Subject: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: CarolC Date: 03 Dec 09 - 12:54 PM http://www.radiotower.com/cat-folk.html I just found this site a couple of days ago. I haven't listened to very many of these yet, but so far I love this one from Norway... http://www.radiotower.com/player.php?channel_id=3915 |

Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Mark Powell Date: 04 Dec 09 - 11:46 AM Thanks Carol- I've always loved Scandinavian traditional music in general and this station has a great selection of it. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Jack Campin Date: 04 Dec 09 - 12:12 PM Doesn't work for me (using Firefox on the Mac). Hungarian Folk Radio does work. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Mark Powell Date: 04 Dec 09 - 04:09 PM Try Google Chrome- by far the best browser software around. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Bill D Date: 04 Dec 09 - 04:34 PM Google Chrome...with very few of the bells & whistles I am used to...I will keep watching. Screamer Radio (for Windows only) has hundreds of pre-set stations. Nexus Radio has lots of features also. (I haven't used it recently, but it worked ok months ago) Yes...Windows only. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Bill D Date: 04 Dec 09 - 04:52 PM I can't seem to get access thru the RadioTower site... I think they require you to have exactly the settings they demand, and I always mess with javascript and default players. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Jack Campin Date: 04 Dec 09 - 05:25 PM Google Chrome still doesn't exist for the Mac. I tonk I tried Opera on Radio Tower as well without success. The problem doesn't seem to be the browser itself, but the way the site insists on using Windows Media Player. Maybe there's a more direct link to the Scandinavian station that a program like VLC or Miro could use? |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: Bill D Date: 04 Dec 09 - 06:16 PM If VLC can't play it, I don't need it. (I have 4-5 substitutes for Windows Media Player. I have told my browsers what to use to play various things, but sometimes a site just refuses.... and I don't like it when they tell me what I MUST use!) |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: CarolC Date: 11 Feb 10 - 03:24 PM Looks like I lost track of this one. I'm listening to the Norwegian station right now on a Mac, using Firefox. I believe I installed a Windows media player on this computer a while ago, so maybe that's why it works for me and not for others. The only difference I can see is that there's no button for pausing it in the player on the Mac. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: melodeonboy Date: 11 Feb 10 - 04:50 PM Live 365 is worth a listen, especially if you like cajun, zydeco or bluesgrass. |
Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: CarolC Date: 11 Feb 10 - 06:05 PM I love Live 365 (or I used to), but all of my favorite stations keep disappearing or becoming for VIP members only. There used to be fantastic Italian and Dutch (2 Dutch, one of them maritime) folk music stations, a couple of good Mediterranean folk music stations, and also a pretty good Newfoundland folk station (I say pretty good because they didn't play enough traditional Newfoundland music, and they tended to play a lot of music that sounded almost exactly like modern country music from the US). All of them are now gone. I've given up on Live 365. :-\ |

Subject: RE: Folk Internet Radio Stations From: kmbraun Date: 03 Jan 11 - 10:21 AM I have had really good luck finding good listening at radiotime.com. I first discovered it on my roku box, but then saw that it was available more directly on my computer which has better speakers than my TV anyway. For the first time in my life I feel like I have all the radio I can eat -- the majority of it folk. |
