There is a related thread about this (Joe? link?), but I thought it would be good to have one appropriately labelled, as the event approaches. The event will be held at the Tranzac Club in Toronto (just off Brunswick and Bloor) Saturday, June 5, starting at 4 p.m. (performances starting at 6) and going on basically until we stop. If you go to www.borealisrecords.com and click on Rick's picture, you will find the first announcement of the many people who will be performing. I will post an updated list sometime this week. Local and some farflung denizens of the Mudcat Cafe will be there to pay tribute to Rick.

I too will be joining in spirit only. However, I will make a point of playing the few CDs I have, both of Rick's and the Pattons so I can be that much closer. And I will sing and play the one song I learned from his first CD, Wild Goose. It isn't one of his songs but he kindly included chords in the liner notes so I could learn it.

Tony called me yesterday and asked if Kathy Reid and myself would do a song - so we'll be on the list too. He tells me it starts at 6:00, so we'll do something that Rick would have really liked somewhere near the start of the program.

I'm not really a performer, and I'm 'performing'.
Part of the reason is that I loved Rick and just want to contribute.
Another part is that, if I don't, a big canvas slip-on shoed foot will descend from heaven or wherever, and kick my ass (in a gentle, loving way). He'd constantly talk to me about my lack of confidence and how I admitted defeat before I'd even try. He'd talk about taking risks. I'm taking one.

I want to be with his other friends and loved ones and try to honor him by learning the most important thing he tried to teach me. This sort of change doesn't happen overnight, and I'm a wee bit pants-wetting terrified. There's one thing I know, though: it's not usually the mistakes people care about. It's what love and energy shine through. I'm going to try to shine.

I'm also hoping about a bazillion people feel like playing along, since I'm gonna bring song sheets w/chords!

I'm also bringing my digital camera.

I remember he and I standing in the back of the gym at the Getaway and just chortling over the fact that you lacked confidence. You are a talent, and you just need to go do it. Besides, I am stage manager the first hour and I will have the hook ready if you start to blow it ............ hahahahaha.

Jeri - as a more or less 'outsider' I've witnessed your performances in at least four venues - more if I count the seperate workshops I've heard you at - not to mention the fiddle sessions I've walked by - and I can honestly say that a confidence problem is the *last* thing I would ever have suspected.

Damn computer lost my last post here and it was long.......I ain't doin' it again. Suffice it to say that this will be a tremendous event and the kind of tribute and memorial that Rick is so worthy of.......Like many others, I'll be there in spirit and another "spirit" came to me in a dream the other night and he'll be there as well.

I don't go for dream analysis and this one was a no brainer as I'd been thinking of both this tribute and all of Rick's many friends so it was no surprise when Little John Cameron showed up in my dream the other night. Both of them shared stories of the other with me and also on the threads here and I'm sure they have a few more together now.

Larry, you have got to put me on the list for a tape copy!
