Subject: Lyr Req: Nursery Rhyme: Needles & Pins From: Mrrzy Date: 06 Jun 06 - 10:14 AM I know the end of it is Needles and Pins, needles and pins, when a man marries his trouble begins, but what is the beginning? Somethingda-ing, somethingda-ing, when a man's single he lives like a king. Even Google can't find it! Help! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nursery Rhyme: Needles & Pins From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 06 - 04:56 PM LXXIV. NEEDLES and pins, needles and pins, When a man marries his trouble begins. The above is from www.presscom.co.uk/nursery/nurs4th.html and that's all that there was to it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nursery Rhyme: Needles & Pins From: Azizi Date: 06 Jun 06 - 06:43 PM I don't know about that... Maybe we need to add a verse: Numbers and letter, numbers and letter. When a man marries his life becomes better. [Okay, so maybe the word should be 'letters' but then it wouldn't rhyme with 'better' and that's the point] **** How fitting! The first Google ad below this post is "Modern Mother Goose". The second is "Child care". But, it seems to me that that original rhyme was for adults and not children...And so is my modern version...Needless to say, if the married man's life is better, so is the married woman. So this rhyme is about Adult care and not child care. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nursery Rhyme: Needles & Pins From: Azizi Date: 07 Jun 06 - 09:43 AM It's good to have positive versions of this rhyme. It really needles me when folks put down married life. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nursery Rhyme: Needles & Pins From: Joe Offer Date: 07 Jun 06 - 05:34 PM Hmmm. I find this in the Real Mother Goose, but not in the Annotated Mother Goose or in any of the Opie books. It's the first time the Opies' Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes has failed me. This is all you'll find in the Real Mother Goose: Needles and pins, needles and pins, When a man marries his trouble begins. My wife doesn't like this one. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nursery Rhyme: Needles & Pins From: NightWing Date: 07 Jun 06 - 05:47 PM I can't imagine why she might not like it. After all, what's the leading cause of divorce? Marriage, of course! *LOL* BB, NightWing ... who is (rather obviously, I suspect) not married. |
