There was an old air field west of here, now west of where a earthen dam was built. I think it was just a take-off and landing air field, not a blow up the area training field, or the dam might not be as sound as they hoped for.

The old Pocatello Bomber Training Base not only gave this town magnificent runways at the local airport, but UXO 500 pound bombs in the hills and Arco Desert. It's uncommon, but you can be driving out by the Idaho National Laboratory and during heat waves watch one of those pop off in the distance. The roadway the nuclear waste sites have been mostly cleared.

In science news the lab grown and transplanted vaginas may get all the headlines but the Leptoquarks at CERN are real enough to become electrons more often than muons, hinting a new force in the universe by a tri color Boson creating a field we have not expected or predicted like the Higgs. A true book weight is a sort of mild figure 8 with weights on both ends. You use it to weigh down both sides of a book when it's open. My sap looks a lot like that except it's hard leather and only one side has a weight in it.

My sap is only 8.5 inches long, and being flat works well as a book weight.

So, not having CAT5 access to all four of the computers on the first floor I went out to buy a new 5-port switch (hub). It's installed and all is working as it should -- except Pat found another such in her magic supply closet. Oh well, the new one is 1 gig and the old one is 150 mbs. Now if I could just find those two hanks of CAT5 I remember having here in the office.... Mind you, we don't need any more CAT5, open or pinned out.

By the way, if anyone needs padlocks for firearms, let me know (they're actually pretty good locks -- Master, mostly, with cable-type shackles.) They are quite usable for anything you'd use a padlock for.

Fry's Electronics shut down all of it's stores around the US - if you want to shop for the corporeal version of BS, Fry's had it. The most oddball items in its inventory. But they also had a lot of modems and routers along one wall, and I will miss shopping there. For objects with no moving parts it's astonishing how quickly modems and routers die, isn't it? Planned obsolescence, illustrated.

Then, on Sunday last, our in-home network up and died dead. Yup, the router (18 months or so old!) kicked the bucket. So I ordered one from Costco and paid $12.25 for "expedited shipping" with an arrival on the 16th.

Nope. UPS delivered it today. Seems like there were storms in Wyoming that were delaying shipments. Mind you, this was coming from Tacoma....

I'm going to ask for the additional shipping cost back.

I'm reading The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*uck. I should have read it years ago (published 2016). It is particularly interesting in the time of COVID when a lot of people have learned some of this stuff on their own (dressing for comfort, not for style, stop with the makeup, not doing as many things like hair color, fancy nails, etc. - basically, don't give a fuck about fashion) and just living in their bodies and their homes comfortably.

It should have been required reading before I retired, when the new dean came in; maybe a lot of us would have figured out how to dismiss her BS without raising blood pressure over her nonsense. :)

Aaaaand...my revolver lost a part at the unloading table and I had to stop, leave the match, and take it to a gunsmith. It was an easy fix, but working with a tiny screw on an outdoor table sitting on gravel isn't good for one's mechanical abilities, especially when one doesn't have the necessary tools. I wasn't charged anything, as it was a small screwdriver & loctite job (possibly a red one, not blue).
