And I have heard that it was the Irish monks who inventedwritingtextswithgapsbetweenwordsthusmakingthemmorereadable. Forget linebreaks - without word breaks, where would we be? Penny |

Subject: RE: BS: What have the Celts ever done for us From: GUEST,Brian F. Hannon of ARDBOE County TYRONE Date: 02 Nov 02 - 07:39 PM According to Clever Men and Women of Education the Mesolithic Peoples first settled Ireland at the Mouth of The River Bann . They decided to settle there when they saw the Vast Shoals of Atlantic SALMON arriving each late Winter heading up river to the the Great Lake NEAGH and its ten rivers System . The Indigenous Peoples all over the Watershed harvested this Bounty of The Great Spirit from then till the Year 1661 when an English King gave the Monoply of the Salmon Trade , and The River Bann , and LOUGH NEAGH all 102,790 acres of it to Reward the Military Services of a WARLORD by Royal Charter to the WARLORD's HEIR . The Crown also had earlier rewarded THE HONOURABLE THE IRISH SOCIETY with Fishing Previleges in the tidal portion of the River . These Royal Acts DELETED all IRISH Rights till DATE , the Indigenous Native Irish Fisher People being just mostly ignored and barely tolerated to harvest the Coarse Fish For FOOD and Subsistence Economy there after till date. That is NOW this YEAR 2002 . Seeing as This Is JUBILEE Year Might Not It Be A GOOD IDEA that one of YOU ENGLISH should suggest to your Queen to return LOUGH NEAGH and The River BANN back to THE IRISH PEOPLE seeing as ten generations of Grantees have reduced the Shoals to Remnant Numbers . You have only two months left to achieve this . |

Subject: RE: BS: What have the Celts ever done for us From: GUEST,Billy Date: 02 Nov 02 - 11:49 PM Sorry Guest, I don't understand why you have posted this stupid (and if you think it is true just send your bank account number to them)letter from OBO as it has no relevance to the thread, but at least most Celts can write in proper english, thanks to the Scottish educational system. Unfortuneately, due to the long English domination of these islands, very few of us now speak the celtic languages, in which some of the most exquisite songs and poems have been written, and translate awkwardly into English. The music is our gift and continues to be heard across the globe. |
Subject: RE: BS: What have the Celts ever done for us From: Coyote Breath Date: 03 Nov 02 - 12:07 AM Oy vey! is this a silly thread? or what? I'm stuck here on a Saturday night, archieving thousands of reeeely old "folk" music songs to MP3 files so's I can write them to a buncha CDs which take up less space, &C. What are the rest a youse up to. So belfast, did ya see that the SF bookstore has a new book about yer man? sincerely yours, Chuck E. Arlah (yankwank) I need another beer! Jeanie West can't sing! Joe Glazer sounds like he is singing for the masses and believes they are too dim to understand his words. Cisco Houston sounds as though he considered himself God's gift to women. Only Guthrie sounds like a real person, singing real songs. Maybe a little rum would help. CB |
Subject: RE: BS: What have the Celts ever done for us From: GUEST,Boab Date: 03 Nov 02 - 03:58 AM Hey! Enough o' this doin' down Scottish inventors!Mr Belfast---the man who built and rode the first bicycle just happens to be my Great-great uncle, Kirkpatrick MacMillan [long deceased] . He built his bike in the smiddy at Kier , near Dunscore, in Dumfries-shire, and rode it all the way to Glesca, where he was fined for colliding wi' a young lassie. There is a bike displayed in the museum by [Constable's ] Flatford Mill, which is claimed to be K.MacM's original---though I cannae vouch for the authenticity o' that. |
