Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: 3refs Date: 06 Aug 09 - 09:42 AM No doubt in my mind that the guy has some explaining to do. What bothers me about his extradition is the way in which it was done. I know we, as a country, have been trying to give him the boot for at least 10 years, and that Germany has been trying to get their hands on him for just as long. As a nation of "Law", I see no reason for our government to be above or below it. When there is an opportunity for a person to take an issue to a higher judicial body, and that opportunity is not made available(as opposed to it being denied)something is wrong! Remeber, he is a Canadian Citizen, and he deserved the right to appeal the extradition all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. "Speaking at a snap hearing at the 361 University courthouse earlier this afternoon, Schreiber's counsel, Ed Greenspan, said the timing of the order was a deliberate attempt on the part of Federal Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson to ensure Schreiber's extradition will take place before he had a chance to file an application of judicial review." If Eddie says it, it must be true! |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: alanabit Date: 06 Aug 09 - 05:06 AM Hey 3 refs, we like Canada and we like Canadians. Honest! It is just that some of us think that Karl-Heinz Schreibner has been a bit of a bounder elsewhere. Hiding among good folks does not make him one of them! |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: 3refs Date: 05 Aug 09 - 09:24 PM I had to go back to my origional post to find out where I said irregardless! OK! It makes no difference to me who he's been associated with(proven or not, speculation counts for a bit). Lebanon, Egypt, Saudis Arabia, Palestinians.....and who knows who else. I'm talking about CANADA. And I've chosen to believe that we do things here, the way they should be done, everywhere!!! I know that sounds a little pompous and conceited, but that's the way I see things through my "rose coloured glasses" and I hope that's the way most of the world sees us! From coast, to coast, to coast, to the boarder! Taking me and my arsenal, and going to defend the arctic! |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: 3refs Date: 05 Aug 09 - 08:08 AM I don't want my government trying to be covert operators when everyone is watching and their not very good at it. It is the federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, in concert with the federal Minister of Justice, that manages Canadian participation in extradition treaties and conventions. Any major decision should not be left up to a Justice from the Supreme Court of Ontario. Not the usual panel, but one Judge. We have to remember that extradition is a much different animal than deportation! |

It has long seemed to me that if you are a hood on a big enough scale and you wear a nice suit, you are virtually immune from prosecution. I take small comfort - but comfort nevertheless - when occasionally one of that number is subject to the law. |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: gnu Date: 04 Aug 09 - 06:12 PM He'll be sitting comfortably on a tropical island soon, having been well paid for his part in the scam. And the whole bunch will enjoy a round of golf and drinks, all laughing their way to the bank. And, the scams going on now will continue to take a back seat to the monkey grinder that has been putting on this show for years. Fuckin pathetic. |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: meself Date: 04 Aug 09 - 05:51 PM So are you saying that, after ten years of wheeling and dealing in order to forestall his extradition, Shreiber did not receive ample notice of extradition? Maybe I'm missing something - which is possible, because, to be honest, I haven't followed the case closely .... |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: 3refs Date: 04 Aug 09 - 12:08 PM I have no use for the.......whatever, either! On the Friday of a long weekend they give him his walking papers. His lawyer Eddie(Perry Mason)Greenspan recieved notice that his client was to report for deportation within 48 hours. By Sunday evening he's gone. They appear before one Ontario Supreme Court Judge to appeal and are denied! It's Justice, not Just Us! |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: meself Date: 04 Aug 09 - 11:30 AM "No other country extradites its own citizens" How do you explain this thread: Hacker extradited to the US ? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: GUEST,appreciative Date: 04 Aug 09 - 08:16 AM Indeed, "I thought we were above that kind of thing in this country." First, Karlheinz Schreiber was not deported. He is a Canadian citizen for 27 years and was extradited. No other country extradites its own citizens, including Germany. Instead it tries them in its own courts for crimes committed elsewhere. Schreiber was always clear he was quite willing to face trial in Canada. Second, Schreiber does not face charges of gun-running. The accusations in Germany have to do with the German Army selling tanks it already possessed to Saudi Arabia. No evidence in any country Schreiber was involved in arms. Third, Schreiber has never been charged with any crimes in Canada. The issue for Canada relates to its own politicians and political culture. |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: alanabit Date: 04 Aug 09 - 03:39 AM I am very happy to see that Canada has decided to return Herr Schreiber to face charges of bribery, tax evasion and gun running. In view of the fact that one of Germany's most notorious gun runners (Franz Josef Strauss) got away with it so successfully that after his death no more was said about it and an airport was named after him, I would like the truth (or otherwise) of the allegations to be established before a court. Would that also not be the best place for Herr Schneider to loudly protest his innocence? |

Subject: RE: BS: Karlheinz Schreiber deported! From: Ebbie Date: 03 Aug 09 - 04:42 PM "Aug. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Karlheinz Schreiber, a German- Canadian lobbyist and arms dealer, has been handed over to Germany by Canada after ten years of legal battles against his extradition, Deutsche Presseagentur reported, citing Canadian Justice Minister Rob Nicholson. Schreiber's wife Baerbel confirmed that he was put on a plane in Toronto, the news service said. Schreiber, a central figure in a political scandal over donations to Germany's ruling Christian Democratic Party, is wanted for tax evasion and bribery in Germany, according to DPA. The lobbyist battled extradition since 1999 and lost a last ruling over the issue over the weekend, DPA said. Schreiber told reporters in Toronto his extradition was politically motivated, because Germany's Social Democrats hope to use it to win votes in the September national elections, the news service reported. Schreiber's attorney Edward Greenspan didn't immediately reply to a message left to his voice mail after business hours." http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601100&sid=as_yFY1GO1.o ?? |
