It's a brilliantly written parody.
I once saw an equally brilliant treatise about the optimal time for the Saulus/Paulus transition, optimising the weighted sum of earthly and heavenly pleasures in terms of economic decision theories.

Merciful f**king Kee-Rist!!! I have seldom come across anything that was as constipated an attempt to sound "spiritual" as that. When I encounter books that resemble this example you have provide the link to, my eyes glaze over and I put them down (the books, I mean) after a page or two and find something better to read.

Sorry, Pied, you have just been looking at the WRONG New Age literature! :-)

You remind me of someone who rebuts all religion by describing a tent revival meeting of hysterical white-robed acolytes writhing around on the ground clutching rattlesnakes and babbling in tongues.

It is funny, though. Sort of. But it's awfully tedious too.

I was reminded of Sokol's hoax. But on the the other hand...

I recently have met a person who was talking this way and was very serious about it. He has found how the nature of DNA and the unification of relativity theory and quantum theory can be explained by a simple law from monocular vision, namely that you see depth if you change your point of view. From that follows immediately that the inside of something is the outside of some other thing. The inside of the world around us is the outside of ourselves and therefore the inside of ourselves must be the outside of the universe and therefore each cell nucleus has the whole universe inside it. And it follows that there are only two dimensions in our world, one direction and time which lead to the illusion of a threedimensional space. If you take the unit vectors for one direction and the time and look at them from a different position you have the spin added which gives you the unified world theory.

She's serious it seems.

Her web biography:
I was born in Adelaide, South Australia, 1961, married with a husband who unwillingly
has had his own spirit encounters. My sister and I share a psychic connection normally
found in twins - we feel each others pain and emotions.
My brothers suicide altered our lives, and began our search for the afterlife.
My sister and I have attained a major portion of our information through Healing
-a technique where we scan the body and tell the patient their ailments, giving 1st proof
of our bodies energy field which corresponded to Doctors reports and scans. This
allows us to review past life detail with corresponding historical correlation,
house clearings with corresponding correlation of the entities, and dream review that
parallels to the patient's past history of emotional trauma to exact life detail.

The best part of our revelations has been our involvement with our patients whose lives
we assisted to turn into positive outcomes. My greatest delight is to share our spirit info
with whoever is willing to listen. Like many others in the world I wanted to understand
creational outcomes and reality to assist our World to align to natural technology that
                  once existed in our past.

A list of articles by her

Sometimes reality is weirder than a parody.

Wolfgang:

As a healer; I will state categoricaly that healers have NO business making diagnoses, recommending medications, etc.

This allows us to review past life detail with corresponding historical correlation,

I accept reincarnation; but do not see how one would obtain that information by scanning the energy field around a person.

The traditional method is via hypnotic regression; but the hypnotist MUST be very specific in the questions.

There is a vast difference between these questions.

1. Would you tell me about a previous life?
2. Would you tell me about your previous life?

The subconscious mind tries to be helpful, and with question #1; it would get information about the first previous life that appeals to the subconscious mind. (This is why there are 50+ people walking around believing they were Cleopatra in a previous life.

house clearings with corresponding correlation of the entities, and dream review that

I have done MANY house blessings or exorcisms in my life. But then humanity world wide have discovered methods to cleanse places and people of evil and negative entities.

Shinto religion uses salt, Catholics use the rite of exorcism, or holy water, the mid east used frankinsece, Native American Indians used white sage or sage and cedar, In China, and Feng shui practitioners use assorted techniques (curving driveways, bagua mirrors, Hawaiians used salt or salt water sprinkled with a ti leaf, the protestant method is to read Matthew 18: 15-20 aloud and command the entities to go, etc, and many others.

Belongs over on the Science and New Age: Bridging the chasm thread, eh?

I hear what you're saying, brothers and sisters, and I also understand that she is reaching out, in the best of her capacity at the time, and that in her being her intentions are good. I ask you to focus on the positive content of her message, not the style, as everyone of us perceives through a different set of preconceptions. May we all focus on the oneness that unites us, rather than the jargon that divides us.

Stilly, I only hope you live to see the day when scientific advancements into this field leave you eating your words here. Some of us - not only the usual new-age "flakes" but some of the worlds finest thinkers - MD's, internists, PhD's and other scientific researchers - do know first-hand that traditional Eastern philosophy / medical principles regarding vital life-force energy (chi or mana)are valid; that they do have practical, beneficial and most promising applications in the field of medicine and public health; and that there must be an as-yet undiscovered scientific explanation for this.

There are many reliable-looking scientific studies into energetic healing underway right now at the world's finest universities, hospitals and medical clinics. If anyone is interested in knowing more, please check the thread that Stilly linked to here for more information about a few of them, as well as Wolgang's expert advice about how to assess them (and thanks again for your help with that, Wolfgang).

In light of these facts, that vital and badly-needed "scientific explanation" may come a lot sooner than anyone expects. So whatever "side" you find yourself rooting for at this time, it would probably be wisest to make sure your comments are at least respectful, even if you can't manage to make them "sweet". That way it'll be much more pleasant to eat them if and when the time comes.

This brings up again the problem I have mentioned several times about the endless plasticity of thought -- that it can drum up any perception called for, if it is so inclined. For example, it is possible in looking at the "energy field" to see and interpret mental image pictures embedded around a person's body and tell them -- sometimes to their great surprise -- about some trauma or other they are holding on to. Not the best approach of therapy for two reasons.

First, they don't need to be told what they are actually holding on -- what they need is to discover it for themselves.

Secondly, it is perfectly easy to drum up a false picture of what they are holding on to, and tell them about that, much to the detriment of the subject who has now been handed a false past to deal with in addition to his actual experiential sequence.

In an adversarial approach, nothing can be achieved. Its only through mutual understanding and listening that people can hear each other. Oppositional behaviour promotes division, empathy facilitates connection.

Many people have found that crocheting, a humble and repetitive craft, is a path to liberation if combined with the right mantras. Only those who can truly crochet in the moemnt will ever experience this.

Amos, I agree with everything you've said here. It's very difficult for newbies (and even veterans) to energy work to discern the differences between their own energy / subconscious "issues" and that of their client; to give accurate interpretations of whatever it is they are "seeing" or "feeling"; and TO REFRAIN FROM MAKING DIAGNOSES THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO MAKE, even if they are 100% sure the diagnosis is correct.

This last point is most important. Healers and psychic "readers" are NOT qualified to make diagnoses - unless of course they are also medical doctors. If they are not MD's, giving a client any kind of medical "diagnosis" is not only unethical but dangerous.

I love rainbows too, Daffy, both physically and symbolically - so here's a couple more "rainbowisms" to help "bridge that chasm" between Science and the (so-called) "New Age";

Karla's problem reminds me of a rainbow. A rainbow could be perceived as bands of VERY different colored light presented side by side, in harmony, to form a unified whole - or it could be perceived as those same bands of very different colored light side by side in raging conflict, forced by the uncaring hand of nature to present together as a unified whole.

- yours truly, on the other thread Stilly linked to.

We have not the reverent feeling for the rainbow that the savage has, because we know how it is made. We have lost as much as we gained by prying into that matter.
(A Tramp Abroad)

One can enjoy a rainbow without necessarily forgetting the forces that made it.

well...... one could theorize about the significance of the caduceus with the practice of medicine and the similarity of the symbol of the rod and two intertwined snakes to the double helix of DNA too. Then again Hermes the Messenger was also the god of thieves. BG..... Hmmm....and then there's that double helix of the barley twist associated with the Celts.......come to think of it, knitting and crochetting can get the one's mind making more connections than one sometimes does with the stitches in one's hand. I'm not holding my breath, Stilly - but I AM seriously considering going back to university and applying my ever-growing first-hand knowledge of / abilities in energetic healing techniques to serious and practical scientific investigation. In that case, you just may reading about my work in scientific journals before this earth-walk is over.

And if that happens, it will be thanks to the inspiration and motivation of discussions like these - right here on the Mudcat! :-)

I hold many of them in high reguard; it's just the New Age appropriation of all and sundry that are lumped together into a touchy-feely potpourri that I find objectionable. And the number of gullible people who hitch their wagons to that pseudo-philosophical juggernaut.

I agree wholeheartedly. That's why achieving scientific
explanations/validations of energetic healing techniques is so important. It would make all the misinformation and skepticism a thing of the past. And it would put all the bogus theories, "traditions", "new-age" quacks and charlatans out of business.

And look who's talking out of the other side of her mouth about making words "sweet." What a short memory you have, daylia.

We've had our differences, Stilly. Please notice the past tense - let's keep it that way ok? On-line battling and exchanging insults accomplishes nothing of value that I can see, except entertaining readers who enjoy these squabbles vicariously. That kind of behavior diverts attention from the (important!) topic at hand, while making both of us look petty and foolish.

Neither of us are fools - and I know we both deserve better.

Amos, your joy is infected. you have the simple humour of the child, obviously you're in touch with your inner child, as many of us strive to be. Life is a song, and we are just the tune. But what is our tune? are we the mellow wafting of a call to prayer? are we the sound of bagpipes floating across the hills? or are we...

banjo music?

we all sing to the one song, whether we know it or not.

Thanks for the link, Amos - I've bookmarked the site.

And FWIW, I agree with the Australian new-age author's assessment of her twin's "psychic" connection. I have identical twin sons, and for the first 12 years of their lives they were utterly inseparable. They seemed to know exactly what the other was thinking, feel exactly what the other was feeling. For example, I'd be scolding one outside in the yard for some misdoing - I'd come back inside and the other one would be sitting there crying ("What did he do wrong? Why are you so MEEAAN??)

They even coined their own language - until they were about 4, they "spoke" mostly in little noises, grunts and squeals that no-one else could understand.

I'd prefer to call this an "empathic" rather than a "psychic" connection, though. By the time they hit the adolescent "identity crisis" stage, they really couldn't stand each other any more, and did nothing but slug it out, trying to "separate" from each other as much as possible I guess.

At 22, they still haven't quite worked it out yet. *sigh* Maybe someday.

Thanks for listening,

daylia

daylia, you are a piece of work. You get nasty all over the place on several years worth of other threads, establish a track record of flying off the handle, then suddenly act as if you have some moral high ground from which to lecture others. I see you attempting to diminish the impact of your previous rudeness by trying to push me, hands clasped together, in front of you on your newfound path of civility.

Your method of debate frequently leads to arguments and I don't expect your leopard to change her spots. Just watch your own behavior and let others manage for themselves.

Oh how we cling to our emotional hurts...when once we have grown accustomed to them... :-)

Any argument can be turned into a positive dialogue. All it takes is a willingness to change one's attitude. Anyone is capable of doing that any time they want to.

But you know what usually happens? "No! I didn't like you yesterday, and I am NEVER going to like you. You're bad! Bad! Bad! I hate you! You'll always be bad! You hurt my feelings and you are now among the eternally condemned! I hope you get devoured by raging iguanas! Bad! Bad!"

Ha! What a waste of good potential it is, wallowing in these toxic emotions...but people seem to love it.

Well, y'know, I looked at this thread and here's what I thought. There are so many great spiritual books I could be reading right now...what the heck am I doing reading this stuff on Mudcat? Why am I here at all? I must be an idiot with no life. :-) Hmmm. I should stop right now. I should turn off this stupid computer and read one of those great so-called "New Age" books. Gosh. Let's see. There's the one about Qi Gong, that's good. It's not really New Age exactly. There's one here called "Seat of the Soul". My guess is that daylia and Stilly RS would BOTH like it. I wonder?

Why am I still here? Why????? Gabba, gabba, gabba, goo, goo...

Little Hawk, there's also the saying "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." I find it doesn't pay to take daylia at her word as far as getting along. It only works as long as she gets her way, and it takes very little for her to start the nonsense again. As we can see already on this thread.

Two Bears, you and daylia should get together.

Together you'd equal one wit.

Little Hawk, if you haven't turned off your computer yet, go find a copy of The Spell of the Sensuous: Perception and Language in a More-Than-Human World. This is as close as my reading has probably come to some of the stuff mentioned in these threads. It came out of one of my environmental philosophy classes.

Little Hawk, "Seat of the Soul" is one of my favourite books of all time. I liked it so much, and I thought 'What's not to like?', so I lent it to a friend of mine, thinking I was doing something nice for him, and I was surprised to find that he not only didn't like it - it frightened him! He gave it back and said he didn't want to see it again. It certainly jolted me into remembering that we are not all in the same place on the path!

I first saw Gary Zukav on Oprah, and was impressed by his calm manner and the love shining through. It made me happy just listening to him.

It probably isn't polite to keep taking pokes at you two, but you stick you chins out there just asking for it. I never was good at resisting temptation like that. It runs in the family.

All manner of things seem to "run in the family" - hair color, musical talent, as well as all manner of violent behavior. Including verbal violence

I do like these principles of "Verbal Aikido":

Speech-attacks, like any other form of aggressive behavior, imply both a victim and a perpetrator. Philosophically speaking, there is little difference between this form of hostile word-use and a physical attack. Aikido, in the larger sense, concerns itself with identification and neutralization of both these types of aggression.

While practicing Aikido on the mat, we learn to recognize and harmonize with an opponent's attack in such a way as to avoid any harm to ourselves, and wherever possible, to avoid injuring the attacker. Aikido is, in this way, a self-defense which implies neither victory nor defeat. the terms "victory" and "defeat" belong to the field of competition and are operative where conflict of interest exists.

Aikido does not deal with reality in a mutually exclusive, dualistic manner. To define Aikido as "the art of no-defeat" is not a mere semantic game. We, as speakers of the English language and, consequently, children of Aristotelian thought, are accustomed to viewing the phenomenal world in terms of polar opposites, ie., "good-evil," "plus-minus," "off-on," etc. The power of this procedural mode has been dramatically demonstrated by man's vast attainments in the fields of science and technology which are based on the scientific method.

Nonetheless, there are many areas in which this method of perceiving reality is inappropriate, inefficient, and tension-producing. there are aspects of interpersonal relationships, for example, where viewing things in a binary, "either-or" fashion can defeat communication and perpetuate conflict.

Sounds so familiar   *sigh*

hi guys

as this thread was initially commenting on the convoluted jargon of some new age speak, i came in as Daffy Dill ( a pretty daffy name, i thought) with a bit of verbage about Crocheting for Consciousness, empathy, brothers and sisters and rainbows.. i was surprised that people didnt twig that it was parody, but i guess its a mark of how thoughtful and non judgemental some of you are towards people here. of course, it took me years of hard work to pick up this jargon myself at various workshops, therapy groups and festivals, and self help books.

as there's another thread right now about members posing as guests, and as SRS has identified MMario as Daffy, I thought I'd better clarify - mea culpa. sorry MMario and best wishes to you all!

freda, it was clear that the daffy character was a role that someone was playing, and you threw in a good red herring with the mention of crochet! The posts were from someone familiar with the Mudcat venue. Cute!

daylia, like I said, you're piece of work. If the wordplay gets to be too much just baffle with BS if you can't think of a quick comeback. Just because someone doesn't like your manner of fuzzy logic and discourse doesn't make them an axe murderer.

Since my DSL is apparently out for a while for repairs, I am on dialup this evening. I'll leave the rest of you to duke it out, it takes too long for pages to load to keep fooling with this nonsense. Have a good weekend, all!
