Subject: Country/Bluegrass Gospel Songbooks From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Jul 00 - 08:13 PM I'm frustrated. For years, I've been looking for a really good bluegrass/country gospel songbook. Seems to me there ought to be something definitive. Dale Rose recommended Heavenly Highway Hymns. It's nice, but most bluegrass hymns I hear aren't in it. Same with the Brumley songbooks - nice, but not comprehensive. Any recommendations? -Joe Offer- |

Some other choir members and I are trying to figure out some Doyle Lawson stuff, but it's not easy. Primarily Acapella ( www.singers.com ) has songbooks to match certain CDs. I picked one up (Haven Quartet)- very nice but not bluegrass. Hoping somebody has a lead... dw |
Subject: RE: Country/Bluegrass Gospel Songbooks From: Barbara Shaw Date: 11 Jul 00 - 08:22 AM I have a book called "Bluegrass Gospel" with 30 songs and music for piano/guitar/four-part vocal which has a lot of the old standards. It's published by Hal Leonard Publishing, 1983. Most of the gospel songs in my own songbook are ones I've collected from CD's, jams, other songbooks (the Blue Book: Rise Up Singing) even hymnals. You'll find a lot of gospel songs within bluegrass songbooks, because of course it's an essential part of bluegrass. Bluegrass festivals - the larger ones - always have vendors with songbooks for sale, and you can probably find unusual ones there. Good luck. It's worth looking! |
