Might as well add this one, too, it just keeps getting more interesting, too! I'll get these all added into the list by tomorrow. Thanks!

"Lone Fish Ball," the first version from 1855, in the thread.
Your way probably best- change the title too much and the person checking might think he has errored.

That's fine, George. I'll go with what you guys post, okay? Any clarification can be in parentheses and I will do the cross-referencing as much as possible, when it seems a good idea. Thanks.

Katlaughing. Sometimes I use the thread as named, but other times, I (like on the Waltzing Matilda series) try to clarify by the more common name.

Dicho, please submit them, exactly as the thread is named. I like to keep the links literal, BUT you could put the real song title in parantheses. In the case of the Weary song being added to that thread, I see two options: 1) I will cross-reference with both titles 2) you could copy and paste the Weary song info into its own thread and I could link to it.

If any of you would prefer I do it a different way, please let me know. I am always open to suggestions.:-)

Thanks, I will add the newest later today.

kat

Lads of Virginia -Weary in Virginny, O
The history of an entirely different song (Weary...) was added to this thread. I have tried to add it to the original thread title. Still has to be printed twice so it can be found.
How should these be submitted?

Ha! *bg* Sorry, George, I should have made note of my adding that to the list. I had the inside track in that Mary in KY told me about it in a PM before she started the thread. I left it with the old spelling, though. It's pretty tough to "scoop" you!

Thanks, guys!

Great finds, Simon-Pierre, nice to see you!

Dicho and George, I've put a note beside both listings to see the other, so people looking for either, "Ballad" or "Massacre" will know.

Kat and George, the list is useful in another way. I ran across Oh, Dem Golden Slippers! on the American Memory site. The song is in neither the DT nor the thread put in your permathread, so I added it to the thread you cited. It is now easier to make additions and corrections, at least to those songs on your list.

George Seto's original thread: Origins of: Found on Mudcat is getting a bit long, so here's a fresh one to post your links and comments.

BTW: this symbol, ^^^ , means I have transferred your link from this to the permathread. So I don't get confuzzled.:-)

Don't forget, we now have a Song Origins PermaThread, where your contributions will be added to the alphabetised list.

Thanks!

kat
