THE BIG RED SONGBOOK, edited and with notes by Archie Green, David Roediger, Franklin Rosemont, and Salvatore Salerno. Chicago: Charles H. Kerr, 2007. 546pp., 250+ IWW songs, lyrics only. A comprehensive collection of the songs from every edition of the LITTLE RED SONGBOOK since its 1909 inception, plus many songs and poems gathered from IWW publications. Illustrated with vintage IWW graphics and photos. Also includes a section on parodies, songwriters' reminiscences, essays by the editors and others, and more. Discography by Adam Machado. Cloth, issued without dust jacket, $36.00; paper edition, $24.00

If a half-dozen or so Mudcatters are interested, CAMSCO can supply it at a substantial discount ($19.20 soft cover /$28.80 hard cover). It's an indispensible reference if you're interested in labor /protest songs. \

Please let me know ASAP if you're interested.

Yes, I'm def. interested, Dick. It would have to be posted to be in the UK if that's OK (just tell me the cost).

Thanks for suggesting this.

Norman

Just got a copy last couple of weeks. A magnificent achievement. Archie Green has been working on this for almost 50 years. An indispensable addition to my collection.

A couple of things--
This book includes ALL the contents of ALL the Little Red and Big Red songbooks published by IWW simce 1909, plus other material, commentary , artwork etc. I won't be stocking this--CAMSCO has neither room nor money to stock books--but I'm assembling a one-time order to be sold at discount.
If you want a copy, please E-mail or PM me (Email: dick@camscomusic.com) and specify hard or soft cover. Believe it or not, this is a one-time offer.
I will ship overseas; I don't yet know what postage would be, inasmuch as I don't know yet what the books weigh. Postal charges will be actual postage plus 50 cents (US) for packaging and such.

Hey Mark, I'll bet Utah would like this if he doesn't already have one.

For Saul and others who might not be familiar with our abbreviations, there's a PM (click) link after Dick's name in his message that will allow you to send him a personal message.
Give Dick your address and credit card information, and he'll do his best to take care of you.
Over the years, Dick has alerted me to some wonderful books, and I've been able to get them from him at a substantial discount.

Thank you, Dick Greenhaus !

Our copy arrived Monday, and it is a truly great work. So far, I've only had time to read Archie Green's preface and Utah Phillips' Afterword as well as perusing the contents, but am looking forward to soaking a lot more of it in as time allows.

And as a bonus, I got Joe Offer's invoice packed with this copy. Let me know if I should mailit to you Joe - Tom hall

Sorry it's taken so long, but I only received my copies last week. The IWW, as many corporations have found, can be a nuisance to do business with. The do have some great songs, though. And the book is even better than I had anticipated.

As I said, I try not to stock books--they take up too much space and capital. Normally I order them in when there's a known demand--and I have to meet minimum order sizes to get a discount.
Having said this, and recognizing that the book is IMO a very important one, if some other folks are interested, I'll see what I can do.

I am erratic with my reading. Hence I did not read this book right away. Reading it now, though. And it is fascinating! Labor struggles, politics, the folk process, insights into the human condition, and more.

A very late, but hardy "Thank you!" Dick. You are missed. And you left a lot of rich contributions!

Saul
