On the local Public Radio Station the other day, I heard part of the lyrics for a cool song. The line that kept repeating was "Ill go to school no more. Guy became a fold singer. I would love to have the words to this. I have contacted the station but no luck yet. Anyone have any ideas?

Stan Rogers' song THE JEANNIE C. has the refrain "I'll go to sea no more." I suppose you might have heard a parody of it.

If my hunch is correct, and this is a parody, it might be very hard to track down. Parodies often have a short shelf-life. Sometimes they are passed around hand to hand, and never recorded. If you really want to know what this was, working through your local station seems like the right way to go. If you get more information, even if it's incomplete, please come back and post it here. Mudcat loves parodies, especially songs about folksingers.

It's more likely the traditional song of that title that has been parodied aka 'Off to Sea Once More'. There are versions in Hugill, Doerflinger, etc and I'd be surprised if there wasn't something in the DT. It's Laws D7, Roud 644. Doesn't help you find the parody mind.

Where are you based, PNB? If Canada it's more likely to be related to Stan's song. If in the States or Britain it's more likely the trad song.

That is "Off to School No More" written and recorded by mudcatter, the late Rick Fielding. It is on his CD Acoustic Workshop on Borealis.

Dang. I should have known that. Rick came from Toronto, and made a lot of friends here at Mudcat. He had a habit of calling from Toronto at just the time you needed to hear from him.

It's a parody of the traditional song, not the Stan Rogers song.

We miss you, Rick.
