Subject: Tech Q From: Susan from California Date: 16 Jul 00 - 08:28 PM I have an old computer, plain old pentium w/out a II or III, and I would love to listen to HearMe. I am fairly sure I don't have either the sound or memory capabilities, and I know that I don't have a mic. I am hoping to buy a faster computer in October, what should I look for so that I can listen to HearMe-- and if I get really brave, even sing something sometime? |
Subject: RE: Tech Q From: Ed Pellow Date: 16 Jul 00 - 08:33 PM Your computer sounds better than mine, and I have no problem. Jon Freeman mentioned in another thread that the requirements are: Windows 95/98/2000/NT 500KB disk space Pentium 100 MHz or faster (200 MHz recommended) A sound card Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, Netscape 4.08 or later, or AOL 4.0 or later.* Microphone (headset model recommended) Speakers Have you tried to connect? Subject: RE: Tech Q From: Susan from California Date: 16 Jul 00 - 08:43 PM My computer has 100 Mhz, and I have tried to connect, and got bogged down in the middle. I thought I'd wait until my 18 year old son comes jome for a weekend and can help me if I do something really stupid and can't figure my way ou. I'm also not sure about the soundcard...the microphone headset sounds like a good idea! |
Subject: RE: Tech Q From: Jon Freeman Date: 16 Jul 00 - 08:48 PM I don't know what the lowest spec amongst those who have sung/ voce chatted but people have managed to connect and listen/ text chat with as little as a 486. As Ed has said, the chances are that you will be ok - and the way to find out is to try it. I used a P133 for ages before upgrading to a 500Mhz PC and I have noticed no difference in performance with Hearme although it has speeded a lot of other tasks up considerably. Jon |

Subject: RE: Tech Q From: Callie Date: 16 Jul 00 - 08:51 PM Susan: I use the little mic that came with my walkman. Not as good quality as a proper mic, but good enough. And cheaper! |
