Subject: RE: Lost Jake Thackray songs in London From: Capo da Monty Date: 11 Feb 17 - 06:03 PM A friend of mine did a lot of research on the life and songs of Jake for his BA Hons degree. It included material from the Beebs archives and previously unpublished work.He apparently let John have a copy. CdM |
Subject: RE: Lost Jake Thackray songs in London From: GUEST,Jamie McC Date: 11 Feb 17 - 12:15 PM The Cenotaph is a cracking song. One of his best, I would say. It's a shame Jake never got to release a proper recording himself. There are. thankfully, a couple of ropey off-air radio recordings which John has been able to use for reference and thanks to him we have a decent recording out there at last. The other tracks are not too shabby either - there really are some gems in there. |
Subject: RE: Lost Jake Thackray songs in London From: Richard Bridge Date: 08 Feb 17 - 12:34 PM Fake Thackray is also playing Croydon Folk Club on Feb 13 - but the club is presumably a little behind the times as it lists Jake, not Fake, on the programme! |
Subject: RE: Lost Jake Thackray songs in London From: DaveRo Date: 08 Feb 17 - 05:57 AM I arranged to receive the CD of 'The LOST Will and Testament of Jake Thackray' at Christmas. As well as well-known, rollicking, songs such as 'The Bull' there are some (to me) surprising, gentler pieces on it. One such is The_Cenotaphe Fake Thackray Gigs |
Subject: RE: Lost Jake Thackray songs in London From: GUEST,JamieMcC Date: 08 Feb 17 - 05:16 AM Indeed he was. And I went there a few times myself on his recommendation (I think I even borrowed your guitar one night LF). As you say, always worth listening to - I hope plenty take the opportunity next Tuesday. |

Subject: Lost Jake Thackray songs in London From: GUEST,Jamie McC Date: 06 Feb 17 - 10:47 AM Any London-based Jake Thackray enthusiasts might like to know that John Watterson (AKA Fake Thackray) will be performing his new show, 'The LOST Will and Testament of Jake Thackray' at the Half Moon in Putney next Tuesday, February 14th at 8pm. John has been researching a biography of Jake and in doing so has unearthed some unrecorded gems - some never heard before and some maybe performed once on Braden's Week or Nationwide and never heard again. He has put together an album of these songs (available from amazon.co.uk) which is being launched on this tour. In addition to the 'new' songs he'll also be doing many better known Thackray classics so it should be a great night. |
