Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The Unicorn Man Date: 11 Jan 07 - 12:04 PM Yes it is not like me to be drunk on any afternoon. I have normaly sobered up from the morning by then, ready for the evening. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:15 AM Wind update - Duncan the dog was found at the mother in laws, the roof was found all over Worcestershire and the kennel has not been found at all. The Installations Manager was found in the pub. So alls well that ends well. Still blowin a gale here. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:23 AM The Installations Manager was found in the pub. So the old saying "it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good" has proven to be true then. Glad the dog was found having landed safely from his (presumably) first flight. Strange, I replied to Ross's post yesterday but Mudcat seems to have eaten it. Unless it got blown away too? (Has anyone else ever had that happen? i.e. making a Mudcat posting only to find later on that it has vanished. It's happened to me a few times, but not often enough for me to be sure it's not finger trouble) |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:25 AM I forgot to add: unless the pub the Installations Manager got blown into only sold Greene King ales (to Unicorn Man). |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 12 Jan 07 - 08:43 AM Hi Yes, I think all the witty, enlightened and informative comments that I have posted seem to have disappeared Scrump. Jez night was very good yesterday. I hope there'll be no wind tomorrow - I am off on an M25 jaunt and want the bridge open. pleeease. Then it's rugby and work and Vinn at Hitchin on Sunday. So vacuuming is on the back burner. I am still waiting for my Christmas puddings in the post so I will leave the Christmas tablecloth on until they arrive. Nice weekend all - I'll keep my eyes open for loose kennels in Kent. Cathy |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: breezy Date: 14 Jan 07 - 08:57 AM It was breezy in Leeds on friday Hope you enjoy Vin , he is the 'Guv'nor', shame we were only able to have him once at Windward, still its good that he is recovered and back in the groove, you could hear hospital tales tonight Dont forget next Sunday |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 14 Jan 07 - 11:24 AM Hi John Weekends on the Barton thread can be a lonely place without you. Jez seemed to miss out the line 'get ready Cathy' when he sang Latch Key lover. I didn't bother him about it. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 15 Jan 07 - 06:41 AM Sorry all for deserting you - I hope it was a nice weekend I had a nice one It's Barton folk this Wednesday - all welcome |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 15 Jan 07 - 07:53 AM Happy Monday Vinn was good. Don't these 'stars' get a whopping build up.... a lot to live up to. Scrump - Is there singing at Little Wymondley tonight? The third Monday? Is that still on? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 15 Jan 07 - 08:58 AM Hi Cathy I was told by Alan that the Mondays had ended It was just a device to get the pub known for live music Alan said - 'job done' Not sure about the last Friday gigs though - Scrump? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The Unicorn Man Date: 15 Jan 07 - 09:31 AM Where's Scrump?? Just when you need him. That sounds like hell on earth. A pub that only sells Green King I.P.A. That would get me on the waggon. The Globe tommorow night 11 hand pumps and great accoustic music. That is more like it. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Jan 07 - 09:35 AM Hi Cathy and Ross I missed Vin last night (was a bit knackered, and had seen him not long ago). Glad you enjoyed him anyway Cathy. Yes, the Mondays at Wymondley have finished - I guess if anyone wants to start them up again, they could ask the landlord? (We have our band practice on Mondays as a rule, which is probably the main reason we stopped doing them.) As for the Friday gigs there, yes they are still on, but I can't remember who's on this month. I'll ask Alan tonight and report back. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Jan 07 - 09:41 AM Hi Unicorn Man At least the Buck's Head doesn't sell Greene King. I think it has Fullers London Pride and one or two others (I don't remember there being anything particularly exciting though). At least it has real ale though, and none of it from GK :-) |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 16 Jan 07 - 05:13 AM To answer your question Ross: the next gig at the Bull's Head, Wymondley is on Friday 26th Jan. It will be a duo Bob Smithson and Dave Notman (mainly mandolin/guitar I gather), with a support act from Malcolm Hobbs (another regular at Baldock). (apologies for any typos, typing this on the train) |

It's his final farewell tour *but don't read too much into that, 'cos I've seen his last 2 FFT's previously*. I strongly recommend seeing him to all folkies - he's one of those seminal artistes who still surprises you with new material. See you all at Barton tomorrow (Wednesday). |

You intentionally put your fingers on the wrong keys on the keyboard, either above or below and type a word, or for the bright people a whole sentence, then some else has to guess what the word should be. Or you see if you can make another word up ie., issue becomes ossie (I think) or something like that - well it helps to pass the time (and I get paid for it !) bg cld nla ! |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 17 Jan 07 - 06:44 AM Hi, Barry Goodman passed this to me, apologies if you are on on his list also so you got this twice! Alan ########################################################################################### Thought you might like to know that there's a Barn Dance at Harpenden Public Halls on Saturday 27th January with Fiddlin' Around, caller Barry Goodman. The dance starts at 8:00 and finishes at 11:30, and costs just £8.00 a ticket. Fiddlin' Around are an exciting twin fiddle band put together by Junction 24 frontman/fiddler Brian Stone with the intention of developing a high energy acoustic string sound that is also uplifting and exciting to dance to. The two fiddlers work together so that an interplay of both rhythmic and melodic variations will produce a dynamic flow of exhilerating fiddling. The band is keen on promoting the interest/popularity in French Canadian and Cape Breton music as well as music from New England and North America. The dance is promoted by English Miscellany, who will provide a display-spot at the interval. Hope to see some of you there! Cheers, Barry Barry Goodman 54, Ickleford Road, Hitchin, Herts. Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 18 Jan 07 - 06:44 AM Glad you all had a good time last night. I was at our gaff to see Jez Lowe - great evening, with a cracking support set from "Moses and the Ref". I thought I had the night off so didn't bring my guitar, but unexpectedly had to play a song (to accompany Alan) at Jez's request, and Steve "The ref" kindly lent me his guitar (I couldn't borrow Jez's because his is left handed, and I would have had to stand on my head and face the wall to play that). Jez lent me his plectrum though (I nearly said pick but I thought you lot would start making jokes about digging up the car park). |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 18 Jan 07 - 07:32 AM Me again Aren't bricks wonderful little things? The trellis on the wall of my house has been trying to escape in the wind, but the clematis won't let it. So what do you use to weight down the end of the to stop it waving about everywhere? bricks! It's like the old days when you used one of your stockings as a temporary fanbelt. Mind you - I will have done it all wrong in somebody's book - either killed the clematis or bent the trellis. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 23 Jan 07 - 04:31 AM Unicorn Ceilidhs present... FRIDAY 26th JANUARY 2007 - FENDRAGON Fendragon are a ceilidh band based in Cambridge, who play traditional English folk music, with some Irish, Scottish, French and American influences. They are a popular feature of the local ceilidh scene, and in demand further afield. Mary Humphreys (keyboards) and Anahata (melodeons) are both well-known, and here they have teamed up with Dave Holland (fiddle) and Gina Holland (flute), to create a versatile band that love playing for dances. "Lovely stuff" according to Verity Sharp, BBC Radio 3 More information at http://www.fendragon.co.uk The Caller for the evening is the young and effervescent Andrew Swaine, also from Cambridge. Andrew believes that ceilidh dancing '…is lively, accessible and unencumbered, a living tradition of community dancing for fun. Enjoyment is more important than accuracy'! http://www.swaine.me.uk/ The interval entertainment this month is from the Brafront Guizers, who will perform their particularly off-beat but definitely seasonal Mummers Play at Hitchin! http://tdrg.group.shef.ac.uk/Gallery/Brafront2004.htm Unicorn Ceilidhs take place generally on the last Friday of the month at Hitchin Town Hall, Brand Street, Hitchin, Herts.
