Thanks Sorcha,
My wife was hoping that the profits from Woody's EBay would afford more than alligator shoes and an armodillo belt. LOL
I made some $ but I've had more fun enjoying this site and realizing that the zeal my family has had for WOODY'S really is shared across the country. My wife still doesn't understand it......hense the shoes !!!!

Hello Carolyn
LOL...WAY back at the beginning of this thread someone mentioned Ocean State as a possible supply source. I drove from from Maynard,MA to the Cape..Boston..Springfield...Hartford and back and purchased as many jars as Ocean State had.
E-bay was great but...this link has been even more fun.
Sorcha, ClairBear, SF Bill, wonderful work on Faux Sauce. These recipes WILL be refined in case this situation ever happens again. I know that I'll continue to "watch" and see any and all comments concerning refinements of the recipes.
So, now that Woody's is coming back, how do I explain to my wife, at X-mas, the alligator and armadillo parts I requested from the Louisianna and Texas Highway departments ?

Hi, folks.

I just have to tell you that I have been following your posts for months ever since a friend gave me my first bottle of Woody's. I doubt she would have given it to me had she known it had been discontinued. Anyway, I loved it but, as you know, couldn't find it except at my local Ocean State Job Lot. It's no longer there anymore so I have been as disappointed as you.
I just went to www.woodyscookin.com (which I learned about through following your posts) and found links to two online sellers. They either have it now or will have it by mid November for mail order. Prices vary so check both.
Foodlocker.com seems to be most reasonable and allows you to sign up and they will let you know when it is available. It is confusing that they have it listed at more than one price...(6 @ 27.44 including shipping and 6 @ 33.93 incl. shipping)I suspect one was the old price and the higher one is the new price. They were formerly an online seller of this product.
The other supplier is asianfoodcompany.com which seems to have the product now and will sell 6 @ 41.95 incl. shipping.
SO, it is on its way!! Thanks for your efforts!! If not for you, I would never have found it again.
Some of your recipes look pretty tasty. I may have to test out some "home brewed" versions as well. You never know what might hit the spot....as they say.

After reading the request for people to reply at how interested they are to buy Woody's--are they nuts! Just read all these requests. I'm devasted at not having it for my brisket. I will hord my LAST bottle and maybe try the last of the trial recipes. Thanks for trying all these recipes. Can't believe there was ever any lack of sales. What a great Christmas present it would be to see Woody's back on the grocer's shelves! --are you listening?!

Bryan and Sorcha, I hope I didn't mislead you, but I'm just the webmaster, and not part of the ownership of Woodys. I can tell you that the owners are very serious about making their product available and maintaining the high quality of Woodys sauces. I appreciate your comments and enthusiasm as do the owners of the company. It's really exciting for me to see such devotion from fans of the product, and making their website a reality.

And Bryan, I think your obvious support of Woodys on this board is a tremendous help.

Thanks for your positive comments,

John

John,
As you may understand, there are a LOT of us who are sceptical(?) concerning the return of Woody's. Lack of "real" information in the beginning, resulted this wonderful website as well as a nationwide "rediscovery" of a product that has been around for almost 100 yrs.
You, and your backers (?) have been able to do what MANY of us were willing to do months ago. Maybe. The efforts around the country to reproduce or "mimick" WOODY'S has been an effort of Love for the product and a Hate for Reily foods as to it's situation.
I applaud your purchase and I, along with the rest of the WOODY's "FAMILY" out here, can only hope to see this product offered once again.
I, for one, am more than willing to offer WOODY's any help I can in order to expand awareness of what was a wonderfull product. Time will tell.
CLAIRE, SOSHA, SF BILL,
whadya think?
Bryan

Hi all. Just a note to inform you about Woddy's website...

I am the webmaster for woodyscookin.com and noticed some comments about the site's lack of completion. I started building it on November 3, 2007 using text and graphics from a site someone else started. Yes, we need to update the graphics and content, but thought you'd rather have something to refer to than wonder what happened to the product.

We hope to have the site finished by the beginning of next week with new pictures and extended content. There are also plans for a page that will enable you to share your favorite Woodys recipes with others.

If you'd like, I can post a notice when the site is completed.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

John

From their website: "WOODY'S"® Sweet 'n Sour sauce will add that special flare to your cooking.

Gee, I hope they mean "flair" -- otherwise they may have to rename it Woody's BurnIn Sauce!

Cheers,
Michael

Further -- Their website has finally hit the Internet! http://www.woodyscookin.com/sauces.php

They still need to have their webmaster do some work, but the presence IS there! I'm hoping for the very best, but if it is a troll it's pretty damned elaborate. Not that this site has a lot of them, though.

One thing to note: The pictures of the sauce bottles on the site are NOT sealed. If they were sealed, the tops of the caps would be pulled down by the vacuum. Nope, they're relaxed.

Jennifer, I am 71 years old and have been using Woody's over half that long. Our four children were raised up on Woody's and were still using it when it was avaiably. We bought our Woody's at HEB markets here in San Antonio. Our daughter in Denton Texas bought at Albertson's. These are the only chain stores in SA and Denton. We are looking forward to the day that we can again find our Woody,s.

I bought a case of Woody's last year when it disappeared from my Safeway. I'm glad I did - I still have a couple bottles left.

I just received an email from www.asianfoodcompany.com saying they're taking orders now for shipping "after November 15th."

From their website:
Ingredients: .1% sodium benzoate, anchovies, carmel color, FD&C RED No. 40, flavoring, hickory smoke, onions, potassium sorbate, salt, soy sauce, soybean oil, spices, sugar, tamarinds, tomato paste, water, white and wine vinegars, xanthan gum.

Hello fellow "Woody's" fans,

I to have been "lurking", not only on this site but a great many others, for the purpose of gauging interest in the "Woody's" brand of sauces. I must say it has been overwhelming and worth every minute. I am not only a fan, but a consumer of "Woody's" as well. So much so I helped purchase the brand.

I have read a great deal of posts concerning "Woody's" and the subsequent return of the sauces. I can inform of this,"Woody's" is back! As you can imagine getting production started is a very daunting task, but rest assured we are doing everything possible to make sure "Woody's" gets to market as soon as possible.

We are moving forward with starting production and should have it available for purchase mid to late November of 2007. I apologize for the lack of any formal response concerning "Woody's". Our efforts have been focused on getting "Woody's" back to you as soon as possible.

Thank You,

Being a member of San Francisco's volunteer disaster community, I decided to reopen their "gear store" when it was closed by a Fire Chief that is mostly remembered as mean. That may or may not be true, but access to shirts and other gear was reduced to a vacuum, which also happened to Firefighter friends of mine who actually made the gear.

OK, I decided to fix that, and opened a web site several years ago - before 9-11. Yes, as one of my products, I carry a line of Barbecue sauces that was developed by a San Francisco Firefighter - long since retired.

It is not MADE by me, but a professional food manufacturer. I carry it as part of my line of San Francisco Fire Department themed gear (and flavors).

Since you asked, here is the link: http://www.sffdgear.com/barbecue.htm

This has nothing to do with the Woody's debacle. If, however they want me to distribute their product..... Better me than nobody!

Now, just hold all yer horses...and give them a chance. I haven't given up on the Real Thing yet...but I've not given up on making it at home either. I just have to use up the stuff I made that isn't quite right before I try again.

There IS a limit to how much 2 people can use. (There is???) Yes, really, there is. I can't eat BBQ every night.

Yeh I know bout them habeneros, I grew 2 plants in my garden this year, smoked'em, dried'em, and ground'em - you cant even take a small pinch of it! I just ran everone from the kitchen as I just picked the last of my jalapenos. I cleaned and started to boil them (trying to replicate jalpeno tabasco)and all ran out rubbing theree eyes.

Hey Bill thank for that info I always the name was some kind a book or color so who's up to bat for the next trial recipe?

YES I'M A NON BELEIVER IN WOODY'S RETURN I think if they are going to break out you should herE some type of hype espesially on the internet. Like I stated earlier type in Woody's on GooGle and everboby is as lost as we?!?!?!?!?!?!??????????????

Oh! I forgot. I filtered the extract before boiling down. have a lid ready beacause there WILL be flare-ups. NOT an inside job!
Just in case someone wants to make "Extreme Woody's"
And I can't stress this enough! NOT AN INSIDE JOB ! BOIL SLOWLY!   DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED!
I'm sure Bill doesn't want to mop up after an Extreme Woody's kitchen disaster. He probably cringed at the mere mention of boiling alcohol.

Bill,
I would imagine that some of your FD themed bbq sauces are heat related. If so, would you please give me the website address.
I like heat. My brother-in-law, even more so. One of his favorite hot sauces so far I happened to make using Woody's. I took around 20 fire-dried habeneros pulverized them in a blender, soaked that in a quart of everclear for about a week(capsaicin is very soulable in alchohol but not in water). Then I boiled that down (outside)to about a 1/4 cup split a jar of Woody's added 1/2 of the extract to each. added enough water to be able to shake it out of a Tabasco bottle and, voila! Woody's with fire to go with the smoke. You wouldn't believe what that does for a ham and cheese sandwich.
Oh, and the extract? It's so hot it'll make your teeth itch!

Yo Bill..I'm with you
Just waiting for "Mudcat Sauce" w/"original flavoring" to be available here in Massachusetts. Send me some and I'll have the guys try it out at the Station and send you a critique. DUHH As if they wouldn't eat anything !
I can't seem to get them to experiment with the recipe's yet. I guess I gave them too many jars of the original !
Still awaiting "REAL" word concerning the "new" owner. Something seems fishy about the approach so far however, if I'd been able to acquire the recipe & patents, without the facilities to produce it properly (smoker (?), jars, labeling, alligator/armodillo/sasquach poo...) heck, it would take me a while also !

Keep experimenting & posting
Bryan

Slick: That would be project Bluebook. Our secret name could be project Red Bottle. If the UASF has a similarly-named project, it's so secret I don't know about it, so we might as well use it.

I do feel like we have been fed untrue material.

My personal opinion may be strange, but here it goes: If I were to have the money and wherewithal to buy the brand and recipe, I would want a return on my investment as soon as possible.

If I didn't know how to do a website - which some say I do - I would certainly hire some kid to create one for me. That done, I would reach out to those folks interested in the sauce - say by Googling "Woody's Sauce". Again, some kid would tell me that, or do it for me.

Within a few days, I would have the website up with "Returning SOON!" for all of us to savor. As soon as the first batch was cool in the jar - perhaps as it was still cooling - I would be ready to ship out to cash-paying customers! Let it cool in transit!

Let the supermarkets follow. Maybe I know nothing about marketing in the traditional supermarket chain, but I do know something about markting.

I actually have a website that sells a Fire Department themed BBQ sauce that is SOMETIMES available in supermarkets. My site is just a dependable source - which supermarkets aren't.

I may not sell much, but I'm selling 100% more than the alleged Woody's site - which isn't selling anything! (I could have used rougher language, but didn't).

Bill

I guess nobody could remember the name of the UFO project? I think it might have been something like operation (ham hock)? I can't recall I was a kid. So nobody wants to join the (I'll figure out how to make Woody's)secret society?

Wow -- an actual human seems to have responded to MMario. That's encouraging...I was beginning to believe, as Darrell postulated, that it was some sort of arcane plot to keep us from recreating the product. Which, of course, it could still be...

However, I'm undaunted, and I'm not planning to sit idly by while the new Woody's gets -- or fails to get -- of the ground. My sauce re-creation efforts will continue right after the Getaway.

I e-mailed requesting a list of retailers: this was the response.

Thank you for inquiring about Woody's cook-in sauce.
At this time, we are working on production.
We are anticipating production to begin in the next few weeks.
In addition, we will be offering Woody's direct via our website in the near future.
We will notify you when production begins.

Best regards,

Jennifer

Hey, I just read through a lot of the posts here. I live just outside of Reno, Nevada and would be happy to go there and plead our case. Yes, I am a closet woody's cook-in sauce addict! I am almost ready to pay the crazy price on e-bay.

So, please post the address again and I will work on it......

IN PERSON!!!!!!
Woody's Foods PO Box 34477 Reno Nevada 89523-9998 doesn't work.

I am serious. Someone find me a physical address and I will make face to face contact.

Thnx for your help.

I think we need to come up with a group name like, What was that secret UFO file back in the 60's? I think we are getting real close just need to slow down, think and refine! I won't stop untill this puzzle is hanging on the wall

Darrel, it's never too late -- just wade on in, the Woody's is fine, but we certainly haven't reached perfection yet!

Reily foods Has a lot of money resting on this recipe and if they see you getting close, they would probably say anything to to cool your crocks. First they said "we're looking for a buyer" then they said "We found a buyer" then they said Production in a couple of weeks....Then they'll say....Something.
I think Bill hit it on the head. paste "schananigans!" (I had to copy that because I have no idea how to spell "shenanagains".
See. Told ya)
Anyway, all of you cooks must be getting close. I'm just sorry I couldn't help. It would be a pleasure to be part of a team that makes the corporates writhe.
