Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: Roger the zimmer Date: 22 Apr 99 - 05:30 AM Don't know the Cool Hand Luke answer, the Footprints on the dashboard verses are in the DT under HUMORESQUE (after the tune). I've heard and could provide if wished a 2 verse version of the "footprints" song as delivered to that tune by Brummie comic and sometime folk-club compere Jasper Carrott (aka Bob Davis) Roger |

Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: Charlie Baum Date: 22 Apr 99 - 10:04 PM Odd--I know a completely different "Footprints on the Dashboard"--it's sung to the tune of She'll Be COming 'Round the Mountain, and the first line is: "There'll be footprints on the dashboard upside down." The song I know is much bawdier than the one in the DT, and I'll have to overcome a lot more inhibitions before I'll post it with my name attached to it. --Charlie Baum |

I've been pretty good at using the litterbox lately and he might let it go as an accident. catspaw |
Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Apr 99 - 02:12 AM Hey, it's a song, ain't it? Aw, go ahead and post the dashboard song. Charlie, send it on to Catspaw privately and I'm sure he'll proudly take responsibility. But is it certain that's when cool Hand Luke sang "Plastic Jesus," with a banjo right after after his mother died? I have to admit the scene that sticks most clearly in my mind was the car wash. At the time I saw the movie, it appealed to my adolescent prurient interests. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: searcher45 Date: 24 Apr 99 - 01:02 AM It's indeed after his mother leaves, or he hears his ma has died. I haven't checked the archives yet, and will be delighted to find complete lyrics. In my last band, I sang that song, impromptu,a cappela, while the guitarist was lighting a smoke, or something. Didn't know all the lyrics, but the rest of the band fell right in behind me, and the audience loved it. Don't know if you folks know of Don Imus, big NYC radio personality; he simulcasts on MSNBC, I think. Anyway, he spent a few years in Cleveland OH USA in the 70's, and often used that song as part of his Rev. Billy Sol Hargus gig. Pretty funny stuff, but you had to be there. Would love to hear some dirty lyrics; am firing up another band, and would love to sing some horny old songs. Those that don't get, talk about it, I guess... Bill searcher45@hotmail.com |

Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: Yes, Sir Date: 24 Apr 99 - 01:25 AM Strother Martin....great character actor, and an Olympic Gold medal swimmer, 1920-1930's. Also starred with Paul Newman in Slapshot, a great movie. A woman, can't remember the name, wrote the screenplay. Story was her brother played minor leagure hockey, and she'd stick a tape recorder on the bus, and catch some great stuff for a movie. But I digress....I checked the archive, and couldn't reach the 365 day thread (out of memory). Neither version in the archive contained the lyrics, of the 2nd verse,I remember (that's the operative word here) Paul singing. So, did he not sing... candy is dandy but liquor's quicker (from Ogden Nash) all the cocaine's in Costa Ricker ain't nobody's business but my own Also, I don't remember Paul singing a chorus. (If I had a VCR, I'd rent the damn movie and be done with it.) Bill searcher45@hotmail.com |
Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: Banjer Date: 24 Apr 99 - 06:55 AM How about rent a damn VCR and THEN rent the damn movie? Or, better yet, find someone with a VCR, rent the movie, by a sixpack, pop some corn and make an evening of it... I can't remember if Paul Newman sang a chorus or not either, but I do remember, (I think) a second verse... |
Subject: RE: cool hand luke From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Apr 99 - 08:34 AM We ran a thread much like this back in February. Paul sang 2 verses. This is (hopefully) the First and this is the Second. And don't forget Ol' Strother was in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" too. Strikes me there were a couple of other Newman movies he popped up in too. catspaw |
