Wow. I am humbled! I guess I need to check Mudcat more often I didn't see this thread 'til just now - and I am a bit lost for words. Thank you all very much - and I am very pleased that you have enjoyed the record.

And another thing about Jed. He is one damn fine lookin' human being!

I will bet I have sold 30 copies of this CD. Not to hard, really. Just play it for them. In my band, we fight over who gets to sing his songs. Jeri (Hi lovey!) hit it on the head when she comments on his imagery. And he does some of the damndest things with chord progressions. But it works, in fact I am going to try some of these.

Quit screwing around and buy this one.

my son, who THOUGHT he only liked sea shanties, is really taken by "Streets of Fall River" and has sings several of the songs from it already....those who were at the Getaway heard Jed play a LOT, and realized how well he can do a wide variety of stuff.

(We just saw one couple, David (the harp player) and Lucy (guitar & fiddle) who confess they stayed up with Jed and a couple others till 5AM Sunday...and really enjoyed the marathon pickin'!)

Good stuff, ain't it Kim? Got mine from Jed about a year ago, and it is on its third life. First played mercilessly at home, then at work, and now that work has changed, it's gone to live a happy life being played to bits all across the northwest. Couldn't possibly pick a favourite song, they are all wonderful. Best of luck, Jed.

I've had this CD for a few weeks, and it's a rare occasion when it's not in my car CD player. It's not there now. I loaned it to Bat Goddess as a teaser. She gave it back on Fri night, and I had it in my hand for about a minute and a half. Then I told Dave he'd like it. Dave says "I never heard of that guy. Can I borrow it?" (Those last two sentances would ONLY come from a folkie!) So now he's got it, and I'll work on the guilt thing: "Buy it, Dave. Poor musician so hard up he had to move to Texas. Give him a break for crying out loud!"

I love this CD, and I would love it even if Jed weren't a Mudcatter; even if I hadn't met him. The songs are so lovingly crafted, so strong in imagery and simple at the same time, they continue to blow me away. The tunes are beautiful, haunting or driving, and get stuck in my head, but I'm quite happy to have them there.

His voice is sort of Don Henley meets Jackson Browne, meets...er - the voice is Jed's. Frankly, after this one, I'll buy any CD he ever puts out. Pickin' ain't bad, neither.

Gawd I'll be glad when this move is over and we get to log in again.......

We have had a couple of threads on Jed's wonderful CD, but unlike "Songcatcher".....it deserves them. I have been listening to it for about a year a now and I am always struck at what an excellent piece of work it really is. I don't know whether it's still on, but a pilot TV series is using it for part of the soundtrack. If we were up and running fully I'd link it for you.

I don't know how we can have people around here with all the talent in the world like Jed and Rick and many others who haven't "hit" with somebody..........but the folk world is small I guess and you don't do it for the money. Maybe that's why they are so good.......You can't beat love and passion for a motivation. Jed's original songs are so well written and "within the tradition" that those who don't know would often assume they are much older. Great stuff.

Sinsull, I too like Jeff's rendition of "Maggie" and not to take anything away from Jed at all, but there is another rendition that simply brings me to tears everytime I listen to it. Maybe it's the man singing it and his wonderful marriage, but if you haven't heard Sandy Paton do this one, you need to!!! Again, that takes nothing away from Jed.

I've said it before on other threads, but again, GREAT JOB JED!!!

Ditto - don't miss this one. Besides great picking and lyrics, Jed does the most romantic "When You And I Were Young, Maggie" I have ever heard.
Christmas is coming - "Streets Of Fall River" would make a wonderful gift.

Well, dangit, I can't get into the membership page to reset my cookie. Anyway... I just got my copy of Jed's CD and I want to tell everyone how FABULOUS it is! There is some really fine singin and pickin and songwritin on this recording. So all y'all what don't have it, you need to get you one. Or two, even. :-)
