Subject: RE: BS: Recipes for green tomato chutney please? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Aug 10 - 11:10 AM My neighbor gave me a jar of her green tomato relish, and it's a wonderful sweetish relish. I've since then tried a couple of other versions of it, and I had a bunch of green cherry tomatoes that had to be picked (I had a bunch of volunteers and couldn't get into the garden any more because of them). I got them before they started to blush and gave enough to a friend to make and can a batch. He's even entered it in the state fair this year! Last year I had tons of green tomatoes at the last frost and am sorry to say that while many of them slowly ripened, a lot of them went into the compost. Never again! SRS |

Subject: BS: Recipes for green tomato chutney please? From: Richard Bridge Date: 24 Aug 10 - 09:16 PM I seem to be likely to have quite a lot of green tomatoes. Has anyone any suggested recipes? The ones found by googling seem likely to be a bit sweet and not as explosive as I remember my old next-door neighbour making, but she was old stock, having been married to a Colonel Slaughter and actually stationed with the British Army in India, don-cher-know. I recollect no apple flavours in hers, but possibly pickling spice and maybe a hint of clove. Chili and maybe ginger could have been in there too. |
