However, it also seems quite clear that very few of us want "our" forum to be taken over by those who would wish to make it a place of combat and chaos. And no I (and others) do not what to see it taken over by a few posters who may not want this - but by there actions have succeeded in doing just that. Someone ALREADY has control over what we choose to post, and exercises that control pretty lightly. If YOU cannot accept THAT then maybe YOU should go away and form your own forum. When those whose best efforts - by their own admission have failed to impose their required peace - it is they who should be forming their own private club and leaving our forum to all those who Max opened it for and who do need to be constantly changing it to better suit our requirements. Changes which now involve a certain few posters minding everyone elses's business and encouraging others to do the same by setting this example.

It the meantime, pick a temporary 'handle' so we might be able to discuss it with YOU, and not lump you in with 27 other nameless guests. It is quite easy to change your name here, and once done, you probably have a better idea now how to avoid such problems. I hope you will make the effort-- there are many, many members who have never had any real problems....naturally, if you choose controversial issues and take extreme positions, you attract responses. |

The only reason for this additional proposal to further restrict or 'review' all Guest postings on the music forum (where there does not seem to be any problem requiring any change) - is the Chief of the Mudcat editing Team's proposal to restrict the BS section to members only. As he now admits the failure of the current measures to impose the peace that he requires. This is a classic case of 'putting the cart before the horse'. The BS section now acts as a safety valve for the music section. Leave it alone to operate as this and no changes need to be imposed on the music section. Neither section needs to be fixed as neither are in fact broken. They are functioning as well as they ever could be. Those behind these proposals and those who support a private members club are welcome to go away and form one. They are not welcome to try and turn our forum into one - simply because they cannot accept that no one has any control over what anyone else chooses to post. |

The few who abuse this ability are often quite a problem. I gather the main moderators can usually sort out which is which, and deal with them when necessary....but it is VERY time-intensive work for unpaid staff. It would sure make it easier if there were SOME sort of filtering process and/or waiting period or limitation of type of post. |

I was also one of the many who came in here as a guest to start with, to see what it was all about. I think I made a number of postings as "Guest" before I decided it was good and registered as a member. It would be a shame to lose that. There's too much 'policeing' of life in general, it would be a pity to find it on Mudcat as well. Love Lynne |

Perhaps this thread can remain in the music related section for the benefit of those posters in this section who will be affected by this proposal? I'm open to any and all suggestions, but it seems to me that it's time for members-only posting to BS, with membership paswords sent only to those with valid e-mail addresses, and for full review of Guest posts to the music section before they are released to public view. I see no value in the continued combat we've had, or in our continuing to protect the anonymity of those who want to cause trouble anonymously. If you have a better idea, express it. Try to say something new, something true, and something constructive. Joe Offer I have no idea exactly what this 'full review' of Guest postings will be or who will be judging what is suitable for releasing to public view - so perhaps this 'review' and the reasons why it is judged to be needed after all this time - could be explained in more detail? It would be nice for any future contributor who may drop in to post as a Guest to have a say on this also - but this will not be possible. |
