Subject: RE: OLD SONGS FEST From: GUEST,tjarm@earthlink.net Date: 09-Apr-01 - 05:59 PM I am looking for the words to the old song She'll be coming aroune the mountain, can anyone help me out and let me know where I may obtain the words. Thank you Teddy Subject: RE: OLD SONGS FEST From: mousethief Date: 09-Apr-01 - 06:11 PM This song is one of those with 1,000 verses, which are picked from in a mix-and-match fashion by the performer. The obligatory first verse is: She'll be comin' 'round the mountain when she comes(2x) She'll be comin' 'round the mountain(2x) She'll be comin' 'round the mountain when she comes And then additional verses, built in the same fashion, include: We will all go out to meet her when she comes She'll be drivin' six white horses when she comes We will all have chicken and dumplin's when she comes I will have to sleep with Grandma when she comes She will wear her red pajamas when she comes --=----- Note also that sometimes when it's done, there is a short word or phrase that is spoken (not sung) at the end of every long line (the first 2 and the last one of the 5-line verse). For example, with "we will all go out to meet her" you say, "Hi, Babe!" and with "We will all have chicken and dumplin's" it's "Yum, yum!" Hope this helps a little. Why isn't this in the digitrad? Alex Subject: Lyr R OLD SONGS FEST From: Burke Date: 09-Apr-01 - 06:16 PM Teddy, go to the top of the page & click on "C" below the lyrics search. DT has Coming 'round the mountain and Comin' Round the Mountain. I've asked Joeclone to move this to it's own thread because it's kind of lost here. Subject: RE: OLD SONGS FEST From: mousethief Date: 09-Apr-01 - 06:29 PM The one in the Digitrad as "COMIN' 'ROUND THE MOUNTAIN" is completely unrelated to the one I posted above. The search is really tetchy about things like apostrophes. I looked for Comin Round the Mountain and it found ZILCH because it wanted the apostrophes. Alex Subject: RE: OLD SONGS FEST From: Burke Date: 09-Apr-01 - 06:51 PM Mousethief, the one you posted is under Coming 'Round the Mountain. Ya just nehvah can tell where those contractions or alternate spellins 'ill be. I found it from the browse list instead a the search. You did use some additional verses, though. I would'ave used We'll, I'll & she'll in a couple of your verses. :-)

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain From: Burke Date: 09 Apr 01 - 06:56 PM Thanks Jeri. Sorry I made it harder by adding on that last one without refreshing first. S'ok Burke - just a small copy & paste, and everything's fine. --JC |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain From: Chicken Charlie Date: 09 Apr 01 - 07:53 PM Teddy-- Before the "We'll all have chicken & dumplings" verse should come, "We will kill the old red rooster." Somebody talked about ad-lib lines; I recently heard the line "She'll be drivin' six white horses when she comes" followed each time by "Whoa, Buck!" That just sort of emerged from the audience, from a young lady whose father always did that. If you have a partner, "When the Saints Go Marching In" can be made to work as a countermelody. Luck, C.C. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain From: mousethief Date: 10 Apr 01 - 01:28 PM Chicken Charlie, that's the way I first heard it too, with "whoa buck" in there. Maybe the young lady's father heard it from a similar source as my grandmother (who taught me the song). Alex |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain From: Micca Date: 10 Apr 01 - 06:08 PM another song, unfortunately, that the obscene words intrude into, and therefore I am forbidden to sing... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain From: Burke Date: 10 Apr 01 - 06:31 PM I know the phrase stuff as well. Don't you also repeat the ad'libs in reverse order at the end of each verse? I'm trying to remember what they all are:
She'll be comin'... "?" (it might have been Toot, toot)

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain From: Chicken Charlie Date: 10 Apr 01 - 06:41 PM Alex--Aren't grandmothers great? Also, this sort of deja vu happens to me all the time, but usually in reading. Go 50 years without knowing something and then three books in a row that you pick up have it in them. Now I'm doing that with music. I learned "Get Up Napoleon" a couple years ago, & then played it in public, & another performer said it was verbatim the way his grandmother taught it to him. You only do that in folk, I guess. Burke--Too much work for me, but I'll pass the concept on to a friend who will like it. C.C. |
