(Though I think they still sometimes *do* like it, secretly & shamefacedly. They just get sick of it, y'see.) Plus, dat's a damn funny Reformed Wild Rover satire up there. T.S. said it was "with love and affection to and for all parties." I'm fer the All-Parties Coalition. Party on, maaaan. / But saaay, Kieran the bbp: isn't yer name sort-of redundantly repetitious, there? :)

Look I dont like some of your music so dont get on your high horse because some people prefer to listen and sing the music they love (and in most cases its the music that makes them feel good about themselves).

Think of it like food. Some of you may like to try fresh monkey brains from the skull and sheeps testicles but a lot of people are very happy with their pie and chips.

I kind of think that you got the wrong impression of Whitby. Perhaps there was one pub where that happened and not all of the time in there either.

The sessions in ALL of the pubs were eclectic, vibrant and (apart from the one really bad melodian player -that I saw/heard- who insisted on playing so loud that no one else had a chance to do anything and by god he was bad and one bodrhan payer who thought he was great, was very drunk and shouted and played inconsistantly on the off beat) prety damm good.

In fact I didn't see that many guitar thrashers at all mmmmm did i spend the week with my eyes closed?

If people choose to repeat ad-nauseum a tiny number of songs from what was a large and varied repertoire then that's their loss.

Hell *everybody's* fair game. Ya wanna make sumpthin' outta it , Boyo ?

I guess my mixed feelings on Irish *thrashers* can be summed up in one personality; Bob Geldorph and his "Boomtown Rats". What he was able to acheive with his "Live Aid" concert concept was historic and to be looked upon with as a reminder of what *the music* can acheive.

Yet I still wouldn't subject myself *willingly* to the music of the *thrash rock* of "Boomtown Rats". Post-Clash punk-strutting was all it was and will ever be.

Go figure.

Not having visited myself, I have recently gained the impression from recent threads that the Whitby festval pubs are full, with one exception of guitar bashing folk, thrashing out Dubliner's songs and that this is a problem.

I am reminded of a old TV sketch where World War 2 veterans from opposite met up on holiday and after having a few problems, decide that they all 'hated the Swiss' - for being, 'bloody neutrals'.

Is it OK then for folkies to decide that these 'Wild Rovers' and 'Leavers of Liverpool' are now fair game?
