Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: Einnor Date: 06 Oct 98 - 02:34 PM Hang on to something solid folks, I just placed the order for my Mud Cat T. I am hoping it will be the first one in B.C. Canada. I will wear it proudly with the confidence that I am nearly bullet proof with it on. |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: BSeed Date: 06 Oct 98 - 11:52 AM Actually, it may have been Joe's shirt that made the 'cat crash. I think when the wind is from the east Joe's shirt adds to the Bay Area smog. --seed |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: Zorro Date: 06 Oct 98 - 05:13 AM Hey Joe Offer; Getting back to the theme of the thread, you might want to consider washing your shirt during those unfortunate times that mud cat falls and can't get up. Or, get an extra shirt. The shirts are really comfortable. I'm proud to have one. And I got my wish. I have the first one in the Houston Folklore and Music Society. ZORRO |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: O'Boyle Date: 05 Oct 98 - 11:49 PM Hey Zorro I possibly have the same mando a Fender FM-52E SB with a bis butterbar pickup on it. I like it very much especially for the price I got it. The only draw back is the pickup is a single coil and has a tendency to buzz when I stand in the wrong place in relation to the amp. Any one got any suggestions as to how to fix this? Slainte Rick |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: Einnor Date: 05 Oct 98 - 09:59 PM Regarding the mandolin, Zorro, it sounds like Bob is in for alot of fun. I am very fortunate in finding a tear drop shaped Gibson [EM 150] electric mandolin in Reading Pennsylvania. They have a very nice sound but the factory electric takes alot away , but awsome with an amp. |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: Zorro Date: 05 Oct 98 - 06:17 PM To Einnor: It's a tear drop mandolin, a Fender I believe. I know next to nothing about mandolins, I'm a six string man myself.. any way, banjo bob loves it.. tired of all the banjo jokes...) |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Oct 98 - 04:13 PM I had my trigger finger ready on the "delete" button, Zorro. I was sure this was one of those Spam threads we've been getting a bit of lately. This is one crassly commercial message I'll totally agree with, though. Every true Mudcatteer needs an Official Mudcat T-Shirt. I wear mine every time I Mudcat. Since I've done a fair amount of Mudcatting since I got the shirt a few months ago, I suppose it might be time to wash it, but I have's gotten around to that quite yet. Hmmm. Reminds me of a song...click here, if you dare. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: EINNOR Date: 05 Oct 98 - 04:13 PM dON't keep us Mandolin lovers in so much suspence, give us the details of the instrument and yes I just gotta get one of those MTC. |
Subject: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE..... From: ZORRO Date: 05 Oct 98 - 04:06 PM Mudcats and Mudkittens; I just got my Mudcat T shirt and it's beautiful. On Saturday, Bob (banjo bob) and I went to 111 music stores in and around Houston (Texas) until Bob found the perfect mandolin. I wore my MC T shirt. Well no one came up and asked for my autograph and while I'll confess that I've always been rather suave, debonaire and handsome, I felt more so in my MCT.. To repeat: YOU JUST GOTTA GET ONE OF THESE (THOSE). ZORRO. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Coralena Date: 03 Sep 97 - 02:04 PM Laoise, I have a strong adversion to anything promoting drinking. Do you believe folks from the Hills or Country are "some sort of hillbilly sippin' whiskey"? I love what is simple and basic and that to me is what folk music is.I was born and raised in the country and I don't sip whiskey but I am very fond of a tall cold glass of milk. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Laoise Date: 29 Aug 97 - 06:01 AM Ok so my Mudcat sounded a little over the top. Yes I agree Coralena, a cool mudcat just wouldn't be right, but then I don't see him as some sort of hillbilly sippin' whiskey on the porch either. I like the idea, however, of a Mudcat incorporated into a Celtic design, like the wolves designs, etc. I have one with dolphins which could provide the base to work with. For the accountants among youse (Whip - I respond to your valid point) you would only need one colour. EG dark shirts with highlight design or vice versa. Would that be simple enough for youse all? Can't wait for the finished article. Laoise |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: John Nolan Date: 28 Aug 97 - 10:04 PM Whippoorwill: I speak as one who's wife designs and prints T-shirts, and as someone who markets them all over the U.S. Don't be afraid of color. It costs $10 to $20 up front for each additional color separation, and the same for each extra screen. Assuming you start with a very modest initial printing of 10 dozen, each color will only add an extra 35 cents (max) to the cost of each shirt. And that's a one-time cost only. Factor in another (recurring) 15 cents per color during the printing process = 50 cents extra per color per shirt. Thus a six-color shirt (which looks great) will cost $2 more to produce than one with just black+ one color. After the first printing, any subsequent printing of the shirts incurs only the 15 cents per color extra. A skillful printer can also use half-toning and blending to make six colors seem like eight or nine. Thus, shirt designers should keep a good printer in mind, and work closely with her/him, particularly at the ink color (Pantone matching) selection stage to ensure a happy outcome. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Whippoorwill Date: 28 Aug 97 - 05:20 PM For every color, another pass through the screen printer. Another $5.00 (more or less) added to the price of the shirt. Old programmer's formula: GIGO - KISS = FUBAR. Keep it simple. Secret handshake? Sounds great. Password?

Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Sheye Date: 28 Aug 97 - 12:21 PM I'm in. Personal taste/preference/opinion: less is more. Keep it simple. With the continued discussion and input from the brilliant folks leaving their marks here, we will end up with a perfect, classy signature. Didn't someone once mention a secret handshake?? |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Coralena Date: 28 Aug 97 - 11:50 AM I can't say I care for the shades or the wave. I feel Muddie is a little more down home than Mr Hip or Mr Cool. I see him standing by a cypress on the bank of the Mississippi, maybe a straw hat, with his fiddle. Moss is hanging from the tree and maybe there is a riverboat off in the distance. He could be sitting in a rocking chair on a front porch of a little shack by the river. Gotta go for now. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: dani Date: 28 Aug 97 - 11:32 AM Oh, I love it! I'm for dark colors, and mudcat.org would be terrific. I like the idea of the slapped fish - it works if you're more culinarily than artistically inclined! I hate slogans, but when I think of the tone of this database, forum, and catfish on the muddy bottom, and groups of people gathering to make music, I feel like JUMPING IN... |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Laoise Date: 28 Aug 97 - 04:22 AM A black one with a Celtic design surrounding the Mudfish who is playing the fiddle, wearing a pair of shades while surfing a wave up a delta. Are you still waiting for artwork Max? If so I will try and send something in the next few days. Slan go foill Laoise. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Sharon Date: 25 Aug 97 - 06:24 PM Are the t-shirts still being worked on/ |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Harald Date: 20 Aug 97 - 12:38 PM And where to have a look at the ideas ??? |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Whip Date: 28 Jul 97 - 03:34 PM Fiddlin' fiddler sounds good. (Fiddlers are what we midwesterners call foot-long catfish in their proper habitat: on a plate.) No slogans, please, Max. Fascists buy T-shirts too... some of us. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Coralena Date: 28 Jul 97 - 03:17 PM I like mudcat.org and it works well with a fiddle playing catfish. Will there be hats too? |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Allan Samuels Date: 27 Jul 97 - 10:05 PM Just got back from vacation and purchased 3 tees and 1 sweat shirt. One of the tee shirts had a print of a real fish on it! (very handsome) Apparenlty they paint a real fish and slap it on the shirt to make the print. It is most unusual. This may be a somewhat high priced item but what a knockout! What ever you (or we) come up with, I want one.XLG Allan. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Max Date: 26 Jul 97 - 02:37 PM The Mudcat started at www.mudcat.com, then Ellicot Industries (a division of Caterpillar that deals with dredging equipment)threatened me to give it up. I ended up negotiating a sale and a donation to charity and I gave it up. Appropriately so because we sould be a .org because of our non-profit status. We can get mudcat.org, and I think we should. I'll still keep deltablues.com pointing to the same site we are all so used to, but mudcat.org may solve the too-many-identities problem. And if I keep deltablues.com, there should be no confusion for those used to that. mudcat.org may be better on the t-shirt too. Any thoughts? |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Max Date: 26 Jul 97 - 02:29 PM If anyone wants to snail mail any designs, send them to: THE MUDCAT CAFE 5 W. Gay St. Suite A West Chester, PA 19380 Anything I get, I will put on the web and get to dick to take a look at. I figure we'll collect ideas for about 2 weeks and show them all to you. Should be cool. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Max Date: 26 Jul 97 - 02:26 PM I have an artist drawing up a few catfish doing various things. I am partial to one playing a fiddle aside the delta. We will certainly have multiple versions and let you all vote on them before we commit. Soon... |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Max Date: 26 Jul 97 - 02:20 PM How about a slogan: "Dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of Folk and Blues Music." or how about: "This website kills fascism." |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Carl Date: 26 Jul 97 - 12:11 PM Is the t-shirt discussion all through now? Or is somebody working hard on it collecting all these great ideas ? It is possible to have a look at first results? It would be great if it would work out. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Alan of Oz Date: 17 Jul 97 - 07:56 PM Coralena, Who me? Never! Dare I say "If the shirt fits wear it". (Sorry). I'm used to being picked on but for a different reason - cheeky youngsters suggesting I'm past it. Won't mention any names here. Mine will be just an average Aussie bloke size. Cheers, |

Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Date: 17 Jul 97 - 03:45 PM Dick.. T-shirt design is my business. I have been a professional illustrator and graphic artist in the imprinted sportswear industry since 1981. My work has sold in resort areas and national parks from Hawaii to Main, from Yellowstone to Disneyland, to Dollywood, and everywhere in between. I suggest you keep it simple as you first suggested, with a small front print with the logo, and your phrase on the back. A dark blue shirt with light blue ink printed on it would work better for both men and women than the light blue shirt. I freelance for a number of manufacturers, and I can help you out in getting bids on the shirts and printing. Alice in MT |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: rechal@earthlink.net Date: 17 Jul 97 - 03:44 PM This thread's only been up a few days...perhaps those of us with artistic tendencies and/or friends could have a couple of weeks to scan in and submit designs?
since blues are a major part of DT, it would be nice to have a blue t-shirt...and I love the idea of a mudcat-fiddle-playin' amphibious creature..... |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Coralena Date: 17 Jul 97 - 02:06 PM Isn't this fun:) I would rather order mine through snailmail. XLarge is a comfy size, they do tend to shrink and one size fits all doesn't work. Alan of Oz, are you trying to pick on somebody? |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Alan of Oz Date: 17 Jul 97 - 03:19 AM What Helen said, but I'm not fussy about colour and what about a kangaroo :-) This has been revealing! I can almost see you now that you are stating your T shirt sizes! Cheers, |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Helen in Oz Date: 16 Jul 97 - 09:49 PM Count me in - although I'd prefer a dark colour :-) I'll order it from Oz so I'd need to know the overseas postage rates too. I like the idea of Muddie the catfish playing a fiddle, or something musical - a fiddle is a good crossover instrument between blues & folk, so I think it is a good choice for that reason. Helen |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: RS Date: 16 Jul 97 - 08:38 PM ... or how about some samples, if you have more than one "likely candidates", and we could post comments or even vote??? (cyberdemocracy in action!) |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Kiwi Date: 16 Jul 97 - 06:55 PM I like this idea.. would it be possible for you to scan in and post a .gif or .jpeg of the design when you decide on one, so we can see it for ourselves? |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Whippoorwill Date: 16 Jul 97 - 04:52 PM Bert: *groan!* Dick: Can I get one with pockets? XL, color immaterial. I think it's a great idea, no matter what pattern you use. Gotta admit, I am partial to catfish. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Bert Hansell Date: 16 Jul 97 - 04:47 PM Dick, you started with a simple idea and people just came along and muddied the waters :-) Bert |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: suzy Date: 16 Jul 97 - 04:39 PM Dick. You can't please us all. Use your best judgement. I'm sure we'll alll just be happy that they're available and will be anxious to get ours. |

Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Sharon Date: 16 Jul 97 - 09:01 AM Delta, Mudcat, DT, It's music we're all about: Folk & Blues. Let's keep the music idea going, whether it's a fish or people (personally I like people type folk playing my music, but if others want a fish to play it I guess that's OK....) |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Coralena Date: 16 Jul 97 - 07:46 AM Mudcat is my pick and I see Muddie or Muddy playing a fiddle by the Delta. Gosh I wish I could draw what I see in my mind. He could be by a river which would unite mountains and delta. Muddie is repersenting both blues and folk music I take it. I'ld be happy just to have Muddie on the shirt, about 3 inches tall on the left side of the front of the shirt, no pocket. Maybe you would want him on the back and large. These are suggestions, I don't mean to be pushy. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: dick greenhaus Date: 15 Jul 97 - 11:19 PM ANy artwork can be sent in GIF, TIFF, JPEG, BMP or whatever graphics format as an attachment to an E=mail to digitrad@world.std.com We seem to be suffering from a surfeit of imagery and names. Between deltablues and Mudcat and Digital Tradition and music and fish and cats, I'm not sure WHO will get the idea. We're open to suggestions, though. |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: RS Date: 15 Jul 97 - 11:05 PM How about a few other odds & ends, for those of us who don't wear t-shirts much ... in particular, carry bags, buttons, coffee mugs? Once the design is set, it's not much more complicated to transfer it to other kinds of materials ... Hey, this would help out with the financial support discussed in another thread! |

Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: Susan of California Date: 15 Jul 97 - 07:53 PM I'm not picky about color/design, I just want one! |
Subject: RE: T-Shirts From: suzy Date: 15 Jul 97 - 06:29 PM I like Coralena's idea. Mudcat doing something musical. Maybe even a mudcat JAM of instruments. By the way, where dild the forum get the mudcat name? |
