Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gillian Welch 'my morphine' From: number 6 Date: 05 Jan 05 - 07:13 PM Good to hear another person that appreciates her. I feel she is one of the best artists I've heard in a long time. I haven't seen her live except on Austin City Limits but am keepin an eye on her touring schedule here in Eastern Canada or N.E. States. Have you heard 'No one Knows my Name' or 'Hickory Wind'? Yeah, that slow tempo! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gillian Welch 'my morphine' From: akenaton Date: 05 Jan 05 - 08:20 PM Im most surprised that the duo are not more popular in the States. They have a really authentic sound, old time ---Carter family, but nobody here seems to rate them. I first saw them on a one hour BBCtv special, in was one of these moments when you discover something wonderful, I was glued to the show from beginning to end. Gillians voice is fine, but to me David Rawlings harmonies and guitar are the icing. Watching Rawlings perform , you get the impression his guitar is part of his body, complete with sinews and nerves, and their commitment to the music is obvious. Its full of joy and pain. Ill try to get a listen to the two songs you mention and give you my thoughts on them. Good to talk to you Ake |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gillian Welch 'my morphine' From: number 6 Date: 05 Jan 05 - 09:19 PM It sounds you had the same reaction I did when I first saw them. They both delivered straight from the heart. Knocked me out. It's not too often you see that. Yeah, Rawlings plays that old Epiphone as if is part of his soul! Good talkin to you ... *6* |
