was alone...Yaaargh! No other members of the brethren had dared to reveal their true identities! It seems that she alone was aware of the public relations exercise that had been planned for 19th September.

Nevertheless, she steered herself into her media study class, where she singlehandedly explained the cut and thrust of hand to hand combat on land and indoors, as portrayed in a recent documentary by Buena Vista on the same.

There are so many ways I've got planned tae end yer sorry life that even me parrot can't count 'em all...and that bird can count tae seven hundred and seven! Faith now, but my two favorite pirates are Captain Peter Blood (fictional) and Grace O'Malley (real). They never talked like Cornishmen, because, as Captain Blood would say, they had the honor to be Irish.
Grace O'Malley would, undoubtably say, "pogue mo breachan". I can't say it anymore, because my sister's one.

Walk the plank? By the powers!!!! That be no real punishment fer a seafarin' man. That be a Victorian embellishment fer them adventurin' tales what they were so fond of. Yer actual pyrates an' buccaneers (them wi' the hat...) didn't hold with no walking o' the plank!!! Discipline on a freebooting ship were a more delicate thing see you. A cap'n that wanted to keep his ship and his crew took good care to make sure they knew what'd happen to any man-jack as turned agin 'is cap'n an' 'is mates!!! Swift and merciless were the usual way, wi' a cut throat or a ball through his body. Fer a matter less serious, if'n a touch up wi' the cat weren't considered sufficient, then a good keel-haulin' be more like it. Or maroonin' the miscreant on a sandbank an' then standin' off as the tide come in were allus good fer a laugh . That be more like the thing, aharr!! Mind, that be fer a first offence like. Fer an idea o' something a bit more serious, I'd refer ye to Iron Roger's inventiveness a few posts back......

Mind ye, ye'll have to do without Iron Roger hissel' as this 'ere vessel o' mine be a-presently a-bearin' down on him wi' a full broadside o' twelves and nines ready fer his breakfast, an' he's all took aback, the swab, wi' his sails at slack an' his scurvy crew o' dockside tavern scrapin's cowerin' in the scuppers. Now then, Bonney, where be ye now wi' yer high flown words, ye foul damned drunken scabby black-hearted and accursed apology fer a seafarer? Mister 'Awkins, I'll thank 'e ter put a match to yer touch-hole as she rises. Fire away together, damn yez!!! Aye, take ye that through yer rotten bulwarks, Bonney!!!!!! Aharrrrr!!!!

Not sure how many of ye lads have heard them Ontario pirates sing this successful pirate's ditty:

By Al Parrish
Tanglefoot © 1994
From Saturday Night at Hardwood Lake
Adapted slightly by Charlie Ipcar

Traighli Bay

F-----Dm------------------------F---------------Dm
It was June and it was hot, when on board the ship we got,
-----------------------Gm-------Bb-------------F
Shot and powder for the guns, and a hogshead full of rum,
---Am----------------------Dm
Salt cod to last until the winter squalls;
------------------------------------F----------------Dm
We made for the southwest, where the hunting would be best,
---------------------------Gm---------Bb-------------F
Where them Spanish ships of old, ladened down with Aztec gold,
-----------Am------------------------Dm
Were the fairest game for gentlemen of fortune.

Chorus:
Dm------F--------------------Dm
And with tar on our pigtails, and blood on our rapiers
------Bb------------F---------------C
We'll fly the skull and crossbones. By God, we'll take no prisoners.
------F-----Dm-------------F---------------Dm
('Tis) hi ho a-way, boys; we'll sail for Traigh-li Bay, boys,
Bb------------------------C7-----F
Hoist the Jolly Roger, at the break of day.

From up the crow's nest, then, called our third mate Mister Flynn,
"Set the course and hold her steady, and for action make her ready –
There's a Spanish galleon off our starboard bow;"
We raised the black flag high, as that Spaniard turned to fly;
We followed in her wake, 'til we could overtake,
And dismasted her with chain shot and cannon ball.        Chorus

We pulled up along side with our grappling hooks and lines,
Guns and cutlasses in hand, on the gunnels we did stand;
Every sailor from the captain to the cabin boy;
Saw three dead the chain had flayed; as we raised and crossed our blades,
To their mates we gave our best, as the sun sank in the west,
With pikes and swords, pistols, fists and feet.        Chorus

From the darkness till the dawn, that battle rag-ed on,
We fought with manly fitness, for we meant to leave no witness;
We lost Mister Flynn and one leg from the cabin boy;
But with their treasure we retired, and their canvas we set fire,
Left them sinking in the deep, where their silent bones can sleep,
And we forged a leg of gold for the cabin boy.        Chorus

'Twas August and still warm, when to Traighli we returned.
Fifty-eight days on the Main; we've no need to sail again;
We've gold and silver more than we can spend;
Now half a century has passed, and of that crew I am the last;
Fifty years I've walked these docks, and when I get a chance to talk
I tell of how I got this golden leg!        Chorus x2

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Well! I am SO disturbed at all this hostile, intemperate language flying back and forth between Iron Roger and Scarface Rufus! Now boys, settle down, or I shall be forced to sally forth, as it were, slap both your faces, take you by the ears and knock your heads together till you agree to get along decently as good gentlemen of fortune should!

You may have heard of my ship, the Pink Pearl, renowned all across the Spanish Main. She's outfitted with the prettiest set of sails you ever saw, in bright coral pink, and her upper works are trimmed with avocado piping around the gilded decorations. My crew are a fine set of lads, not a missing tooth among the lot, and they're outfitted in chartreuse leggings that just have to be seen!

I don't allow this sort of abusive language to be used aboard the Pink Pearl, and I don't suffer it easily when ashore either. Really, now, would you want your mothers to hear you talk that way???

I thought not. Let's be well behaved and all get along, shall we?

By the way, you have no doubt heard of my father, the famous Blue Peter? He personally captured 35 galleons, 12 sloops, 3 frigates, 17 pinnaces, 1 galleass, and a barge full of dugongs during his unrivalled career.

Well, that should smooth things over. I hope to share some reminiscences and a joke or two with both of you over a nice glass of absinthe some time in Tortuga or Port-au-Prince. Or tea at Percival's perhaps?

Tally Ho, lads!

Mauve Peter, the Prancing Pirate

"Mad Dog Read" 'ere, in pedant mode.

"Grog" is the Royal Navy's term for pure rum diluted with four parts water, and issued by pursers aboard. The term "Grog" itself is derived from Admiral Vernon, a stern disciplinarian who was known as "Old Grogram" by association with this stiff, unbending material.

(Obviously, Vernon deprecated having seamen lying about half dead from privately acquired rum, usually pure firewater, and so made it an official, strictly controlled ration issue).

Where was I ? Oh, I remember. Essentially, no self-respecting pirate would admit to drinking Grog (unless they had been discharged from, or deserted from, the Royal Navy).

End pedant mode. Is such sea-lawyering punishable by marooning, keel-hauling, being triced up to the yardarm, or just having me vittles stapped ?

The standard for pirate talk and behavior was set by Robert Newton, mentioned above by Big Pink. As Long John Silver in "Treasure Island," he was the pirate with (perhaps)a soft heart, but in "Blackbeard" he had no redeeming features whatsoever, consistently charmed his own crew into fatal activities, and talked his way out of a major mutiny or two. He introduced the all-purpose pirate word "Arrrgh" to the public with immortal phrases like "Arrrgh, Main-yard, ye kilt me best hack 'n slash man..." and "Arrrgh, its a fine buxom wench ye are..."

(A lot of that seafaring jargon came from the poor Irish sailors who were hired or shanghied onto those ships. "Bucko" for instance came from the Irish "me Buchal" and so on. You can see the patterns.)

"Blackbeard" should be required viewing for anyone interested in pirate speech and behavior. I saw it as a kid, and I'll never forget the last scene in which Blacbeards crew buried him up to his neck on the beach and watched the tide come in.

Oh my, but you lads are in for a very chastening experience! My merry crew and my plucky ship are capable of marine choreography that will leave you breathless and lying on your beam ends. We're loading our long irons with chain shot this very minute and dancing and prancing in delight at the thought of the havoc we will wreak upon your leaky scows!

Still, I am willing to give you both one more chance at redemption. I will accept a humble apology (if it is couched in properly respectful language). We can then meet for a nice libation at Percival's, where they have the best dancers in the whole Caribbean.

Otherwise, I regret to say that your seafaring days are approaching their penultimate finale. C'est la vie!

Please be judicious in your choices. The Pink Pearl awaits you!

Mauve Peter

p.s. Consider giving up all this "ARRRR!", and "ye" and "avast" nonsense. It makes you sound crude and lacking in subtlety. You'll never get a royal pardon and a knighthood by carrying on in such a fashion. I intend to retire as a Grand Duke and live in the lap of luxury after I have sacked Panama and plundered the Spanish treasure fleet, which I have promised myself to accomplish prior to reaching age 40.

Back in 1980, when the movie "YellowBeard" was being released, one of their publicity people approached me, asking for the use of my bold and rakish schooner, the Nettie K, for an event in New York Harbor. Their intent was to raise the skull and crossbones at my main peak and get the boat arrested. [It is still illegal to fly the black flag under US federal statute.] When I asked how much they were willing to pay for the vessel's defense and redemption, they told me that there was no budget. I then encouraged them to depart on the side away from the quay.

I'm not sure exactly when (after the Falkland war I beleive) the Jolly Roger became the official emblem of 'the Royal Silent Service' but it was inspired by the quote "Submarines are underhand, unfair and damned un-English. The crews of all submarines captured should be treated as pirates and hanged" from Admiral Sir Arthur Wilson, the Controller of the Navy (1901).

Thought I'd share my favorite pirate tale. Read it from an ancient school book when I was about 10 years old.
---------
The Inchcape Rock
by Robert Southey

No stir in the air, no stir in the sea,
The ship was still as she could be,
Her sails from heaven received no motion,
Her keel was steady in the ocean.

Without either sign or sound of their shock
The waves flow'd over the Inchcape Rock;
So little they rose, so little they fell,
They did not move the Inchcape Bell.

The Abbot of Aberbrothok
Had placed that bell on the Inchcape Rock;
On a buoy in the storm it floated and swung,
And over the waves its warning rung.

When the Rock was hid by the surge's swell,
The mariners heard the warning bell;
And then they knew the perilous Rock,
And blest the Abbot of Aberbrothok.

The Sun in heaven was shining gay,
All things were joyful on that day;
The sea-birds scream'd as they wheel'd round,
And there was joyaunce in their sound.

The buoy of the Inchcape Bell was seen
A darker speck on the ocean green;
Sir Ralph the Rover walk'd his deck,
And he fix'd his eye on the darker speck.

He felt the cheering power of spring,
It made his whistle, it made him sing;
His heart was mirthful to excess,
But the Rover's mirth was wickedness.

His eye was on the Inchcape float;
Quoth he, 'My men, put out the boat,
And row me to the Inchcape Rock,
And I'll plague the Abbot of Aberbrothok.'

The boat is lower'd, the boatmen row,
And to the Inchcape Rock they go;
Sir Ralph bent over from the boat,
And he cut the Bell from the Inchcape float.

Down sunk the Bell with a gurgling sound,
The bubbles rose and burst around;
Quoth Sir Ralph, 'The next who comes to the Rock
Won't bless the Abbot of Aberbrothok.'

Sir Ralph the Rover sail'd away,
He scour'd the seas for many a day;
And now grown rich with plunder'd store,
He steers his course for Scotland's shore.

So thick a haze o'erspreads the sky
They cannot see the Sun on high;
The wind hath blown a gale all day,
At evening it hath died away.

On the deck the Rover takes his stand,
So dark it is they see no land.
Quoth Sir Ralph, 'It will be lighter soon,
For there is the dawn of the rising Moon.'

'Canst hear,' said one, 'the breakers roar?
For methinks we should be near the shore.'
'Now where we are I cannot tell,
But I wish I could hear the Inchcape Bell.'

They hear no sound, the swell is strong;
Though the wind hath fallen they drift along,
Till the vessel strikes with a shivering shock,¯
'Oh Christ! It is the Inchcape Rock!'

Sit Ralph the Rover tore his hair;
He curst himself in his despair;
The waves rush in on every side,
The ship is sinking beneath the tide.

But even in his dying fear
One dreadful sound could the Rover hear,
A sound as if with the Inchcape Bell,
The Devil below was ringing his knell.

I just finished "Dead Man's Chest," by Roger Johnson. He reports this as a sequel to "Treasure Island." It is clear he does not know a sloop from a schooner or a gaff rig from a lateen rig but the story is worth reading as a story. It ties in John Silver, Jim Hawkins {Lt, RN}, Paul Jones and others rather interestingly with the American Revolution.

Arrr! What with the Mudcat being down most of the day yesterday, I was unable to relate this story until this morning. Please forgive my tardiness.

Arrr, y'all. Jus' got back from a run inta town an' everbuddy down t' th' feed store wuz talkin' like pirates. I wuz jus' standin' there readin' th' label on a bottle obv pig wormer when ol' Zeke walks in an' says, "Ahoy, ya lot obv scurvy bilge rats! I be needin' ten bag obv scratch feed an' five obv layin' mash. Be loadin' 'em inter me truck whut's on th' starboard side obv th' buildin'. An move smartly, now!"

Now this ol' gal name uh Mabel wuz standin' at th' counter waitin' fer Jake whut runs th' feed store t' measure out sum collard seed fer her an' she didn' take none too kindly t' ol' Zeke jus' bargin' in an' throwin' his weight aroun'. "Avast, Zeke, ya ol' sack obv barnacle shite!" Mabel hollered at th' ol' codger, "I wuz here first an' if'n ya don't belay thet order fer thet scratch feed an' layin' mash 'til I'm done I'll be goin' up 'side uh yore head wif a grapplin' hook!"

Well, they wuz hollerin' so loud thet Deputy Jim Bob whut wuz next door eatin' luch at th' Live Bait an' Sushi Bar come runnin' in. "Arrr, me buckos!" says Deputy Jim Bob, "If'n y'all don' be belayin' all yer squawkin' an' carryin' on I'll be haulin' th' lotta yer t' th' brig!"

It wuz about then thet I remembered I don' even habv a pig no more an' thet I fergot somethin' er other obver t' th' Dollar Store so's I sorta snuck out th' door an' let 'em pirate folks work they own liddle problems out. I reckon mos' everbuddy'll be glad when t'morrow gits her so people'll be actin' an' talkin' like they normal selfs again. I ain't so sure thet lettin' rednecks talk like pirates is such a good idear.

Oh, utter nonsense! In addition to software you can pirate DVDs, CDs, MP3s and other stuff. None of that climbing up into the rigging during a storm or being hung in chains between the tides, either. Of course some of the software pirates might slap you silly with their hankies, but that's a risk of the job. And those white-collar prisons, why, you might not even have a graphite tennis racquet!

As for talking like a software or video pirate: "Well, I see we're several seconds short on the ending. Just sell it anyway. Nobody really cares how this turkey ends."

The answer to the question - Why do film pirates speak with a Somerset accent - simple - athenticity. A great many Pirates were from Somerset. Have a good look around some of the graveyards in Somerset - the stones with no inscriptions and the scull& crossed bones in each corner - that will be a pirate!

You see, open mike, one of the basic tenets of Pastafarianism (followers of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster are known as Pastafarians) is that there's a direct correlation between the increase in global warming over the last few hundred years and the decrease in pirates*. By actively participating in Talk Like a Pirate Day, we are also helping save the planet.

*There are those who claim that there are actually more pirates on the seas today than at any other time in history. But those aren't real pirates. They don't say "Arrr!" and drink rum. They're nothing but the seagoing equivalent of muggers and carjackers.

* Invented at Keele Hall, Staffordshire, as a punishment for unruly gardeners, who deserted en masse and took to piracy.

** I bet you didn't know Dr. Spooner was a pirate before becoming Master of New College, Oxford. He sailed the Mannish Spain flying the Rolly Jodger.

If this day is held as a holy day by the CFSM (Pastafarians), then surely they must also honour "'Saint' Robert Newton of Mummerset", the man who gave pirates their distinct accent and habit if speaking only in the present tense.

So I turns to face execution dock at Wappin', I raises me glass an' I drinks to the memory o' pirates past.

Welcome to the one and only, official, accept-no-substitutes Talk Like A Pirate Day Web site.

In the six years since Dave Barry mentioned us in his blog, what once was a goofy idea celebrated by a handful of friends has turned into an international phenomenon that shows no sign of letting up. Maybe you read about us on line.. Maybe you caught one of our radio or TV interviews. Or maybe you just stumbled on to our site while googling around for sites your mother probably wouldn't approve of. Or perhaps you're one of the millions of people from South Africa to the South Pole, from New York to the Pacific Northwest, who've made it your own personal excuse to party like pirates every September 19th (and sometimes for days after)!

So thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeee e are

Yes, very funny, also the one about the seagull poop... I love this holiday, why are pirates so much fun to pretend to be pretending to be?

This song was just forwarded to me via Bob Zentz and does reflect the spirit of the occasion:

Talk Like A Pirate Day

(Words and Music: © 2003 by Tom Smith)

Most days are like all of the others,
Go to work, come back home, watch TV,
But, brother, if I had me druthers,
I'd chuck it and head out to sea,

For I dream of the skull and the crossbones,
I dream of the great day to come,
When I dump the mundane for the Old Spanish Main
And trade me computer for rum! ARRR!

    T' me,...Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
    It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
    When laptops are benches God gave us fer wenches,
    And a sail ain't a low price ta pay!
    When timbers are shivered and lillies are livered
    And every last buckle is swashed,
    We'll abandon our cars for a shipfull of ARRRs
    And pound back the grog till we're sloshed! Yo ho....

Don't pick up yer phone and say "Hello,
Our ten-o-clock meeting's delayed",
Ye scrunch up yer face and ye bellow,
"AVAST! Ye've been bleedin' BELAYED!"

Ye can't keep this fun to yerself, I bet,
So sing "Aye!" "ARRR!" "Ayy!" every man!
We ain't got much grasp of the alphabet,
But a damn good retirement plan!

    T' me,...Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
    It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
    Whatever's in fashion is in for a thrashin'
    And bein' polite is passe!
    When it's ev'ry man's duty to grab his proud beauty
    And let out a hearty YO HO!
    And if this offends you, hold y'r breath as we sends you
    Ta Davy Jones' Locker ya go! Yo ho....

       We'll tell every banker "Heave to and weigh anchor!"
       Buy latte with pieces of eight
       We'll fight to be chosen as cap'n or bosun
       The loser, o' course, is worst mate!

       When we hoist Jolly Roger, the landlubbers dodge 'er,
       We fill 'em with loathing and fear,
       We'll plunder and pillage each city and village,
       Or at least clean out Wal-Mart of beer!

       There ain't no computin' or morning commutin',
       No "Parking Lot Full" signs for me,
       No lawns ta be mowin' or bills to be owin',
       I'm knowin' the pull of the sea.

       The fresh salty brace of the wind on my face
       Through hurricane, sunshine or squalls,
       I'm keepin' my eyes on the distant horizon,
       Verizon can hold all my calls!

To wear a red coat full o' buckles,
To earn a few duelling scars,
Well, at least we can get a few chuckles
By filling the office with ARRRs!

And maybe we'll never get closer,
Than watchin' 'em on the big screen,
So here's to old Errol and Depp as Jack Sparrow,
And every damn one in between!

    T' me,    Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
    It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
    That time in September when sea dogs remember
    That grown-ups still know how ta play!
    When wenches are curvy and dogs are all scurvy
    And a soft-wear patch covers your eye,
    Ta hell with our jobs, for one day we're all swabs
    And buccaneers all till we die!

    So hoist up the mainsils and shut down your brain cells,
    They only would get in the way,
    Avast there, me hearty, we're havin' a party,
    It's "Talk... Like... A Pirate" Day!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Okay people, look here... There are twenty-six letters in the alphabet. Count 'em. Twenty-six. So why is it that only "R" gets to be a big deal on Talk Like a Pirate Day? Does anyone ever say, "Emmm! Avast me hearties and swab the poopdeck afore I tickle yer gizzards with me pigsticker! Emmm!" No! It's always "Arrr".

Well, the other twenty-five of us have had enough. Consider this a warning shot across your scurvey bows. If we don't get some recognition, and get it pronto, we're going to board yer fleabitten sorry excuses for pirate ships, haul down yer Jolly Rogers, and shove 'em up yer communal arses! We demand equal representation!

GUEST, the Rest of the Alphabet, you are rather thoroughly addressed in "The Pirate's Alphabet" lyric, q.v.

I trust you will find yourself sufficiently acknowledged therein.

Ooooooh-errrr.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but a good way to identify yourself as a pirate afficionado is to stand on one leg,close one eye,and,imitating Robert Newton (the definitive Long John) exclaim lasciviously ;

" Who put sand in the vaseline ?? It'll be a rough passage tonight ! "

a pirate's life is a rough life...
so many missing eyes, legs and hands...

with eye patches, wooden legs and hooks,
the life of plundering and looting goes on!

I've been having a blast listening to my Avast program announcing to me, in piratespeak, that all my blackguards have been quarantined and such things as a ship's bell dinging, then, "Ahoy, matey, yer ship be secure!" It's much better than hearing the flat-toned, mechanical woman's voice saying, "Virus database has been updated."

Oh arrrrrrgh'it all went well shipmates! First of all mates I swabbed the decks so everything was ship shape before the crew woke up. Then plundered me piggybank for hidden treasure and loot to go scouring Morrisons's supermarket for grub to fill our bellies oh arrrrgh! The main reason for this quest was to get supplies of fruit to prevent scurvy and mutiny amongst the crew. After ransacking the aisles I came upon some grog to wet our whistles to go down a treat after dinner oh arrrrrgh!

So it was all hands on deck me hearties and a yo, ho, ho and a bottle of er, cider?!
