Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 10 Oct 14 - 12:36 PM I was to get the CD reissue of this album; now I'm pondering. I was expecting something other than the songs, but it doesn't sound as good as I expected. |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 10 Oct 14 - 12:26 PM Thomas, I've scanned the LP notes and made a small webpage about it. Tom Paxton - I'm the Man That Built the Bridges (1962) Hope this helps. Jason |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 10 Oct 14 - 12:42 AM I will scan a picture of the notes within a couple of days. |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Thomas Stern Date: 09 Oct 14 - 10:32 PM The CD has NO notes, just track list, publication and performer credits. From Jason's post, I assume the LP had notes for the songs. Can someone provide a scan or transcription of the notes??? THANKS! Disappointing the PAX did NOT include the notes, or at least provide a copy on their website. I am not a fan of this "digital" age where any documentation, annotation is not provided. Thomas. |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 09 Oct 14 - 09:16 AM Gerry - That was a typo, I guess. I finally got a physical LP of this album last month - two of the songs were credited as "Traditional": Mary Ann and Columbus, Georgia (which actually is Columbus Stockade Blues). And one was credited "Adapted by Tom Paxton": The Fatal Glass. The liner note (which is actually printed on the back of the sleeve) said that Tom learned Mary Ann from Ian & Sylvia. Jason |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 18 Sep 14 - 08:53 PM A few pposts up, it says, "All songs written by Tom Paxton." But at least one of the songs, Mary Ann, goes back a century earlier. |

Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Thomas Stern Date: 23 Jul 14 - 12:07 PM Jason, the link takes me to AMAZON to an mp3 - not a CD. Is there a pressed CD with notes available somewhere??? Thanks. Thomas. |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 23 Jul 14 - 11:37 AM The album is finally officially available on CD: Click Now the ones left are: Something in My Life, Saturday Night, The Paxton Report, Bulletin, In the Orchard and Folksong Festival. Hopefully all these albums will get digitally released soon. |
Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: GUEST,Robin Date: 21 Jun 14 - 07:26 AM I'd be very interested in an MP3 copy of this album. TP apparently has a couple of copies (as he has said) and modern technology can quite effectively eliminate clicks etc without affecting the quality of the recording. Another album (a cassette tape in fact) that would be good for re-release is TP's 1986 FOLKSONG FESTIVAL. Traditional songs influenced by TP's admiration of Burl Ives. Three of these tracks appear on the CD The Best of The Vanguard Years - but a full re-issue would be great - especially for us complete-ists! |

Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 09 May 14 - 12:15 AM If this site is reliable (I think it is), then Tom is now working on that album's digital reissue. Hopefully soon. Following mail copied from that site: Hi all, I'm posting this on another's behalf. Tom Paxton is working on a reissue and needs a clean copy of the vinyl. Title: I'm the Man That Built The Bridges (Recorded Live at the Gaslight Cafe) Year: 1965??? Matrix #: GV-116 Publisher: Gaslight Greenwich Village Recording Corp. Subject: RE: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: GUEST,Rev Bayes Date: 05 May 14 - 02:29 AM I seem to recall there were legal issues around the album so an official release was at one point at least unlikely. I think the 2000 copies refers to the print run, not how many were sold... |
Subject: Copy of Tom Paxton's debut live album? From: GUEST Date: 05 May 14 - 01:46 AM Hi Friends, I wonder if any of you have copy of the 1962 debut album of Tom Paxton, called "I'm the Man That Built the Bridges". It was recorded at the Gaslight Cafe, two years before Tom's first studio album. I searched discogs, Amazon, iOffer and eBay, still not a single copy for sale did I find. The album was limited to about 2000 copies, so I really didn't expect to get an original LP, but I can't even find a bootleg cassette or ripped digital copy of that recording anywhere. Are the tracks from that album still available to listen? I was thinking, though, that this album is kinda similar to John Denver's 1966 debut album "John Denver Sings", which was initially limited to even less copies (less than 300), but got an official CD release recently. So will Tom's 1962 album get an official re-release someday as well? |
