Happy St Michaels' day - Venerated as one of the three Archangels, one of the seven who stand before the throne of God; Patron saint of demon killers, several islands and underwear.

My Michaelmas daisies are actually true to their name this year (last year they were over and done by my birthday), a delicate pale purple, they look stunning against the green and gold ivy behind them. Well, they did til the cat rolled over them.

It's also a quarter day - the year is 3/4s over and it was traditional for country people to change jobs at this time. Quite often, this meant moving house too, to a new farm or area.

So... to celebrate this, I'm moving from my seat by the door to that one over there by the window. And I think I'll have a Green Dragon cocktail to celebrate... Barkeep - bring on the Creme de Menthe!

The quid slowly wakes from his slumber and wonders why the world has gone blue and also why he is now attached to a duck by a part of his anatomy that shouldn't be attached to anything other than another squid.

Wallpaper???...................... Flock off!!!

"But having such a big penis does have one drawback: it seems that co-ordinating eight legs, two feeding tentacles and a huge penis, whilst fending off an irate female, is a bit too much to ask,"

No wonder the squid wants to stay in the jello pit.....

Just one question.... is it a girl duck or a boy duck?

LtS have you been peeking again?? Or is it a case of penis envy? Many members of the female gender of a "certain age" seem to develop this although not usually about cephalopods. I wonder if there are any dolphins amongst your ancestors. I have not yet ascertained the sex of the duck although I beleive it to be a male of the species (which in itself is worrying). I have 'Googled' ducks but this particular variety seems to be a one off, even the Wildfowl Trust has been of no use, beleiving me to be quackers!

Cats, please don't introduce geese into the equation, it's bad enough being tied to a duck.

Barkeep, give me a large stiff one - whisky that is.

Mayhap a female giant squid is encased therein, ready to spread joy and ink everywhere.

Or a sperm whale, ready for a night of jello-rasslin'.

Or it could be a pack of pachydermal piccolos, with the pachyderms on the way if they didn't get lost.

I think that I shall today go to Salt Lake City.

Phone rings.
"Hi. Vatican City here, Pope's Right Hand Man speaking....WHAT!? (Puts hand over mouthpeice.) Your Emininent and Really Great Holiness, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that Jesus is on the phone. He's come again. The bad news is that he's calling from Salt Lake City."

SLC -- where they have just opened a boutique DISTILLERY!!! Yes! And they have several breweries that make decent beers, too! Like Polygamy Porter ("Bring Some Home To The Wives." "When one is not enough!")

It's for a meeting, actually. I'll still be a the Tavern. You can't get rid of me that easily.

You humans are a funny lot, fancy making cocktails from guitars.

Down here in the deep the drink of choice for the discerning alky is Sea Slug Surprise, shaken not stirred of course otherwise the sand settles at the bottom. Served with a sprig of kelp and a slice of sea cucumber.

The surprise is that it tastes almost entirely unlike tea.

Don't try squeezing the lime into it either.. that's the sea slug.

Right now I'm sitting in my room at the Little American Hotel drinking...COFFEE!! Straight up!! Black!! Caffienated!!

The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Coffee!

Squiddy, do you know that they serve your relatives here? They call them "calamari" so that nobody knows that they're really squids. Octopodi (which is what they call octopuses), I mean, they're just dumb animals, right? But I do think that this "calamari" thing has got to stop. Before you know it people will be squid-baiting, bringing in Sperm Whales to watch the fights and all. It's brutal and neither humane nor squidane and I for one refuse to be a party to it.

Ah, Rapaire, yes I've heard of this calamari business from my Italian and Greek cousins. Barbaric I call it. In fact Great Uncle Sid was talking about getting some of his North Pacific mates together to go round and scare the shit out of some of these calamari peddlers. You know the score, appear suddenly from the deep waving tentacles about and rocking a few boats. Have to watch out for these marine scientist types though because all they can think about is size, as if that matters, and those tape measures they use are bloody cold on wet appendages.

Pure heresy MMario, we are a pure breed and have nothing to do with fancy, colour changing beasties. What did Darwin know anyway, he had to write a book just so he could learn things from it himself.

Hope you were all out celebrating the Harvest Moon last night... didn't see much of it here, it was pissing down. Still.... the corn is in the barns, the hay is in the loft, the sloes are in the gin and the cat is on the dryer.

We're spending the day in an industrial fashion, preparing our radiators for use - so hopefully tomorrow night we'll be warm. In the meantime, there's the last of the 2yr old sloe gin to be ingested, so save me a chair by the fire, I've got some pine cones to sling on it - that'll clear the sinuses, and the moths!
