Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: GUEST,My Guru's Guru-pied Sh'elfless Scout-Elf Date: 07 Dec 06 - 05:00 PM Dear Ed (I don't know about YOURS, but MY Guru's always Ed), If the response to the sneeze was yours, then I am indeed truly among the blessed! I'm glad to have you humming internally. I've not heard the song in question, though. The late, great Charles Mingus once put out an LP called "Me Myself, An Eye", according to The Boss. I just play electric uke-bass, myself. The size of those stand-up types scares the Hell out of me! Speaking (or at least thinking) of the lovely Meemyse, I ran into her last weekend as she was coming out Of Murray's on Live Music Night. She'd apparently gotten through with her "human g-nomic research" and had dumped that gnome Chompsky for an ex-cop with a motorcycle, some troll they call "Highway Pat". "I guess to gnome is not to love him, after all.", I thought. She smiled sweetly, waved, and said, "Ten-Four, Good Buddy!", and hopped on the back of his '52 "Gene Vincent Black Lightning Jr.". Then, much like that "other" famous Vincent, she turned a deaf ear on me as she deafiningly, almost definitely, roared out of my life, possibly "Van-gone" from me forever, though we are all supposed to leave here and report back to Elf Central in a few weeks for reassignment and the seemingly endless in-processing lines to wait in to clear old paperwork. I might get to catch a glimpse her while standing in one of them. As I walked into Murray's with my heart even further broken than before, I saw that my Elven bandmates Jones and Bishop had already set up the equipment for the audition I'd talked Murray into giving us. The place was already crowded and I got to thinking about that oldie we sing about someplace we've never been assigned to in the U.S., "Kansas City". "They've got some crazy little women there, and I'm gonna get me one." Hell, looking around the room, Louisa May Alcott didn't know the half of it! We opened with that one and did two more, and Murray said he could work us in on the next weekend before we leave town. I must've sounded good, because some cute but not very intellegent young sprite named Nottapha took an immediate interest in me. We hooked up that night, and I'm going to see her again tonight after she gets off from her job at an upscale home furnishings shop called "A Sprite Decor". She's nothing I'd take back to meet The Boss, but young Nottapha Sprite will serve to help ease my sorrow until I have to depart from the UK. Hell, Santa probably sees me when I'm sleeping and will have a video to hold over me, but who cares. Your packages are probably on their way already, and I'm assigned to stay around until I'm sure you have recieved them. It has been a pleasure to have been your shadow, and I'm sure it will continue to be for another week or so, living life in secret places, possibly under buildings near you. Your Winding Downwn Scout-Elf, Elfish Pressently |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: GUEST,Greg Stephens' SS Date: 07 Dec 06 - 08:03 PM Mymymy, I've finally got everything gathered and wrapped. Don't count on seeing me at the Santa Sleepover at the Alton Towers theme park, though (although the dodgems are a temptation). I delegated that gig. no the package will be mailed out around 9AM, Mudcat Standard Time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: GUEST,Barb'ry's Salt-rimed Secret Santa Date: 08 Dec 06 - 10:38 AM Almost done all seven seas now -- one of your prezzies was on a slow boat to China, but I intercepted her in the Bay of Bengal and was able to make off with the booty. Yer prezzie might be there by Christmas, Barb'ry, but if it's Old Christmas instead, don't lose hope. Yes, Barbara, there really is a Santa! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: GUEST,My Guru's'Elf Explanatory Instruction Giver Date: 10 Dec 06 - 07:26 PM The presents will actually be mailed tomorrow, Santa tells me. The smaller one should be opened right away but the larger box will have to wait for Christmas to be given your rapt and unwrapped attention. If you disobey, and your leatherheaded old keepers don't discipline you severly enough first, then your presents will automatically turn into either coal or pink fluffy Dougals that won't fit (You dodged THAT bullet last year, but maybe not forever, so be good!). We have ways, means and powers you never dreamed of, even with the obsolete equipment they give us! Sorry if you got so much story that you couldn't always tell which were actually the clues, but they were there. If it wasn't quite the same guessing game you had last year, I hope it entertained you as well as the heap of presents undoubtedly will. The Boss will be watching the threads to grade us on our job performance in order to reward or punish us with next year's assignment. Unfortunately, as Mudcat Secret Santas are revealed at the end of the year, the elves you encountered this year can not be assigned to Mudcat again, but don't ever stop believing in either us or in Santa, who DOES always get to be a recurring character. The weekend gig went well, and Nottapha Sprite is already trying to put pressure on me to take an offered job to front a house band at Murray's, but as stingy as Santa can be, between The Boss and the Union, I'm guaranteed year-round globe-trotting employment of some sort. I guess I'll be heading home soon. Jones and Bishop kid me about developing a bit of a local accent, so I guess it's getting to be about that time. You've cast a far better shadow than most I've had to walk in, so thanks again. Your shaking-loose, half packed Scout-Elf, Elfish Pressently |

ETA unknown, but please feel free to open any or all of the parcels whenever you feel like it. After they arrive, of course. Your Secret Santa, who had lots of fun choosing your presents. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: Helen Date: 12 Dec 06 - 08:15 AM So you want me to try and guess who you are before the present arrives because your name is on the parcel? Or was Babelfish just babbling? My first thought, when I read your first posting on this thread, was Catspaw. It was just that gleeful, evil-sounding laugh. But I'm probably wrong. Maybe I could guess the place of origin of my Secret Santa. Is the Spanish a clue? Maybe the southern states of the US? Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: My guru always said Date: 12 Dec 06 - 03:46 PM Dear Elffish Pressently, Many thanks for all your hard work on my behalf, I really have been very impressed (and also quite flummoxed) by your words and storyline over the past weeks. Your story has been a present in itself, for which I also thank you. I'm sure you tried hard to give me all the right clues to track down my Secret Santa, but alas, I appear to have failed in my quest and so, I have also failed you. My apologies for this lack. Be assured that I do still believe in my Own Dear Secret Santa (and yourself of course), and that I have been very, very good recently, though I am starting to fray a little around the edges and will soon revert to normal I'm sure... Wishing you & all others who are working so hard on behalf of their Santees a relaxing and joyful Christmas/Yule! |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: Helen Date: 12 Dec 06 - 04:48 PM Hmm, not Geoff the Duck but the geoduck. From the northern part of the continent of North America. So, maybe down near New Orleans or somewhere in the state of Louisiana, with a history of Spanish invasion and where there is a large proportion of people with Acadian/French heritage? Which would explain the link to geoduck territory. How am I doing so far? Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: GUEST,My Guru's Re:Assuring Scout-Elf Date: 12 Dec 06 - 05:06 PM Dear-Always Ed, Santa says, "Don't be frayed! Yule find Noel's no time for Cowardice! 'Ell, No!" (Though, I think The Boss had some on the Maternal side of the family, ironically enough) I'm glad to be someone you can feel you Noel by now, even without a name! Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: JennyO Date: 13 Dec 06 - 05:19 AM Helen, I think I might know where your multi-lingual Santa is from, but I'd better not say. I might spoil the game. Meanwhile, I think I've sussed my Santa. The address on the package was VERY familiar, and I don't know many OS addresses of Mudcatters. Still waiting anxiously for the one that rhymes with "family". I'm expecting another package from a different source as well, and our postie often puts packages in stupid places, instead of the letterbox - particularly a planter box near the front door. That's where my Santa's first package finished up. So I'm keeping a very close eye out - don't want anything to go missing! |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: Helen Date: 13 Dec 06 - 04:23 PM JennyO, does it have anything to do with a line in the song Wait for Me Juanita, by Captain Matchbox? About guavas? And Multilingual Santa, you might have to give me another clue. Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Clues and Nudges From: Helen Date: 14 Dec 06 - 03:27 PM All right, I'm just clever enough to get *that* clue. :-) You've got to admit that, for a non-US-er I was close with my guess of Louisiana, geographically speaking. Six flags took me on a bit of a detour, because I was assuming that it was flags of 6 countries, but they weren't distinct/separate countries. But I was wrong about the Guavas in Guam. So not Naemanson at all. Rats! That theory had a few matches, because Naemanson is originally from Maine, and has been to Oz, I think, therefore your comment to JennyO that you have "crossed paths". So now I have to figure out which one of our Texan Mudcatters you are. Do I get any clues to do that, please? Pretty-please?! Helen |

I wouldn't worry too much that I was interested in your post on the other thread about making gifts out of dryer lint - tho it is so nice and soft, isn't it ;-) Had any new postcards lately?
