Subject: RE: Obit: Pat From: GUEST,Lin in Kansas Date: 05 Sep 14 - 08:43 AM This has NOT been a good day. I've been pity-partying because it would have been John's and my 21st anniversary, and then when I opened the 'Cat to post the annual Walnut Valley thread, I see this. As so many of the people above, I never met 'Spaw in person, but his hysterically funny posts were the reason I joined Mudcat years ago, and I caught John laughing out loud at some of them several times. Missing both these guys so much. ( Belated) love to Karen and the kids. Screen too blurry to type now... Lin |
Subject: RE: Obit: Pat "Catspaw49" Patterson - June 20, 2014 From: maeve Date: 05 Sep 14 - 08:49 AM It's good to see you posting, Lin- Spaw's thread makes my heart jump each time I see it reappear. I can imagine the shock when you have suddenly seen it, and when you are already grieving for John. May remembered laughter bring light to a dark day. Thinking of you as you live your life, and in respect for your courage in doing so, Maeve |

I don't check in here too often and again I come and find another great Mudcatter is gone. Spaw was always funny, always irreverent and always kind. He will be sorely missed. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Pat "Catspaw49" Patterson - June 20, 2014 From: An Pluiméir Ceolmhar Date: 13 May 15 - 07:50 PM Drifted away from the Mudcat a few years ago for reasons I won't go into now. But, having created a new thread in the hope of drawing on the vast talent pool that is the Mudcat, I mooched around a bit to see what familiar faces were currently posting. Didn't find too many, but that's in the nature of an organic community like this. George Washington's ax (as you colonials call a hatchet). Then I found a link to this thread, and was greatly saddened, as Spaw was one of those Mudcat institutions whose real-life name I never even guessed, but who was always within a keystroke of contributing to any discussion, musical or frivolous/serious: the people who made Mudcat what it probably still is, even if he didn't think so any more. Si monumentum quaeris, circumspice. RIP |

Subject: RE: Obit: Pat "Catspaw49" Patterson - June 20, 2014 From: GUEST,Roger in BAltimore Date: 14 May 15 - 05:03 PM Well damn!!!... Spaw goes back to before my time. He was often off color, but his heart was always there. I never got to meet him face-to-face, but he was an important soul to me. He wrote once about being concerned about "going over the line" with his humor. I encouraged him to keep it up. Much humor speaks to us when it is loud and brash. But to do humor well, it often pays to cross over some lines to get to the truth. I have missed Mudcat in past year. I do not have a computer at home (and don't want one). And like Spaw's history, I have focussed on some important medical issues that seem resolved now. This is a late and long farewell to Spaw, and I truly will miss him on these pages. Subject: RE: Obit: Pat "Catspaw49" Patterson - June 20, 2014 From: CupOfTea Date: 14 May 15 - 10:05 PM Yanno, you often think you have the time to meet folks. Spaw was just downstate, and I never met 'im, though he was very Ohio-positive in his kind words to me. I always thought 'someday.' This resurrected thread and some recent conversations brought home again how lucky I've been to meet some of the Mudcat luminaries, sung with some, fed and hosted a couple, and even luckier in those I've known and cherished in the folk world in real time. Perhaps there are just too many wonderful people in our orbits for us to have the good fortune to get to know all of them. But even the wee bits of friendly conversation with a great number of fine folks has to add up to a better life, when you tote it all up. Joanne in Cleveland, the other end of the state |
