(Welsh speakers may disagree, especially 'Gogs')

*ll    this is the tricky one. Put the tongue to the roof of the mouth, exhale over the top of the tongue while making the 'l' sound (and moving tongue to the back of the lower teeth)

No need to ask for a 'phonetic' version. The language is phonetic (if you know the letters). The extended alphabet (including dipthongs & accents) are enough to read the Welsh straight from the page.
O, and the pronunciation of the letter 'y' (a vowel) depends on where it is in the word, being either 'u' (as in hut) or 'i' (as in hit).

LOL... The best parody-phonetic version of that song I ever heard was from a Welshman.

Years ago (no, make that decades) when I first moved to London from the States, I asked him to teach me the native words, simply because I loved it so much. You should have heard what he came up with! (And no, I'm not going to post them here. More than my life's worth.)

I do think Wales got it right when it comes to national anthems. I've always felt that America's should be America The Beautiful, which has a much better melody and is easier to sing. I also like its sentiments, a simple celebration of natural beauty rather than rockets & bombs.

I have just discovered lurking on my PC a Word document dated October 2000 with these words alongside the original Welsh ones and the footnote "credited to Swansea poet Nigel Jenkins". Does anyone know of him?

The English version I am familiar with goes:

Whales, whales,

I have also heard a version which runs something like:

I don't normally get the Times, but there was a free one when I bought Private Eye from WH Smiths today - and in a rather over-strained "funny" page about how English Rugby fans are supposed to be switching their allegiance to Wales now that England has been knocked out of the Rugby World Cup, there's a "phonetic version of Land of my Fathers", which might be quite useful.
